dubai_phil Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 My first trip here I have an unexpected day to kill tday after my conference. Am in a nice hotel on International Drive, and have to leave tomorrow morning at 9am. Where should a 50 something nutter go for the day? Disney/Universal/Epcot etc etc etc I don't really enjoy queuing on my own with a zillion kids and I ain't as good on high Octane rollercoasters as I used to be, have done EuroDisney a few times and it was ok when not busy with mates but here I am just me and my rental car... (Oh and I played golf twice with a Tour Pro who was at the conference since I got here so don't need any more!)
Islander Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 As a 50 something who hates rollercoasters I woud suggest Epcot. A few rides there to be avoided but a good day for an adult. If you want food - the 'lands' of Norway, Italy and Canada were good from what I remember. Also, stay for the fireworks! Enjoy
OLYMPIC Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Wet and Wild always used to be good for a laugh on International drive.
Scummer Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Islands of Adventure is the best park in my opinion, but it's mainly rollercoasters/thrill rides.
saint lard Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 So your going to spend a day in Orlando.
dubai_phil Posted 25 September, 2009 Author Posted 25 September, 2009 Gentlemans Bars Been at a conference all week with Yanks with expense accounts  When I wasn't blasting golf balls into lakes/trees etc
Jillyanne Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 So your going to spend a day in Orlando. Lol

SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Take a drive to the Kennedy space centre, a good place to visit!
dubai_phil Posted 25 September, 2009 Author Posted 25 September, 2009 Thaks gang. Looks like Epcot... Don't get me wrong, I don't HATE rollercoasters per se, just that when you get a hangover, apparently the brain finds it easier to get bashed against the inside of your skull when experiencing rapid G-Force shifts.... So I really ain't up to keeping the hangover repeating itself all day long! Cheers Scudamore, there's a wonderworld near the hotel as well that caused us to stop and blink - the building is upside down, may try that later if get bored at Epcot!
Jesus Reigned Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 If you can find a Wendy's you've got to go there; their burgers are great. Used to be one in London I think but not any more? Or some other place that did the best salt beef sandwiches; can't remember the name but I did last go there in 1988!!

In fairness the Ripley's thing wouldn't take a whole day anyway. Good for an hour or two mind. You get to pose for a photo with a waxwork of this dude. And a serious fatty as well! Oh and there's a Mona Lisa made out of squares of toast burnt to different shades. That's stayed with me that has!
Tamesaint Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Red Lobster serves good seafood at rasonable prices.

Scudamore Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 (edited) When we were in Florida a couple of years' ago we went to a Red Lobster and they were out of lobster. When i went there there was a couple on the table next to us that were so fat they had special chairs for them. It put me off my meal. Edited 25 September, 2009 by Scudamore

Scudamore Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 LOL really..? something you dont see every day...haha It was like Mr Creosote had taken his good lady out for dinner. All you can eat was the obvious choice. They were heard to say something about driving 40 minutes to get there because it was so good. Still what with the sizes of portions out in America i'm surprised there aren't more fatties to be honest.
Scudamore Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 I should point out that the chairs weren't especially made for their fat carcasses. But were just sturdier metal looking chairs than the wooden ones we were on. They obviously get it a lot at that place so have the girder chairs there just in case!
Saint in Paradise Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 "A day to kill" in Orlando. I'll look out for you on the news. Still hearing the voices? I thought similar to that, I wondered if he was going to ask for gun suggestions

dubai_phil Posted 25 September, 2009 Author Posted 25 September, 2009 Thanks guys, here's the update McDonalds Angus Bacon & Cheese Burgers - new and VERY good Seafood nah - big eff off steak later tonight Didn't take a machete, but a bit worried at the sound of sirens as I did hook one of my drives horribly yesterday and hit a car on the far opposite lane of the highway big squeal of brakes and a crunch of glass at the time, we went for a quick review of the previous green... Epcot - meah - nice day out but not a once in a lifetime, although the sort of futurama cartoon thingy they make of you in Spaceship earth made me smirk. They had a Food & Drink festival - 6 bucks for a micro food portion and 12 bucks for a "specially imported beer". Went to China and had a Tsing Tao for $5 Passed Ripley's on the way back seemed empty, don't they have one in Blackpool or something. Think I saw an American, most the other blokes were wearing Liverpool training tops or England shirts. Two Jock ladies sat down while I had a pint of Bass one broke the chair so not just the Yanks. Spent an hour at an Outlet Mall on the way home and found nowhere had anything in my size. Strangely I'm an XXXL in Thailand, XXL in Dubai, XL in UK and a frigging Medium sized Polo shirt here - lol
dubai_phil Posted 26 September, 2009 Author Posted 26 September, 2009 woo hoo update part two How can anyone eat an American Porterhouse Steak - 24 ounces FFS I feel SO fat... And for anyone else coming this way International Drive Howl at The Moon. Probably the future - Rock Band bar mixed with karaoke. Was just perfect
