Fitzhugh Fella Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 No one thinks that. There was quite a roar when he came on
callysaint76 Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 He was rapid! Fastest player since Theo, although thats not too difficult.
Saint Charlie Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 There was quite a roar when he came on Because the fans (most anyway) are excited by him. He is a bit different to what we have and judging by his cameo looks exactly what we need. Its fine to be excited about a player, afterall isnt that why we go to football matches? Pardew is handling him well but there is every reason to be excited by him. Nobody thinks he is Ronaldo but he looks a good player for this level.
Third Division South Days Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I thought that for the last 20 minutes after the double substition we played the most attacking positive football of the match,
revolution saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I guess this thread is here to give the people who'd normally moan about not winning something to talk about? I didn't go today but I think he's a god - seeing as how the OP started this thread without seeing him either I'd say my opinion is equally as valid....
saint_stevo Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I guess this thread is here to give the people who'd normally moan about not winning something to talk about? I didn't go today but I think he's a god - seeing as how the OP started this thread without seeing him either I'd say my opinion is equally as valid.... Yawn
Deanovski Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 i think he looked class above anything we have based on what we saw, if he can produce that 90 minutes week in week out then well he will be bloody good.
revolution saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 Yawn And you'd agreed to shut up if we won...yawn indeed! What are you moaning about now? Nappy soiled?
saint_stevo Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 And you'd agreed to shut up if we won...yawn indeed! What are you moaning about now? Nappy soiled? No moaning from my end
crouchi Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 So much better than anything else we've got - immediately pushed play upfield where it should have been in the previous 70 minutes. Not proved himself yet, but bags of potential and the ability to run into space and make room for Lambert, who spent most of his time in midfield
barney Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 Decent debut, optimistic about his future appearances.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 My god Papa was quick. Once he stops getting caught off side,he will be awesome.
Toomer Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I only hope it is not another Rudi Skacel situation when the hype is better than the player, but lets give him a bit of time to settle before we judge him.
latter day saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 My god Papa was quick. Once he stops getting caught off side,he will be awesome. my thoughts exactly! just wot we have been asking for, pace & the ability to run at defenders. lifted the crowd when he came on
Saintandy666 Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 My dad said he looked a class above everyone else on first appearance. He said he was much faster than anyone else, and yes he got caught offside, but he said it was by a whisker and he can adapt. I am very optimistic tbh.
sotonjoe Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 i didn't think he showed much of a good touch tbh, didn't really try to turn the defenders either, he just tried to leg it all the time.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I think it is very worrying that he was being caught offside so easily. Is he not aware defenders in this country push up at every opportunity? Silly booking to give away as well and whilst I appreciate he may not understand language does he not understand a whistle? That said he looked keen and was probably too eager to impress hence his apparent lack of concentration. Defintely a better option to partner Lambert than Saganowski on pace alone but did he not have a touch of the BWP's about him? I wouldn't agree that he is a class above anything we've got (Better than JaidI??) and if you can't think about the offside rule the advantage of his pace is largely negated. Hopefully, Pardew will explain it to him on Monday morning.
Deanovski Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 he ****ed all over defenders and im sure alot of his "offsides" were crap decisions.
Micky Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 he ****ed all over defenders and im sure alot of his "offsides" were crap decisions. I thought all of his offsides were called wrong, I wasn't within 1000 miles of SMS at the time, but like others I'm allowed an opinion...!
musesaint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 They all looked good decisions to me (like the 'handball' ). For most of them he was at least a couple of yards offside. Agree And whatever people are saying that handball was a penalty ..the lino was spot on IMHO .....as were his offside decisions with Papa
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 he ****ed all over defenders and im sure alot of his "offsides" were crap decisions. I was in line for most of them and we are talking in yards not feet or inches. Pardew wasn't shaking his head at the lino's decisions but the fact he has signed a player who doesn't think about the game. I wonder what they'll be doing in training next week?
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 Agree And whatever people are saying that handball was a penalty ..the lino was spot on IMHO .....as were his offside decisions with Papa Absolutely and the one where Papa was flagged offside when he reached the ball in the chapel/itchen corner it was when the ball was played though he was miles off half way inside their half but his pace got him to the ball in the corner. To be fair the lino didn't give it because he couldn't be sure Papa was interfering or a Yeovil player would reach it first. When he made it the lino had no choice and to a chorus of abuse for one of many obvious decisions.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I thought all of his offsides were called wrong, I wasn't within 1000 miles of SMS at the time, but like others I'm allowed an opinion...! You are Micky but on this occassion you are 100% wrong!
Deanovski Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 he was clearly pretty good today and looked threatening and im not saying your allowed an opinion but out of every member here it was obv you were going to slate him.
RonManager Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 You are Micky but on this occassion you are 100% wrong! From that distance, parallax and the curvature of the earth may cause an optical illusion phenomena to occur.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 From that distance, parallax and the curvature of the earth may cause an optical illusion phenomena to occur. Seemed to occur about 3 rows in front of me as well, bizarre.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 he was clearly pretty good today and looked threatening and im not saying your allowed an opinion but out of every member here it was obv you were going to slate him. So saying he looks a far better prospect as a partner for Lambert than Saganowski is slating him is it? Or we're you talking about the linesman as he has a good game to.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 So what if he gets caught offside a few times? Most of them were marginal. Pippo Inzaghi has spent his whole career being slated for this and he's not done too badly out of it!
greg_hill Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 The person who called you a knob is clearly wrong, and you should pay no attention to him. It is obvious that you are anatomy of the more feminine variety.
Micky Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 You are Micky but on this occassion you are 100% wrong! Ahhh well, it ain't the first, and it won't be the last time. Perhaps my opinion was clouded by Red and White bias, which given it was our first win of the season, is forgivable. Next time - I will endeavour to perhaps submit a more informed opinion - or perhaps just keep my gob shut...!
Micky Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 The person who called you a knob is clearly wrong, and you should pay no attention to him. It is obvious that you are anatomy of the more feminine variety. Right site...? Right thread...? Right planet even...?

