Channon's Sideburns Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 In case anyone has missed it, the Saints Radio forum is on Solent Live tonight from 7pm - available on FM and live online. You can turn up at the Mike Channon Suite from 6pm (no ticket required, no charge - but max 500 people). Solent are now asking for questions - solent.sport@bbc.co.uk I've sent one concerning the continual absence of Gillett and why we can't seem to take a corner properly (unless Mills takes them). Fill your boots guys and gals..

Fill your boots guys and gals.. who would you drop for Gillett then? I think Schneiderlin and Hammond look a solid pair so can't see him replacing either of them.
Roger Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 I am sorry but I don't think gillett is good enough. Think he is too lightweight, never scores or creates any goals and gives the ball away too much. Morgan will come good. I agree that lallana is awful at corners. I am working tonight so does anyone know if I can get it on Internet later tonight?

Have to agree with you on Gillett he is far too light weight and maybe he stood out last year as our team was so poor. I trust Pardew and he must have his reasons for not picking him.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 21 September, 2009 Author Posted 21 September, 2009 yeah they repeated the P*mpey one so ours should be available to listen to again online. Have to agree with you on Gillett he is far too light weight and maybe he stood out last year as our team was so poor. I trust Pardew and he must have his reasons for not picking him. Lightweight? He was one of the only ones last season who tackled! TBH at the moment I'd have him in at RM instead of Lallana - he's certainly not more lightweight than him. Given that Lallana is talented, I feel he would be best used as an impact sub for the time being. Papa Waigo did more running at defenders in his 20 minutes than Lallana did all game. TBF to Lallana he obviously isn't comfortable with his position on the right, but when it comes down to it (and looking to his future) if he wants to progress further than Saints, he is going to be asked to play in positions where he may not be comfortable. Lloyd James and Surman both played out of position and gave it their all - even progressing as players as a result. It's all about application - some on here dreaming about Lallana getting given a 'free role' are, well, dreaming. Can't see a free role developing anytime soon in Pards' system I'm afraid.
Colinjb Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Really looking forward to this tonight, will be extremely interested in Pards and Cortese's thoughts regarding our continuing improvement.
saint_bert Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Gutted I'm missing it. I had my beer in the ground speech all set up and all!!
St Marco Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 The times i have seen Gillet this season he has been pretty awful. Be nice to know what area's Pardew thinks need to be strengthend and if anyone will be coming in on loan.
sussexsaint Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Can someone how long they think it will be before we see Murty back in the 1st squad again and how bad Thomas' injury is as he seemed to be struggling on Saturday - many thanks
S-Clarke Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Can someone how long they think it will be before we see Murty back in the 1st squad again and how bad Thomas' injury is as he seemed to be struggling on Saturday - many thanks Pardew said on the OS last week - should be training within 3 weeks.
Saint_John Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 It is interesting to hear other people views on the 2 central midfield players. I thought we were poor in this area on Saturday and have gone "backward" from the improvement we have seen in the last couple of home games. What i expect to see at this level is :- (When we have the ball) (1) Is for the player to supports the front two with short passes to feet; (2) Makes runs BEYOND the front 2 down the inside right/left channels; (3) Bring the wide midfield players into the game rather than being struck out on the wing; (4) Make driving runs with the ball into the space between midfield and the forwards etc. etc. (When we don't have the ball - anything from 40% to 60% of the time) To be closing down to the opposition central midfield, either close enough to tackle or at least close enought to stop them putting their foot on the ball and getting their head up to pick a pass. As i said I thought we had gone backwards in this area on Sat and i fail to see what others see in Morgan. He never makes any runs BEYOND the forwards, he never RUNS WITH the ball into the space between midfield and forwards. He first option for a pass is usually to look square to the full back. He is usually 5 or 6 yards away from the person he is expected to mark in midfield which means our wide midfield players are always "tucking in" to do his defensive work for him. He might be a better player at a different level but I only see him as a "one trick" player who only ever attempts the 40 yard square pass to the fullback on the other wing, and when that pass is not on he usually has the ball taken off him. IMO James and Gillett (Ajax game) have BOTH played that role far better this season than Morgan.

