Hatch Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 England: Andrew Strauss (capt), Joe Denly, Owais Shah, Paul Collingwood, Eoin Morgan, Matt Prior (wk), Luke Wright, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Graham Onions. Sri Lanka: Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (capt & wk), Mahela Jayawardene, Thilina Kandamby, Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara, Muttiah Muralitharan, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis We will probably lose by 80 runs or 8 wickets...
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Sri Lanka 7-2 from 2.3 overs!
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Now 17-3, great start from England.
saints_is_the_south Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Sri Lanka recovered slightly but just lost another wicket, 81-5.
chrisobee Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 A predictable recovery to 131/5 off 29. 200 will probably be enough TBH
saintwarwick Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 A predictable recovery to 131/5 off 29. 200 will probably be enough TBH SL all out for 212, lets see how easy we collapse!!
chrisobee Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 Lost 2 early wickets but Shah and Collingwod have taken us to 56/2 off 16 overs. SL only batted 47.3 overs, as long as we don't get bowled out we should win only needing 4.5 per over. Trouble is what odds we do get bowled out!
saintwarwick Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 147 for 3 after 33 overs Less than four an over required, just keep the wickets intact and it should be ab easy win.
John B Posted 25 September, 2009 Posted 25 September, 2009 (edited) Less than four an over required, just keep the wickets intact and it should be ab easy win. Sri Lanka 212 (47.3 ov) England 213/4 (45 ov) Match over Matt Prior 28 no Eoin Morgan 62 no Edited 25 September, 2009 by John B

It was but Sri Lanka really did not take defeat very well, the pitch did not "suit them" it seems. Well it's in SA, what do they expect ? England for all their poor ODI performances generally play on pitches that are not like pitches here in England. Very sporting of Strauss to recall Matthews after he was "run out" following a collision with Matthews and fair play to Matthews who went over and thanked Strauss when he was actually out. That was more in the spirit of the game than Sangakkara giving England no credit at all in his post match interview, very poor.
