Just watched Nick Love's remake of the 80's TV Movie. Not great. Love's obsession with Football Violence and 80's fashion is wearing a bit thin. There's only so many films you can make on this subject and The Firm really didn't need remaking with Love's take on things. May sound daft, but little details really ****ed me off. One of the main characters in the original was called 'Yeti', probably because of his blonde/white hair. In this film he's played by Daniel Mayes who has nothing 'Yeti' about him at all. Also, Love seems to think that the fashion from 1980 - 1989 basically involved Adidas trainers and Fila Tracksuits and nothing else. I could go on for hours about how this film should have never been remade. In the end I think it's easier to sit down and watch the original. It's far more enjoyable.

All these crap hoolie films are getting very tedious :( it's one of those things that should be quite an interesting subject for a film but never turns out quite right. These films either end up being too far-fetched with some gangster-type plot tacked onto the football violence, or just duller film versions of one of the half a million clips of actual hooligans on YouTube.

People fighting at the football can't carry a film on its own, it could only work as one factor in any decent plot.

100% agree, plus Nick Love is a bit of a twit.

What you said. Plus the original has Gary Oldman as Bex. Do you know, I might watch the DVD tonight just to remind me how good it was.

I loved the book The Football Factory by John King but Nick Love managed to rewrite it for the screen into something completely different and missing so much of the books subtlelty. Yes, you do lose some of this when making the film of a book, but not the chunks that NL missed out. The old war veteran and his reminiscences for example.

Anyway, I stray somewhat from the topic....so consensus is, watch the original and don't bother with the remake.

The only one of these type of films i enjoyed was I.D. well acted and gave a slightly different take on things from the police perspective.

Agree, ID was subtle and quite clever.

It's a shame that people often can't see past the bits showing blokes hitting each other.

Just watched the original version of 'The Firm'. It's streets ahead of the remake. Gary Oldman is superb. Infact, all the acting is ten times better than in the remake. It's led me to the conclusion that Nick Love is a **** for trying to remake it. He's simply taken the classic scenes from the original and arranged them in a slightly different order, made more of the fight scenes, and generally got the whole perspective wrong. The original was about blokes with decent jobs, cars etc. travelling 1st class on the train to have a ruck at weekends. Love has tried to make out that once home from their white collar jobs they donned their Fila and Adidas and turned into Chavs. Sorry Mr. Love, but you've got it all wrong. You've got 2 types of football hooligan mixed up and it just doesn't work. The Casuals were a completely different bunch to the White collar workers.

The only good thing about the remake is that Nick Love didn't employ the services of 'Top ****ney Geezer ******' Danny Dyer, which is suprising given that they seem to be joined at the hip. I wish Nick Love would stick to making his own films. Preferably not about Football violence as there's only so many ways you can tackle the subject.

Agree with the comments about I.D. That was a great film.

Went to see it last night. Quite different from the first one but enough there to see it was based on it.

Thought it was funny and quite good for a reminise with the lads.

Continuity in terms of music, dress sense and electric drills was a bit lacking.

Brought back some fond and not so fond memories.

Deer Stalker anyone ?
