Armitage Shanks Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Nothing has been said about his performance on Saturday. I thought that he was immense. Just what we have been after for some time. Someone who has balls and is not afraid to get stuck in and make tackles that others will pull out of. Him and Harding are seriously good addditions to the team.

Agree, I think all of Pardews signings have been pretty good. The back 4 look strong and solid, Hammond is holding things together well in the middle and we now have a genuine goal threat in Lambert and Waigo. The subs bench is pretty exciting to, anyone of Saganoski, melis, Paterson, Wotton, Gillet etc. Things are starting to look good, onwards and upwards!!!
Phil the Saint Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 My MOTM by a long way. Never shirked a tackle and has a great engine.
skintsaint Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Get the confidence flowing in the team and I can see us picking up more wins than draws/losses easily, by looking at line ups of other teams in the league (Gobern starting for MKDons for example) our team is definately as good as Charlton/Leeds.
saintrich Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Thought he played well, but will probably get sent off this season - a few times he went in two footed, albeit fairly.
S-Clarke Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 My MOTM too - thought he was everywhere, tackling, tracking back, accurately passing and seemed to drive us forward A real leader in the middle of the park, something we haven't had for a while. It's amazing that it's only taken pard's a couple of months to add the types of players we've been screaming out for over the last 3 years.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 He reminds me of both ****erill AND Jimmy Case - best bits of both really. Can't fault any of Pards' signings...at all.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 My mate who supports Brighton said we'd signed an excellent player, when we signed him. If he keeps putting in the sort of performances he did on Saturday, I'll have to agree!
Gordon Mockles Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Agreed, a very shrewd and good signing along the lines of my current favourite (despite not having his best game) Harding. We've lacked leaders for some time. Claus took over from Svensson but didn't really cut it imho. Since then, we've lacked any leadership qualities. Pardew has indentified and added more than a couple which is great news. Jaidi, Hammond, Harding, Murty...all leaders with a few having had captaincies. We just now need to keep the ball on the ground and start attacking, creating and finishing off from open play. Saturday was poor imho. Teams like Yeovil we should be hammering 4-5 nil at home!
SuperSAINT Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 It's amazing that it's only taken pard's a couple of months to add the types of players we've been screaming out for over the last 3 years. Agreed. Especially in defence!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Been well impressed with Hammond so far, the fact he gets stuck in, and isn't scared to have a pop at goal is excellent, just what we need and have needed in the centre of midfield for a while. His work rate is second to none and he seems to be very vocal. Certainly one of our 'star players'.

Someone who has balls and is not afraid to get stuck in and make tackles that others will pull out of. Him and Harding are seriously good addditions to the team. Much better than he did against his old Colchester mates, interesting how 4 or 5 sliding tackles somehow registers with people though. He did make one excellent near post clearance for a corner when tracking a run, and we have been lacking that recently. Other than that I thought he was pretty much the same overall with a bit more running around, but he needs to learn when not to make stupid tackles, could easily have been sent off. Plays the simple ball but likes a bit of space, not sure what he's like in a congested midfield yet. Reminds me of Lee Holmes but infield, strangely.

Someone who has balls and is not afraid to get stuck in and make tackles that others will pull out of. Him and Harding are seriously good addditions to the team. Best players were Trotman, solid as you like, Lallana, who was always available and caused their defence (on both sides) all sorts of problems, Lambert, who despite never getting any protection from the officials, won just about every header, held the ball up well and of course hit 2 class penalties and Hammond, who I thought was immense. Best performance from any Saints player this season (and probably last as well). My comments from the match verdict thread FWIW!!
mikey_boosh Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Thought he did brilliantly Saturday. Did eveything he needed to do - tackled well, got stuck in, broke up play and played short simple passes to the players with more creativity (i.e. Schneiderlin).
View From The Top Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 He reminds me of both ****erill AND Jimmy Case - best bits of both really. Can't fault any of Pards' signings...at all. That's just what we said on Saturday. He' what we've been missing for years.
OldNick Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 I agree he is going to be a fans favourite
Bourno Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Whilst I appreciate everything KD has done for Saints and the fact that he is probably our best player, I feel that Hammond would be a more effective on field captain for the team.
Minsk Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Get the confidence flowing in the team and I can see us picking up more wins than draws/losses easily, by looking at line ups of other teams in the league (Gobern starting for MKDons for example) our team is definately as good as Charlton/Leeds. Oscar Gobern wasn't even on the bench for MK Dons on Saturday. it was his brother (Lewis) who started for them. As for Hammond, he certainly does appear to be what we have been missing since Chris Marsden went. Given the choice I would have preferred it if we had signed him instead of both Wotton and Spiderman last year.
Thedelldays Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 great news...probably just starting to see why he was a captain else where