I think this is better on a different thread as this is about tonites forum and will be interesting to hear Mr Lowe's letter writer in action again ;-) I don't agree about your thoughts about our midfield 2 on Saturday - Hammond was the best player on the pitch IMO. He was everywhere and if he could finish some of the chances that come his way we will have a superb player. Our problem on Saturday was that we didn't have anyone for Morgan to pass to....Lambert was heavily marked - Saga was next to useless and we had no width for Morgan to ping the ball wide to. I watched Lallana for about 10 minutes before half-time and he was tucked in behind Lambert or in the centre and offering no width at all. James spent most of the first half camped in front of Thomas and the only crosses that came in were from about 10 yards inside their half and so easy to defend against. We are far too narrow and have no room to play.
hypochondriac Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 I'm going to try and ask it but if I don't could someone ask for me: Portsmouth have stated their intention to bid for the England world cup games. Due t our administration this was not possible at the time. Will this be something we will be looking into or is it now too late to be considered?
trousers Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Q: Who is the current SFC finance director?
Channon's Sideburns Posted 21 September, 2009 Author Posted 21 September, 2009 Q: Who is the current SFC finance director? Has Teflon gone then? I thought I saw him drive into SMS on Saturday?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Would somebody please be able to give a summary of what was said on here later as I am at work... Thanks in advance.
iansums Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Q. Why is Steve McManaman about to be appointed Director of Football? :
modern matron Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Q. Why is Steve McManaman about to be appointed Director of Football? : Seriously someone ask about DOF role....
modern matron Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 .......and ask AP why we lack width and struggle get to the byelines to cross BACK to Rickie Lambert and co. Any chance of a winger on loan?
trousers Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Has Teflon gone then? I thought I saw him drive into SMS on Saturday? I've no idea...but hidden in your answer is the reason I was pondering... ;-)
Lord Duckhunter Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 I would like to know about the scouting network and if it's being rebuilt. It's obvious that it was a shambles last year, witness Pulis, Forecast and Molyneux. Is Pards happy with it now, and if not, when will a proper one be in place?

He also looked stronger than when i have seen him before.
ladysaint Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 With the players we have we should be winning the Championship but struggling to play any decent football in L1. When can we expect to be entertained and when we play away from home could we play for a win please and not go looking for a point.
dune Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 typical. trying to listen online and it's not on. anyone got a link that works?
Saint_Jonny Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Looking forward to this, just to hear from the men at the top rather than the playing staff, will be good to know some of there thoughts after the first few months.
Saint_Jonny Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 typical. trying to listen online and it's not on. anyone got a link that works? are they not playing it online? ****!

Brussels Saint Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Cant believe it works, I was sure us overseas fans would get some guy called Roger Day online....but actually the football......must be because Marcus is listening too ;-)
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Working in Winchester too! Q. Which way should you go at penalties then, Kelvin? A. The RIGHT way! :-0

the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 AP thinks it would be "tough" to get promotion this year ...
gaz Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 AP thinks it would be "tough" to get promotion this year ... but not impossible.
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 AP can see Morgan S as brilliant one match, not involved other times ....
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 but not impossible. I'm just relating what they say at the Forum, not giving my own opinion. :-)
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Nic Cortese - we want to give the club back to the fans
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Nicola and Markus "excited" by venture
Brussels Saint Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 NC saying he and Marcus dont own the club, just the custodians.......its the fans who really own it...............I'm filling up!
Thedelldays Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 NC saying he and Marcus dont own the club, just the custodians.......its the fans who really own it...............I'm filling up! saying all the right things I see
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 my comment - can no-one pronounce the word STATISTIC? :-) Both Kel Davis and Nic Cortese has mispronounced already :-)
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Mrs Davis made the decision that Kelvin should stay with us! Good for you, Mrs Davis. :-)
red&white56 Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 AP said that his intent this season is to give the team "identity", that he's only just getting to know that players and from there to develop the team's identity. He doesn't rule out the possibility of promotion, but that's not a goal, perhaps just a possibility.
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 KD didn't really want to be No2 to Robert Green at West Ham, so when he had the call that the Saints deal was signed .. he wanted to stay (then he phoned his wife!) woo hoo
the saint in winchester Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 AP keeps calling him CALvin .... it's KELvin, Alan!!!
St Marco Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Think they all coming across very well, some really good questions being asked. Interesting that Nicola say's statistically we are the 15th biggest club in England. Think what Pardew say's about people like Lallana and Davis should be wanting to achieve things not sit on the bench at a club higher up etc.. is totally spot on.
SaintDonkey Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Nearly lost Lallana to a Premiership side - AP talked him out of it by the sounds of it.
S-Clarke Posted 21 September, 2009 Posted 21 September, 2009 Adam was very close to joining PL Club - but AP sat down with him and said ''What do you want to do? Sit in the reserves for 2 seasons? Go out on loan?'' ''You have the chance to win a league title here, how brilliant would that be, this early in your career?''
