Kingsland Red Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 According to the BBC website AP is looking for a striker on loan. May be a bit of a struggle to find anyone better available / willing to join with the blessing of his club, than what we already have before January.
Genk Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Can only be good. Young players not attracting clubs apparently, and he doesn't want to see them sitting around. He says 5 players. Who do you think these are? Gillett? Lancashire? ......
WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 I am sure we can find a better striker than Saga who does not look like he is ever going to score and Patterson who is not ready.Mifsud and Connelly who are both unattached would be miles better imo and I'm sure there are plenty of other strikers who could do a better job than Saga and Patterson. We also need a decent quick winger like Gradel to get in behind teams and play to Lambert's strengths
paris Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Southampton boss Alan Pardew says signing a loan striker remains one of his top priorities. Pardew has brought seven new players to St Mary's since his arrival in July, but feels target man Rickie Lambert needs more support. Pardew told BBC Radio Solent: "We need to free Rickie up a bit. It would be nice to have another new player in that area to do so. "We've been getting plaudits but we need to get more points." Lambert has scored six Saints goals since his move from Bristol Rovers, while youngster Adam Lallana has netted four times. There are four or five who need to go out, either on loan or permanently. I don't want to see players sitting around earning money but not contributing Saints remain bottom of League One, having started the season with a 10-point penalty. Meanwhile Pardew remains frustrated that some of Saints' young talent have not attracted any interest from other clubs. The Saints boss has openly admitted that a number of the club's young professionals are not in his plans, but says they have not commanded enquiries. "It's disappointing that my phone hasn't been ringing. Maybe their efforts in the reserves or on the training ground need to improve," he said. "There are four or five who need to go out, either on loan or permanently. I don't want to see players sitting around earning money but not c
alpine_saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Superb. Another poor sap to pay whilst he gets frustrated at zero supply. Priority for me would be for someone to help Hammond dominate midfield.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Superb. Another poor sap to pay whilst he gets frustrated at zero supply. Priority for me would be for someone to help Hammond dominate midfield. New forward in & Llanna can slip back/cover the midfiled. Hammond + Llanna or Spiderman should be enough.
saint_stevo Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Wingers required. Not sure we could get anyone better than what we have on loan at this time.
Rebel Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 even if we get another striker in we still need a right winger with pace and a first choice right back Waigo is obviously still adjusting to the pace and style of League 1 football but looked promising on Tuesday night some of his one touch football was level or two above this league - and he's got pace to burn he also gave us some width - but it was obvious his natural position is upfront I'd like to see us bring in another striker - Vokes would be good as he's a Saints fan but I think he's on his way to Coventry. Tom Craddock at Luton could be worth a punt . He has pace apparently and a good scoring record in League 2. Max Gradel at Leicester apparently did very well in League 1 last season - and with pace and creativity would give us what we need on the right wing. Perhaps we can persuade Leicester to swap him with Saga for the rest of the season! The only people I can think of for right back are Phil Ifil (young and pacey) or Chris Baird (solid and experienced). Would Chris step down to League 1 for a homecoming though!
iansums Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Superb. Another poor sap to pay whilst he gets frustrated at zero supply. Priority for me would be for someone to help Hammond dominate midfield. For once I think I have to agree with you Alpine. My neutral mate who knows his football thinks midfield is where we are lacking. He kept banging on to me at the B Rovers game how the midfield were not getting into box and were constantly sitting too deep.

SO16_Saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 We always go deep after scoring. I dont know how long we can keep on saying it, but it's a confidence thing. That, above all i believe, needs sorting PDQ

SuperSAINT Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Perhaps a sign that Saga is on the out's? On paper, you'd have Saga scoring for fun in this league. Ideally, i'd love to see a striker with some serious pace come in on loan, but can't think of any. So with that being said, Sam Vokes would get my pick.

Ideally, i'd love to see a striker with some serious pace come in on loan, but can't think of any. So with that being said, Sam Vokes would get my pick. If he was playing he would be scoring IMO, If saga played regularly, every week and got fit and started getting the balls from the middle he'd score. He had his hot patch here after he played a run of games (where he looked quite rubbish at the start tbh). Also, the balls and service he got from midfield (danny guthrie) were perfect for him. It's a waste of time having saga as a sub and playing the way we do around him - either use him from the start every week, or let him go.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Saga hasnt been 'on-form' for almost 2 years. It's funny how the league is tough when excuses are needed for our dismal return, yet Saga is destined to score hundreds as the league is poor? im confused
alpine_saint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 I dont know how long we can keep on saying it, but it's a confidence thing. That, above all i believe, needs sorting PDQ Jesus, apart from winning, what else can breed confidence apart from scoring and hearing the roar of the crowd and the smiles of women, men and children in the stands that come in response to scoring ? These are meant to be professional footballers, not psychiatric hospital inmates FFS.
Wes Tender Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Henri Camara still kicking about ??? Good shout! Presumably the Skates couldn't afford his wages. I reckon he could be just the player for us if he was prepared to drop down the divisions. He might be pursuaded to join his mate Waigo.
BotleySaint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Saga hasnt been 'on-form' for almost 2 years. Saga bascially doesn't want to be here anymore... we need someone who wants to play for the club who can control all our long balls and lay them in for Lambert. Or we need to stop playing long ball football...
John B Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Good shout! Presumably the Skates couldn't afford his wages. I reckon he could be just the player for us if he was prepared to drop down the divisions. He might be pursuaded to join his mate Waigo. Yes he is the sort of player we need not some youngster who cannot get into a Premiership Team

