Dog Posted 26 September, 2009 Share Posted 26 September, 2009 I have to go to Gibraltar in november to do a drop, and it means driving down in a transit van. Ferry isnt an option as the person I'm going with gets sick in the bath. So it will be 1 night in France, 1 night in Spain followed by 3 nights on the rock.↲Any good bars, clubs or brothels out there?↲Also good places to stop at on the journey down. .comsaint Posted 26 September, 2009 Share Posted 26 September, 2009 hahaha the donkeys flip flop is still the place to be...and the market tavern...been arrested there a few times...lol I first went to Gib in 1979 onboard HMS Bulwark (the old commando/aircraft carrier) and last time was in 1988 on the Type 42 destroyer HMS Cardiff. In between years - a total of 14 visits to the 'Rock'. Heaven knows it's probably changed beyond belief nowadays. Other than my home port of Pompey - Gib was like a home-from-home as I always seemed to be there for some reason or other. Fond memories mostly. There's no way I can help the OP as regards bars/pubs/clubs as it would have changed beyond recognition now. Remember Both Worlds, Main Street (lots of bars off there), the Casino on the side of the rock, rickety old cable car up to the apes, many many different bars all over the place. When you were on a carrier with a crew of 1,000 - trouble was never far away with jolly jack tar getting pizzed & fighting in every other bar! Always liked Gib though - great place to let off steam. Thedelldays Posted 26 September, 2009 Share Posted 26 September, 2009 .com pretty much the same.... loads of little bars everywhere...most pretty grotty but dirt cheap.... been there on a sub when a frigate and destroyer came in (with an RFA)...was pretty funny...we enjoyed throwing pound coins at our lesser paid skimmer friends... their WRNS loved us too for two reasons..we were "new meat" and we stayed in hotels...so it was easy pickings.....always caused trouble though the same old crap cable cars are there but I got a bus up the rock the last time I went....did a gib rock run once after being out all night on the ****....how i got up there alive I will never know... great laugh I had a draft out there 3 years ago cancelled about a month before I was due to go..gutted
Thedelldays Posted 26 September, 2009 Share Posted 26 September, 2009 for the OP... bars and clubs in GIB...loads of bars..mostly small but very cheap and a very good laugh...the Horse Shoe is a classic (ask for a drink called a JC) the the Angry Frior....the Tomb Bar is also good, the Market Tavern... the are a few nightclubs too.... if you want Brothels (so I am told)...Go over the boarder into spain, get a taxi and for a place called Los Lagos in town called La Linea....(again so I am told) it is unbelievable... spain saint Posted 27 September, 2009 Share Posted 27 September, 2009 I live about 15 minutes from Gib! There are loads of bars and clubs in Gib as DD says, not sure which ones are best to be honest, as i don´t go over the border very often. Imho you should do what you have to do in Gib and then get out and stay 3 days in Spain. I hate Gib as the people are really rude! They don´t like the Spanish and they don´t like the English either. As DD says the brothel to be at is about 10 mins form the border but not actually in La Linea, but on the dual carriageway towards Los Barrios. (apparently!!!!) If you need anymore info just ask. dune Posted 27 September, 2009 Share Posted 27 September, 2009 I hate Gib as the people are really rude! Yes they are. A few years ago i had a hire car and knocked a Gibraltarian off his bike. I naturally checked in the rear view mirror to see if he was ok and you never saw such a display of gesticulations. I may have stopped to offer reimbursement for the damaged bicycle but for his attitude. Let that be a lesson to him.
sotonjoe Posted 27 September, 2009 Share Posted 27 September, 2009 I went there for a day in the summer and thought it was a right hole of a place tbh. Nothing to get excited about.
