Cabrone Posted 28 September, 2009 Share Posted 28 September, 2009 Difficult game and less confident of 3 points than I was for Carlisle. Rather than falling apart Rovers seem to have become tighter since losing Lambert. 2-2.

I take this to be a good sign for the team. There is a definite consensus on the back 5, a little difference on the front two, but I think there are quite varying opinions about our midfield. If we win we can be sure that we really are improving! COYR!!! Yeah but they also won 3 of their 4 away games. Today will indeed give us a better indication of what to expect from our season. They will be the best team to visit us so far, and in terms of difficulty will be as hard as it get's in this league. Win and we can mix it with the bigger teams, lose and well thats not a good sign. As others have mentioned we seem to do better when playing the better teams so maybe that will continue today. I think we can win if everyone does their job. Including the fans. brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 29 September, 2009 Share Posted 29 September, 2009 This is a big game for Bristol Rovers, with an average home attendance of just 7,000 it will be like playing at Wembley for them (same for most of the teams this year) so they will be well up for it. All the same I will go for a narrow Saints win of 1 -0 in front of a crowd of 19 - 20,

No team in League One is too strong to get beaten by us. Doing well right now or not, they are still guaranteed to be a team of hard-working but limited professional footballers full of nondiscript players who you will never have heard of/only hear of again the next time we play them. If we play well and take our chances we will beat them. If we don't we might not, but it will be nothing to do with their strength as a team. Ponty Posted 29 September, 2009 Share Posted 29 September, 2009 I'm backing a win and if you disclude the Millwall game (which had to be a complete guess) I've only been wrong once this season when I anticipated defeat to Charlton and we got a draw. This means that I've never over-estimated our ability, so if I say a win it's nailed on. Sorry for jinxing it - I hope those who go can swallow a home defeat. Chez Posted 29 September, 2009 Share Posted 29 September, 2009 I fancy our chances against anyone at home. We dominate possession in most games and teams that have the ball most more often than not win more games than they lose. Obviously we have struggled for goals but all teams go through sticky patches, what is key is that we keep passing the ball and just up the pace a little. Can anyone tell me, do Rovers sell out there ground? Is their support much much bigger than ther 7000 crowds suggest? I recall them getting 40,000 for a Wembley final a number of years back. I live right in the middle of the gas side of Bristol, there is a big following in Bristol but they only average just shy of 9k per game in a 12k capacity ground. Bristol is more city orientated and always will be as the league table stands. One thing is I won't be off tonight as last time I went out in my Saints shirt I was royally ****ted by a rovers fan in my local Wetherspoons!! ericofarabia Posted 29 September, 2009 Share Posted 29 September, 2009 Thought I'd screwed my evening up as I'd forgotten to re new my Live Commentary (nobody sent me a reminder ). Saturday was a nightmare, no commentary and no beer due to work. BUT tonight it's pre match Roast Pork and all the trimmings, a bottle of Red then nearer the KO time crack open the Old Speckled Hens and log on for the commentary (which I know will be sh!te but better than watching text updates f'sure ) My Account got reactivated as soon as I'd finished sending my Card details .... so if any of the others who were in the same situation as me on Sat haven't got around to signing up again it's not too late (Not sure if Standing Orders on Debit Cards get connected staright away as first debit not due till the end of the week so played safe and used Credit Card and it worked staright away. Now hopefully it will be worth my while staying up till 1am to listen to it

ooarrlatvian Posted 29 September, 2009 Share Posted 29 September, 2009 By the way I'm 'In the know' - I have been a gashead since I was 9 (1972) and in fact only became a Saints fan in 1990 when working in the centre of town at Skandia Life. Lambert is a legend and is total quality, as you all know by now. The reason Rovers are doing better without him is that Lambo is no longer 100% of the focus for the team. The current side were built around Lambo and indeed Kuffours was bought because it was felt that Lambo needed a nippy, strong striker to feed off his knock-downs etc. This season Rovers have been using the wings a LOT more, with the full-backs getting on overlaps as well as the wingers we have. Both our wingers have done really well this season in particular Andy Williams who was on the transfer list up until last week having been out on loan after not really setting the club alight. Also Rovers have benefitted from a fit-again Danny Coles in central defence. He was injured all last season and would probably have played in the PL with former club Hull had he been able to stay injury-free there. He has worked well with 'Lord' Byron Anthony in the centre of defence, with Anthony having the pace and skills and Coles the strength and nous. I'd be very happy with a draw tonight having said all that. Cheers.
