saint lard Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Ok,it's not an overly important match but i'm not particulaly impressed it is not on the tellybox. Obviously this was down to Setanta going bust, and due to the fact that it is an England away game it cannot be picked up by any other network,it just seems a rediculous state of affairs when unless you have access to webworld you can't watch your national team. I hope it isn't the thin end of the wedge,it appears most newspaper sites are offering it at £4.99 today and £11.99 on matchday. I suppose someone had to make some money out of it,that includes the company that is streaming it live.
Micky Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 It's an England match - should be on a free to air channel in my opinion.

The bit in bold is untrue. The rights could have been picked up by any of the major broadcasters, but none of them were willing to pay the asking price because it was expected that this game would be a dead rubber for England by the time the game came around - an expectation that proved to be right. The company who have bought the rights, Perform, already have plenty of business in the UK as they (badly) run the vast majority (if not all) of the Football League official club websites. Apparently they're going to need 300,000 subscribers to break even on this - I'll be surprised if they get 300. Bet365 are streaming it for free for any customer who has money in their account, and there are countless other sites that will be showing it for free (most will probably be doing so illegally, so I'm not going to name any of them).
Thedelldays Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 In this strange occaisuon. The FA should have given the game to the BBC or ITV for a small nominal fee.

If so then i stand corrected,i was just repeating what they stated on Talksport, mind you they are not the most reliable of sources it must be said. According to this however it was to do with the Ukranian broadcasters and that it is a qualifying away match which complicates the issue....... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/8286886.stm Edited 5 October, 2009 by saint lard

percy windham Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Odeon Leisure World are also showing it, 8 quid there i think, not that ill bother with it

ITV (X-Factor) and the BBC (Strictly Come Dancing) don't want to upset their viewing millions or their saturday night live telly schedules I reckon. Both awful programmes IMHO - and I'd rather one of them did show the footy - but you know how all the 'Angry of Leeds' or 'Disgusted of Bristol' codgers would write in in their thousands should either of them suddenly decide to change things & show the footbal match.

As my kids and missus love X-Factor they could have had the game on and still kept X-factor in the 8pm time slot. I was looking forward to going to the pubs with my mates to watch it.
Rattlehead Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 it just seems a rediculous state of affairs when unless you have access to webworld you can't watch your national team. It's the future, I suggest you get used to it. Even if it were free, I wouldn't be watching those arrogant c*nts anyway. England bores the sh*te out of me these days.

I would watch it if I thought anyone could actually sing - but I got home from the Gillingham game on saturday (had a couple of sherberts afterwards) and I was just in time to see the Irish bloke review the 'groups'. Jeeeeeez - what a crock of sh1te! Awful - totally awful. And the rest of the show was full of talentless wannabe's by the sound of it coming from my living room. The strictly-bollicky-dancing crap is banned in my house thank f*@k...

Rattlehead Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 You are, of course, assuming that I am English.
Pat from Poole Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 You are, of course, assuming that I am English. Oh, is it a game of Guess Rattlehead's Nationality? I'll go for Uzbekistan.

St.Jeweller Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 you pay for sky sports, you've payed for setanta and now they want you to fork out again for your national side.....i think it's disgusting that BBC/ITV aren't interested in a world cup qualifier when the boys are flying at the top of the group.Anyone would think this was just some poxy friendley or something.
Baj Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Ill be watching it, smugly, on TV and not via the internet.
saint_stevo Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Ill be watching it, smugly, on TV and not via the internet. Mr foreign channel picking up satellite dish....i presume

Could imagine SC's face if four nippers audition number was battery by Metallica!

