We have a goalscoring problem

Was it just me or was there a massive dark cloud over Southampton for most of August? Like in that episode of The Flumps.

I take it that dig is directed at me. Is it really necessary ? I came back here buoyed by what I saw, but I am frustrated at the apparent lack of progress since.

Why is that cause for ridicule ?

What lack of progess???? Everyone who has been to the games since then has agreed that progress is being made.

Progress:- Not losing games-6 undefeated.

Reality check:- 3 league goals from play in 9 games. Paterson, Harding, Lallana.

1 goal from God knows how many corners.

1 goal from God knows how many free kicks.

3 penalties.

0 goals from God knows how many hopeful crosses from deep. Hardly any crosses from the byeline. Total lack of width and pace.

There is a long way to go and little sign of improvement.

You've got to admit though, it's much better to become a solid hard to beat side first and then work on the attacking side of things.

Last season so many times we'd be 2 or 3 goals down in the first half, and the game would effectively be over.

I'd much rather have it this way round then watching 'beautiful football' leading up to the 2nd or 3rd consolation goal each match.

I'm not looking for 'beautiful' football, I'm looking for efficient teamwork with proper width, getting down the touchlines and allowing the midfielders to get into the box.

All we are doing at the moment is playing narrow huffing and puffing football. Pressure and possession on it's own doesn't win matches proper one on one chances have to be created and we aren't doing that.

The only statistics that will show progress is multiple goals from play and clean sheets . Multiple goals won't happen until we play with width and introduce some pace especially wide.
