hypochondriac Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 they were though.. i got a bit of stick (shocker) for saying I wanted to wait before claiming papa was any good....I was told he must be great as he plays for his country and came from CL fiorentina... I thought he looked poor tuesday night...the times he strayed offside looked like he had no idea... seriously find a quote because I haven't seen anyone say this. I think that when people have nothing to go on, they will look at some facts such as him being an international and having scored against Juventus. and think that it all sounds promising and odds are he must have something about him. I've seen no one claiming it as fact and FF has failed to show me anyone who has. I see after his attention seeking thread from a few weeks back that he never disappeared from the forum as he said he would. Makes you wonder why he started the thread in the first place. I have to say I kind of agrew with DD here, a lot of people were sticking Waigo straight into their starting 11s on here and bigging him up before he had even touched a football. I didn't see anyone claim he was fantastic though they just assumed he was better than what we had I think.

Window Cleaner Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 but I will be very surprised if he is still in our first team a year from now. Especially as he's on a short term loan from Fiorentina at the moment. I suppose they'd want us to pay money for him eventually.
david in sweden Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 No poor displays. Lambert MOM. Lallana carried on from tuesday...if only he had some pace.Another Surman who will find lack of pace is the thing that stops them being a top player. How nice to read so many good match reports, Nick I can agree with yr. Surman comment (not a great goalscorer) BUT yr. comment about Lallana's apparant lack of pace - may not be a problem. Several others, on here, have used the word " poacher " (about AL) and if that is the case, it may not be so negative as you might think. Looking back many top goalscorers (of the past) often lacked pace but made up for it with guile and skill on the ball; and still scored lots. My (long ago) memories of George O'Brien (1959-66) was that he was one of the laziest players I've ever seen, but it didn't stop him striking goals in from every angle or distance and taking half-chances whenever they came. More recently (MLT) who never won a 100 metres sprint, but had so much vision and scored unbelievable goals (looking at the video again). Great players with pace look exciting - until they lose that extra yard. Marian Pahars was dream to watch, but had nothing to offer after he'd been crippled by countless defenders. We can all recall players like the teenage Michael Owen...and Theo Walcott...but without their fast pace have much less to offer after 22/23 -ish. Lallana (hopefully) may exploit that sixth sense that goal poachers have and I'm still excited to see that sub. goal he scored in the away match at WBA a couple of seasons ago...it looked even better on TV. Lets hope Adam can continue to take his chances.
david in sweden Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 allana definitely got better today and came close to MOTM (for me that goes to Lambert) Saying that, I think he's much less effective on the left (where he started today) than down the middle. Arguably AP also wants to play Lallana in a more central position but didn't think after Tuesday Mellis could do the job on the left(so switched him with Lallana, gaining a bit with Mellis but losing a bit with Lallana). Strange that our system is partly designed to accomodate Mellis given he's not one of our heavyweights. Still he had a very good game today and I've been a fan for his movement, endeavour and alertness since day 1. re (Mellis)....nor, should we add ...is he permanent (!)..and not Trotman either. If they continue to perform well... both would give us some much -needed skill in their respective areas, but after they return to their parent clubs....then AP will have to re-build all over again after New Year. West End Saint Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 Great win some very good performances but I thought we played better football against Rovers not that I care 1 jot it is so nice to win well and create chances Lambert mom for me he is a proper footballer I thought he took his goal really well if we can get crosses like that into him he will get bundles of goals. Lallana great game just pipped to mom I have been critical & wondered where he would fit into the team but last couple of game he has been great took his goals very well never doubted his ability or effort & AP has now found where he is effective. Harding & Hammond great signings very good at this level well done to Harding for bouncing back after a poor game Tuesday Trottman & Jaidi great centre back pairing very solid win there headers would be a fantastic deal if we could sign Trottman permenatly fingers crossed it would be well worth NC getting the cheque book out & giving PNE a offer they cant refuse. Mellis fair play to him good game he hasnt been consitent but did well Saturday. Overall so pleased to have points on the board please let this be the start of a run that gets us out of bottom 3 by Xmas.
