John B Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 I agree. Cortese said he was almost embarrassed by the lack of trophies in the cabinet. Well this may be a Mickey Mouse competition but it is a legitimate FL trophy. It is not a mickey mouse trophy it is a cup for all the teams in League 1 and 2. Like the FA CUP is for Chelsea Man U Liverpool Arsenal It gives a chance for genuine sopporters to go to Wembley I have not been there for years so I am looking forward to it
Wes Tender Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 This might be a Micky Mouse competition, but then we are effectively a Micky Mouse team by qualifying because of the division we find ourselves. But as we have a stadium, manager and players that ought to be the best in this division, we ought to have a realistic chance of winning the thing. But tonight's match is important for a very valid reason; it follows close on the heels of a good win on Saturday and a win tonight would do wonders for team confidence and put us on a good footing for Friday's match. Three wins in a row, regardless of the fact that the second win was in this minor cup competition, would mean such a great deal to turning the corner and progressing upwards.

brightspark Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Torquay fans seem to underestimate our support. On their forum they are saying between 4,500 and 5,500. At a guess, looking at our League Cup attendances, I would expect them to be just under those, so I will go with 9,000. Team? Keep Kelvin in goal. I'd expect to see Jaidi and Waigo rested as they are not fully fit, and 3 games in 6 days will damage them. Perry to start, hopefully Holmes too if fit. This is a competition i'd love to win. We need trophies, and this is the easiest way we will get them. Two JPTs in a row before promotion? Would be good. Davis James, Trotman, Perry, Harding Holmes, Gillett, Hammond, Mellis Lallana Lambert

Like the FA CUP is for Chelsea Man U Liverpool Arsenal It gives a chance for genuine sopporters to go to Wembley I have not been there for years so I am looking forward to it The FA Cup is not exclusively for the likes of those top 4 teams, or why would the 2008 final have been between the Skates and Cardiff and even our final in 2003 is comparatively recent history. The beauty of the FA Cup is that relative minnows like Havant & Waterlooville can progress to the late stages and cause an upset. Would it be a major upset if Torquay best us tomorrow? There are not that many positions between us and them at the moment.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Love the idea of us being in this competition. The bloke who claimed its embarrasing and a friendly...Will you be going to Wembley if we get there? Joke competition but one I want to win. What sort of team we sticking out? I'd suspect Holmes, Saga, Pato to play. Lambert not and obviously Mellis isn't. Maybe Lallana on the bench. Jaidi wont play with a game on Friday either. Agreed, I'd love a trip to Wembley. The amazing thing is we'd sell out our allocation if we got there.
chocco boxo Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 45,000 Saints Fans on their way to Wembley and ML providing free coaches I can see it now! COYR.
JRM Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 It's great to be playing in a cup competition we actually have a GOOD chance of winning it. and especially getting to Wembley. If we beat Torquay we are into the last 8 of the southern section. Worth going for this just for trip to Wembley, potential silverware, and every win helps build the confidence of the squad.

It was a sort of a tongue in cheek remark as nowadays the top four always seem to win it but some other I forget the name won it a couple of years ago
saints_is_the_south Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 5,000 sold so far according to Mr Luker.
the saint in winchester Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 I must admit I would have given fringe players a run out but AP is clear in his interview (on Player) that he will field "a very strong side Tue night", so I'll predict : Davis James, Trotman, Perry, Harding (someone who kicks right footed), Wotton, Hammond, Holmes Lallana Lambert
Um Bongo Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Got my tickets this afternoon, had to queue for 30 minutes! Though didn't realise the Northam was now open. Will be plenty of seats to choose from...

Lets B Avenue Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 I'm in Block 5 tomorrow, so do I have to stand up the whole evening and abuse the Torquay fans?
niceandfriendly Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 Got my tickets an hour ago, small queue down there. Apparently the Itchen is now almost full, which should mean a pretty decent attendance if the Northam is also full.
krissyboy31 Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 From the OS. Pardew wanted to name an unchanged side but "Mellis goes on international duty today, and Adam Lallana has reported in with a knock."
THEVMAN Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 From the OS. Pardew wanted to name an unchanged side but "Mellis goes on international duty today, and Adam Lallana has reported in with a knock." Lallana has been receiving painkilling injections for a rib injury he picked up at Carlisle just before games, wont be playing with Southend game only a couple of days away.
