the stain Posted 30 September, 2009 Share Posted 30 September, 2009 The Swiss have picked a very strange time to grow a pair. Its about time we had another European war. Very odd business, it's not like they couldn't have arrested him at any point in the last three decades. Still good films or not, he did reighp a child and should do time for it. norwaysaint Posted 30 September, 2009 Share Posted 30 September, 2009 How good do you have to be in your given field before you're allowed to do that sort of thing? I mean, Elvis Presley did it and he seems to have been pretty much forgiven, maybe because he married her when she was old enough, but he was still a paedophile in the strictest sense (and it was legally rape). Polanski hasn't been publicly hated despite having confessed to it and has even won oscars afterwards. Gary Glitter was way short of the required rate of success though. Can we draw up a list of people famous enough to do it, just so we can straighten out the criteria. For example would we allow Bob Geldof a 'bye'. What about Kevin Keegan? Interesting view poiint. Putting aside the moral thoughts on this, what was the age of consent in Germany in the 50s? 14 I believe, so does that make it "legally" rape? Pete Townshend got away with it as well (images on his computer anyway).

jeff leopard Posted 30 September, 2009 Share Posted 30 September, 2009 How good do you have to be in your given field before you're allowed to do that sort of thing? Gary Linaker raped and strangled all those kiddies with special needs after Everton lost the 1986 cup final, but that seems to have been forgotten by the ruling classes. the thing with Polanski is that some people feel that he's suffered enough, what with growing up in a polish ghetto and then his wife/unborn child being killed by Charles Manson's followers, and there's some doubt over the strength of the case against him. its all covered in a highly rated documentary that came out last year http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/roman_polanski_wanted_and_desired/ i wouldn't be surprised if this re-kindled the authorities' desires to see him banged up the slammer. If you were the guy that organised the swiss film festival that booked Polanski to come and collect a lifetime achievment, how gutted would you be? the stain Posted 30 September, 2009 Share Posted 30 September, 2009 and there's some doubt over the strength of the case against him. I'm not sure there's any doubt over that. He admitted all charges and was found guilty. The contentious issue was the judge wanting to amend the sentence (initially little more than a couple of trips to a shrink), which is when he skipped bail. There may well be something dubious about that, but it would take a particularly head-up-anus view of the worth of his subsequent work to believe that any kind of moral justice has been served.