Cabrone Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Agree with most of the sentiments on here, he's the type of player we've been crying out for. A real leader on the pitch. Lets hope his influence rubs off on those around him.
The Godfather Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Excellent so far, just need to find the right central midfielder to play along side him as it doesn't work with schneiderlin.
The boy done well Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 My mate who supports Brighton said we'd signed an excellent player' date=' when we signed him. If he keeps putting in the sort of performances he did on Saturday, I'll have to agree![/quote'] I have a mate who's a Brighton supporter too. He was just a bit p***ed off when I told him we'd got Hammond as he's definitely no Saints fan. Reckoned he was Brighton's best midfield player since Brian Horton which I guess is going back to the mid to late 70's/early 80's when they got promoted and remained in the old First Division for a while.
OldNick Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Does anyone else think he runs a bit like Beckham? If we could find another winner in midfield like him we will certainly start to do well. The defence is looking intimidating, get a midfielder with hammond (although his 2 footed tackles worry me) and a goalscorer and we are sorted.
Sour Mash Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 He reminds me of both ****erill AND Jimmy Case - best bits of both really. Can't fault any of Pards' signings...at all. Haven't seen any of sign of him being anywhere near as good a striker of the ball as either of those two, fingers crossed we'll see that soon.
Sour Mash Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 My comments from the match verdict thread FWIW!! I agree that hammond looks good, exactly what we've been looking for, however on another day he could have easily been sent off, how often did he dive in two-footed, especially when there was no apparent need whatsoever?
krissyboy31 Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 I agree that hammond looks good, exactly what we've been looking for, however on another day he could have easily been sent off, how often did he dive in two-footed, especially when there was no apparent need whatsoever? A lot of tough (sliding) tackling but not one was two footed. Always slid in with one foot planted.
Clifford Nelson Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 I think he is immense, but I would like to see him more offensive. With a decent partner he should be encouraged to get himself in the box at every opportunity. But what partner? I don't trust Schneiderlin in CM and on Saturday every other pass was a miss-pass. James may be steadier, and I don't think AP is prioritising this position for a loan.
Sour Mash Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 (edited) A lot of tough (sliding) tackling but not one was two footed. Always slid in with one foot planted. Must be my ever worsening eye-sight lol! Still think he went to ground and dived in a bit too often really, probably splitting hairs now, as I do rate him. Edited 21 September, 2009 by Sour Mash
SaintDonkey Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Whilst I appreciate everything KD has done for Saints and the fact that he is probably our best player, I feel that Hammond would be a more effective on field captain for the team. I was thinking the same myself - keep Kelvin as club captain, but as matchday captain I don't think a goalkeeper is ideal.
corsacar saint Posted 22 September, 2009 Posted 22 September, 2009 It is a pity that we do not have Dean Hammond x3 in midfield.
Red&White Posted 22 September, 2009 Posted 22 September, 2009 Great signing for us future captain material methinks !
Dig Dig Posted 22 September, 2009 Posted 22 September, 2009 I thought he played really well and his role should be the midfield general. Just feel that him and spiderman end up playing similar roles in the team and our attacking play suffers. I would like to see one of the middle two make more runs into the box so on the rare occasions where we get the ball out wide we at least have more then just Lambert in the there.
John Boy Saint Posted 22 September, 2009 Posted 22 September, 2009 Does anyone else think he runs a bit like Beckham? From row BB in the Chapel during the Captains shake and toss Hammond was prowling around and from there he looked a little like Beattie. Some of his tackling although immense did have me looking at the ref waiting for his reaction, when Dean was finally booked the ref pointed there, there, there, there, there, there, here............ Name?
Saint Charlie Posted 22 September, 2009 Posted 22 September, 2009 Deano, there's only one Deano! Superb so far, a leader on the pitch!