Are you always so aggressive or is it just when you're being faceless infront of a computer screen?
ART Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Can someone please please send Pas Dieu a video of Camara playing down the left wing, cutting in to goal. He's just the man to transform the current side. If not Camara, then we do definitely need a couple of decent wingers. I am starting to think Bradley should never have left. Just look at 'im now and Plymouth and Luggy just can't do a thing right. Maybe we should loan Woot on back to them.
Rasiak-9- Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 We need someone of the ilk of that Chris Dickson that played for rovers the other night, pacey but always hungry, a real shift-and-shoot sort of player
Pancake Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Can someone please please send Pas Dieu... Not sure whether to applaud the genius or cringe at the sentiment.

I'd take him back like a shot, but zero chance of that. I didn't think BWP should have ever left, but he wanted to go so no point in worrying abut it. He broke his leg as soon as he got there didn't he? not even Brighton would take Wotton off our hands last season, so I can't see Plymouth doing so now.
a1ex2001 Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Is this Pardew once again saying he wants rid of Gillett because he's rather play Paul Wotton? Got to say I don't really rate him as a judge of talent if it is.
PaulSaint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 We need someone of the ilk of that Chris Dickson that played for rovers the other night, pacey but always hungry, a real shift-and-shoot sort of player I agree he was sh*t hot the other night. Anyone know if he was Lamberts partner last year?
Stepgar Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 is Nathan Dyer playing regularily at Swansea??? Natural winger
GenevaSaint Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Superb. Another poor sap to pay whilst he gets frustrated at zero supply. Priority for me would be for someone to help Hammond dominate midfield. We dominated midfield for large parts of the game against Rovers. There is a difference between dominating midfield and getting attacking midfielders to push on supporting the strikers. If we got another quality striker in that would give Lambert time and space and us more options. I'm sure he's sick to death of being the sole target man.
derry Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 I agree he was sh*t hot the other night. Anyone know if he was Lamberts partner last year? No, he's on loan from Charlton.
Give it to Ron Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 is Nathan Dyer playing regularily at Swansea??? Natural winger Not next week he got sent off for 2 bookable offences..the second was kicking the ball away at a free kick!
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Our problem is simply that we have an abundance of fringe players that are not suited to or not good enough for the positions that we actually need cover in. The list includes... Wotton, Gillet, Saga, Mills, Mellis, James, Lancashire, Perry and a couple of others. IMO this is where Cortesse and Markus earn their corn...it's where they take the pressure off AP by saying - "forget the salaries of these guys while they're here, we'll soak that up...you go get the three new players you need to replace them and make a difference". If that were to happen, I feel sure you would see a dramatic change in the fortunes of the team and of course the knock 'feel-good' factor in the club. Having said that, I think it's 'pie-in-sky' thinking that we could afford the salary of the likes of Camara. Not sure he is too lightweight for this division too.

He has been playing and has yet to score in a league many were telling us he'd score for fun in!!
Scudamore Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Not next week he got sent off for 2 bookable offences..the second was kicking the ball away at a free kick! He's still a bit of a **** then i see...
The9 Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Waigo is obviously still adjusting to the pace and style of League 1 football but looked promising on Tuesday night I agree with the first part and I think he'll come good but can't agree with the second. I thought Waigo looked completely lost on Tuesday, and as for his attitude to straying offside during the build-up... he's obviously got skill and pace, but learning to head a ball (Hammond's free kick which he watched go past his head at the far post), closing the ball down (see Lallana for details who was excellent on Tuesday) and offside (endless failures to stand anywhere other than goalside of the last defender) would be a good start. And I'm not slating him because of the hype, as I was never part of the hype in the first place, I just think he needs a sharp lesson in the basics, and from earning the right to be on the pitch he can nutmeg fullbacks and dummy keepers all he likes.
saint_stevo Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 He's still a bit of a **** then i see... And he stole the ref's whistle
saint_stevo Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 That lad swindon got on loan from Bolton looked useful. Tobe Konajajaueofijidi or similar
trousers Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Scratched record alert..... Why don't we just loan in (then buy) the one or two main Bristol Rovers players that fed Lambert last season? Surely there's a price that would tempt them but not be extortionate for us? Hey presto - ready made strike force from last season....no?
trousers Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 surely gary mcsheffrey fits the bill?... He's a footballer not an actor though... Ah, hang on...."The Bill"...sorry, my mistake....
saint_stevo Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 surely gary mcsheffrey fits the bill?... gets games at Brum in the prem though! MAYBE if we were in the champs, not rock bottom of L1 he would be tempted
Hopkins Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 Wolves fan was telling me that Vokes is on his way to us. Don't believe it myself but thought I'd put that out there. Personally believe he'd be off to a Championship club if anywhere.
dello Posted 1 October, 2009 Posted 1 October, 2009 i thought they wanted to shift him out on loan though?
