Thedelldays Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 imo, right now Kelvin trottman Jaidi Harding Morgan Hammond lambert Lallana would look comfortable in most CCC teams not bad really and a good core to work with...
South City Si Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Murty maybe too if he doesn't get regularly injured. When on form Saga as well.
S-Clarke Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 I'm not sure that Trotman is yet - hopefully after a full season here he can be a good CCC player though. Other than that - we do have a core of good championship players, and players with the potential to be good championship players (i.e lambert) If you add someone like Lita alongisde lambo, someone like Elliot Ward alongside Jaidi - then this could be a top half challenging championship team IMO. That's what pard's has done - built a core of a team of players who can go up a level, you don't want to get prompted and have to replace the entire team again.
NickG Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Saga just doesn't find form enough. Form /consistency is an important quality in a player - we can't wait for ever for half a dozen decent games. He is way way behind Lambert and Lallana (and probably Papa now). Tony Adams didn't have many great games but the fact that he never had a poor one made him a great player.

Exactly, that's what we didn't have last year, or the years before tbf. All good teams are built from the back and have good, strong, powerful, aggressive players right through their spine. If we get the blend around them right (i.e the attackers) then we'll win most games. That's been our problem so far, getting the right blend...but on yesterdays form and the attacking performance bristol rovers, we have that sorted out.

saints_is_the_south Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Mellis, with a full season of first team football behind him could also be a decent CCC player imo.
Fan The Flames Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 I certainly think Trottman is good enough and I really like what I've seen of Hammond.
Evil Monkey Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Hammond is Premier League standard, easily. He should be in the England team, even if he isnt English, thats how good I think he is.
Huntingdon Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Not Morgan IMO He struts around like people have been forever telling him how great he is He needs to watch top Premier League midfielders and look at their workrate He lacks heart, bottle and is a lazy bastard - all of which suggests he'll never be a decent player at any level
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 We've plenty of players who you could easily see earning a living in the CCC - in some respects we are now almost a Championship quality team playing in L1. But we've only one who has a great chance of going further than the CCC anytime soon - his name is Adam Lallana . We're going to get serious interest in AL from the Premier League next summer , I hate to say it but we'll probably have to let him go .
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Spiderman is premiership calibre so is Wotton
Genk Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Hammond is Premier League standard, easily. He should be in the England team, even if he isnt English, thats how good I think he is. He is English Hammond would walk into a top 10 CCC team
SuperMikey Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 ----------Davis--------------- Murty--Jaidi--New CB--Harding --Hammond---Schneiderlin----- --Papa----Lallana----New LW-- ----------Lambert------------- I don't think Mills or Holmes are perhaps good enough yet to be regular CCC starters (or at least for 2/3 seasons according to the 5 year plan). We need someone with a bit of experience and great crossing ability to counter Papa's raw pace on the right wing. Ideally i'd have someone like Michael McIndoe, who I think is now playing at Coventry, but was at Bristol City before. He's a great crosser of the ball, he's got pace to burn as well and he's tricky to play against too. However, I think that if Holmes works hard on his fitness and gets another 20 or so first team appearances under his belt this season he could have a full season next year and really improve as a player. I really admire him, he's come back from a few really bad injuries and still works hard to improve his fitness, just to get injured again. He is a great crosser of the ball though, and he runs at his defenders too! Centre back is a tricky one, while i've been impressed by Trotman so far i'm unsure if Preston will let us have him, as they seem to really value him as a prospect for the future. Elliot Ward as someone said earlier in the thread would be a good partner for Jaidi, but maybe someone with a bit more pace would be best. I really liked Fitz Hall when he was at SMS, he had a bit of pace about him, he was a good tackler and was competent in the air. Sign him up!
Bailey Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Kelvin Davis Dan Harding Radhi Jaidi Graeme Murty Dean Hammond Morgan Schneiderlin Rickie Lambert Adam Lallana All good enough for the Championship IMO. It's a decent spine to build a team around too.
krissyboy31 Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 I suspect that by the time we get back to the championship the season after next (not CC any more) I think both Murty and Jaidi will have retired and Davis an Lallana will have moved on. Schneiderlin, Hammond and Lambert plus maybe McLaggon and Gobern. The rest will have to come from elsewhere.
Big Ron fan Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Saga just doesn't find form enough. Tony Adams didn't have many great games but the fact that he never had a poor one made him a great player. You obviously didn't see him up against Van basten in Euro 88 if you are writing something like that! Regarding the original post, as usual I think too many people are over-rating the squad. Jaidi (if he still has some legs) and Lallana are probably about the only 2 likely to challenge for a place in a good CCC team. The rest are probably about where they ought to be - in League 1, although one or two, notably Lambert, are obviously quite good at this level. (Not including Papa in this, as I haven't seen him yet.)
callysaint76 Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 Definately overrating our team Most are good League 1 players (Hammond and Harding) I think Lambert can be a championship player, one who improves as he gets older like Iwelumo, but only Morgan and Lallana are truely talented enough to play in the Championship or higher.
Micky Posted 4 October, 2009 Posted 4 October, 2009 I suspect that by the time we get back to the championship the season after next (not CC any more) I think both Murty and Jaidi will have retired and Davis an Lallana will have moved on. I agree - this is a much more realistic scenario of were those players might be in a couple of years from now.