dubai_phil Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Do England games still appear on tv somewhere in the world then? We have Showtime here They had the PL & CCC for US$80 per month. Then they dumped the CCC and got the SPL. They had UEFA cup last year, no idea where that and the CCC has gone. We had Orbit which had sweet FA with a watered down no footie ESPN but now we have to pay extra on Showtime because they merged with Orbit to give 75 premium channels of 3 year old US TV & Litte league Ice Hockey & Baseball Then we had ART who are $80 per month and have the Champions League & FA Cup only but they used to have the PL but no English Language TV series, just some old movies. They had SOME world cup qualifiers and had the WC in Germany so, nope we didn't watch that as you had to take out a one year subscription - $960 something We used to have the "little Indian Chappie" who connected your decoder to the internet so you could watch everything for free including the South African Channels DST, who had PL, CCC and ENGLAND games. But then the Telco regulatory authorities added every web site with the unscrambled links to their list of banned sites because they also allowed you to access all the "adult" channels on Hotbird. Of course THAT happened just after those sites started charging you 50 quid a year for the subscription. You could use a proxy by-pass but the internet here is then so slow that you cannot get a signal fast enough to retune the whatever it is thingy on your decoder. So, you guys have NO idea how lucky you are to have a Monopoly. We've got about 4 or 5 satellites covering this area and STILL nothing on telly unless you want to watch the PL or are able to waste 200 quid a month Unless of course we go down the pub, but at the current exchange rate of just under 6 quid a pint...... I'll simply try and use the "set up an IP address in blighty" trick and listen on I-Player 5 live, failing that Google always works if you like getting swamped by viruses from the streamed video sites in China
skintsaint Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Im going to see Justin and maybe watch it on his TV.
Baj Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 England game currently scheduled to show on: HRT2 Polsat futbol Sportklub Croatia SuperSport2 TRK Futbol TRK Ukraine TRT1 TV2 Sport (Denmark) Viasat Football (Norway) Viasat Sport (Baltic) Not sure if you can pick up any of those in Dubai, possibly TRT1?
Hatch Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Im going to see Justin and maybe watch it on his TV. I might see you there
bungle Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Pah, it's FA Cup 3rd Round qualifying day. I'm off to Bishop's Cleeve v Bath City.
Rattlehead Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 Oh, is it a game of Guess Rattlehead's Nationality? I'll go for Uzbekistan. You know me though Pat! Obviously you can forget about the White Wolves winning the World Cup, so no interest there. Although the UK granted asylum many years ago now, I don't much like the England football team these days. Only Walcott and Capello in the set up really, and Bridge if he ever plays again.

Depends which platform they are on, Hotbird & Nilesat we get decent signals, Asiasat is not good and then there is the one that carries DST which I forget the name of right now. You guys have Astra for Sky I think, but think you can get Hotbird as I saw ART in some pubs when they had the TV rights to the PL
Draino76 Posted 6 October, 2009 Posted 6 October, 2009 The internet only broadcasting of this game is a potential shot in the foot for the broadcasters, especially Sky. Several people have asked how they can watch this game over the internet for free, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to find the answer. I'm thinking about the amount of people in England watching their first ever bit of P2P football over the net will be quite significant. With streams available like this; why pay for skysports?

The only ones the we can't are narrow band, which accounts for a couple of scandanavian ones etc, which leaves us with about 5,500 channels. Ive not checked which sats are broadcasting to you.
sunrise Posted 7 October, 2009 Posted 7 October, 2009 Im going to see Justin and maybe watch it on his TV. If I'm not working, I may visit Justin too.....
Minsk Posted 8 October, 2009 Posted 8 October, 2009 I shall take a walk up to my local sports bar and hope they will dedicate at least a couple of screens to the England match (via a Ukrainian channel). However, as the Belarus game is on terestrial TV at that time, I think they will split the screens between Belarus and Russia Vs Germany (which Russia have to win to keep their automatic qualification hopes alive). I shall definitely be in said sports bar on Wednesday though, for a match that will certainly be shown, proudly wearing my England shirt of course!!!
tombletomble Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 I think that a lot of people are going to Justin's tonight
warsash saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 I think that a lot of people are going to Justin's tonight Hope he's got plently of rooms for people to kip in readiness for the game tomorrow

saints_is_the_south Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 My local - The Langley Tavern - have got it on the TV as they've managed to link their PC up to the TV's.
marc_saint Posted 9 October, 2009 Posted 9 October, 2009 My local is showing the game via one of the foreign channels. (The always show live premier games on a saturday afternoon) They're also doing a hog roast from 4! :-)
