hughieslastminutegoal Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 Perhaps a sign that Saga is on the out's? On paper, you'd have Saga scoring for fun in this league. He might score for fun, but it certainly doesn't seem as if he will score for his wages.

VectisSaint Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 Wolves fan was telling me that Vokes is on his way to us. Don't believe it myself but thought I'd put that out there. wild-saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 OK Just had a call. Leicester have agreed to let us have DJ Campbell. He is on 10k per week we have offered to cover 6k with leicester picking up the rest to get him off the books. Problem is he wants to stay at leicester even though they have told him de doesnt figure in thier plans. They have given pardew his number to call cambell to try and persuade him to join. Lets hop he manages it as he maybe just what we need up fromt with Ricky.

ART Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 Is this Pardew once again saying he wants rid of Gillett because he's rather play Paul Wotton? Got to say I don't really rate him as a judge of talent if it is. I have to agree with you regarding Pas Dieu's judge of talent. That goes for his team selections and substitutions too. When he arrived we were told he knew a thing or two about up and coming players through all the Leagues, yet, it's always someone else who recommends a player to him. I can't help it but I have grave doubts to whether we'll ever go anywhere under Pas Dieu.
Clifford Nelson Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 Not that I object to more strikers in the club, but is that the problem? Lambert has scored six and Lallana 4, both of which is very respectable. It is nil from Saga, nil from Hammond (a proven goal scorer) and nil everywhere else. We can by striker after striker, but the problem is width, pace and runs from midfield.

SuperMikey Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 Well, at least DJ Campbell would win us a lot more penalties. Still have the 'still not scoring from open play ffs' whinging going on though! Ideally i'd have Vokes, mainly because he is a huge Saints fan. I know that if I were to sign for Saints (highly unlikely) that i'd give 110% every game to help the team, and i'm sure he'd be the same. The lad's obviously got some talent too. McSheffrey..I think he's more of a winger than a striker, and he's left sided as well, and I think that it would be unfair to recruit another left winger who would keep players like Holmes and Mills out of the squad, who should probably be starting each week. What we need is foil for Rickie. He is a big lad, he hasn't got the mobility to be chasing the ball around, creating chances for himself. He needs someone to zip around the pitch chasing defenders, he needs somebody with a good footballing mind and he needs someone with a bit of experience under his belt. I think the perfect man for the job is Michael Mifsud tbh. He's unattached at the moment, so fitness would be a problem if we were to sign him, but surely he's worth a go? Clubs like Newcastle were interested in him, and I remember reading about him being scouted by a few lower Prem clubs a few years back when he was at Cov. Sign him up imo! Vokes, Mifsud or a combination of the two would be fantastic for us.

Kingsbridge Saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Share Posted 1 October, 2009 Like the fact that Pardew clearly has identified that some of last seasons squad just aren't footballers. No-one else wants them either. Maybe office jobs beckon. The more of last seasons chaff we can get shot of, the better for morale. So personally I'd have the players he refers to on gardening leave and away from the club, and training etc. Unless they demonstrate a change in both attitude and ability. How reliable is your source? Gordon Watson. Oh GW scouts for Leicester. As for the benefit game MLT talked about arranging one and then it didnt happen because of time scales. Leicester were the team that he had lined up and that cam directly from MLT. So had no reason to doubt.

oxfordshire_saint Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 DJ Campbell would fit the bill IMO, got pace to burn and would be a tricky player for opposition defences to handle at this level. Anyone who is still suggesting Sam Vokes needs a reality check, yes he supports us but I can only see Wolves lending him out to a Championship side, no lower. Kadeem Hardison Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 Back to this argument again then? we should definitely not be playing with a loan striker up front. Evry time Lambert has playd as the loan striker we have struggeld to score and in fact have conceeded. Attack is the best form of defence. Id even suggest 3 up front, but would settle for 2. Anything but a loan striker. I hope pardew is reading this as Im prety sure we are all agreed about it.

Junction 9 Posted 2 October, 2009 Share Posted 2 October, 2009 I take it from this that Pardew is thinking of playing 5 in midfield with Papa wide right? He played in that position most of the time against Bristol anyway. The only positives I can see from this is that it might stop us leaking late goals, I'm just worried it's too much for Lambert to do on his own. LOAN striker is a borrowed striker, as opposed to LONE striker - a striker borrowed from another club. We want to bring a striker in on loan, not play 1 up front. Unless the pair of you are on the wind up, which makes me look the silly one!
