SO16_Saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 anyone got/used these?? do they make a difference to the quality of sleep or help with bad backs?? just be interested to know whether i've just wasted £35...!
lutz Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 My chiropractor says they are a waste of money and do not help bad backs Sorry it's not the answer you wanted to hear.
Manuel Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Mixed views, mostly positive. We got one about six months ago and loved it at first, you tend to sink into them which is a nice feeling and it creates a comfortable hole. A few months down the line and it didn't seem to be doing it as much, so we took it off and stuck it on the daughter's bed. She loves it. Now though, the missus says she missus it and wants to get another, deeper, more expensive one. I think I've been shafted.
spyinthesky Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 I have a bad back Tried firm mattresses but no good. Bought a memory foam mattress. Kids have them too Works for me and Mrs Spy and young Spy's
bridge too far Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 I have a bad back Tried firm mattresses but no good. Bought a memory foam mattress. Kids have them too Works for me and Mrs Spy and young Spy's I don't know what's caused your bad back but, with a lot of people, it's bad posture. Surely sleeping on something that moulds to a bad posture will only exacerbate the bad posture / back pain? I had back probs a few years ago (slipped disc) and the best pain relief for me was to sleep on the floor
spyinthesky Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Combination of factors, mainly sport related. Regular physio since then. Have tried to exercise cautiously to strengthen back and maintain posture. Sure all this has helped but mattress has been part of the recovery process it seems
Saint Keith Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 My chiropractor says they are a waste of money and do not help bad backs Sorry it's not the answer you wanted to hear. your chiropractor is talking bowlocks. my chiropractor, physio, and back surgeon have all told me to get one we bought a 3000 pocket sprung mattress with layer of memory foam on top, now sleeping like a lamb
miserableoldgit Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 We have a memory foam mattress (not a topper) and we love it. Very comfortable and relaxing.
SO16_Saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Author Posted 1 October, 2009 cheers for the info guys. It seems that its a case of you either love it or hate it and time will tell.
Son of Bob Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 We've got a firm matress with an integrated memeory foam top. We had a firm matress prior to getting it and it took some getting used to. A bit too much of a soft feel to start with but now we're used to it it's bloody lovely!
saint boggy Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 i've got a memory foam topper , and bloody LOVE it........i don't suffer with a bad back, so can't comment on its effectiveness in that respect, but it makes you feel snug as a bug when you climb into bed, thats for sure...

SO16_Saint Posted 5 October, 2009 Author Posted 5 October, 2009 i have to say that after recieving it on Friday, i have had 3 of the best nights sleep i've had in years!! Highly recommend it.
Johnny Bognor Posted 5 October, 2009 Posted 5 October, 2009 (edited) I recently went for a Sleep to Live mattress. The main benefits are that the springs are more dense on the key contact points thus giving superior support where it is needed. They make the mattress to fit your profile - which is calculated by a computerised bed. I required a harder profile whilst my missus needs it softer. The mattress is made in two halfs and so we are both happy as our respective sides of the mattress suits us best. They are a bit pricey, but over 10 years (the guarantee period) they cost about 30p a night. For me, that is a small price to pay for a perfect night's sleep especially when you spend at least 25%-30% of your life in bed. http://www.sleeptolive.com/home.html Edited 5 October, 2009 by Johnny Bognor