It is obvious that you are anatomy of the more feminine variety. Good evening Greg, who are you referring to as pudenda? That's from the latin pudeo (be ashamed). Please don't be.
Smirking_Saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I was at the game. TBF he showed a lot of promise, he has pace, unpridictability and is keen to make an impression (havin shots and taking on players) His touch is not great however, shown when he was given the ball from a throw in only to 'control' it to the other team, but then, beattie could control a ball further than most could kick it !!! It's too early to pass utmost judgement guys, IMO he was not teh greatest footballer in the world but has promise, unpredictability and wants to take on and score goals. IMHO, he is the best foil for lambert we have at the club ATM
chrisobee Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 he ****ed all over defenders and im sure alot of his "offsides" were crap decisions. Was thinking the same, with his pace I doubt many of the poor linesmen we seem to get would have a clue. Anyway, it is really pathetic to judge him so soon. So many overseas players take time to settle even in the PL.
Smirking_Saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 So what if he gets caught offside a few times? Most of them were marginal. Pippo Inzaghi has spent his whole career being slated for this and he's not done too badly out of it! Have to agree with this, had many a coach tell me that they would rather i was caught offside then not involved at all. Shows that you are keen, moving in the right direction and on the defenders shoulders. Many quick players get caught offside. Did you know that Rooney is currently the most caught offside player in the Prem ?? Playing upfront is all about gambling, gamble on the bounce, the offside, a mistake. A gamble is a gamble, but sometimes it pays off, and if that is a goal, it means riches.

IMHO, he is the best foil for lambert we have at the club ATM Fair assessment and as I said he was probably a bit 'hyped up' when he came on looking like a tightly coiled spring. When he settles into it and gets a few games under his belt I'm sure the promise will shine through.

When he settles into it and gets a few games under his belt I'm sure the promise will shine through. I hope so, just hope that the lack of english does not hamper him. I think his unpredictability could be a revelation in this league, he does remind me of Kodak (camara) in which i think there will be times you will think to yourself 'what the f are you doing?' Then there will be a moment of excellence. But we will see, he caused problems today, something i have not really seen this season. I just wish Lallana was so direct.

Must admit I have been a fierce critic of Lallana this season but I thought he had a better game today (still not great but better) but as you say he is poor at getting forward and providing some width, support and delivery to the forwards. If Papa playing means a bit part role for Saganowski then I'm happy as for all his improved effort and industry today he has been poor for us for 2 seasons and if he can get in the Polish squad then no wonder they won't qualify for the World Cup.
Matthew Le God Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 He was rapid! Fastest player since Theo, although thats not too difficult. Nathan Dyer is faster than Theo
Smirking_Saint Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 Must admit I have been a fierce critic of Lallana this season but I thought he had a better game today (still not great but better) but as you say he is poor at getting forward and providing some width, support and delivery to the forwards. If Papa playing means a bit part role for Saganowski then I'm happy as for all his improved effort and industry today he has been poor for us for 2 seasons and if he can get in the Polish squad then no wonder they won't qualify for the World Cup. Saga just seemed so poor for me today, i have missed the past couple of games, he put in a little industry but seemed when it really mattered (Lamberts flick ons and couple of through balls) he was flat footed. The game just passed by him unfortunately, the defence looked for him when ricky was not available but he just has not the pace to make an impact. IMO, Saga is a great box player, but offers little when the chances are not being made, and so i don't think he fits into our tactics. Lallana, on the other hand, has his critics, i can understand that. But the boy is such an enigma, he is not really a striker, not a midfielder and not a winger. But has such a fantastic touch and offers a touch of magic ! But where do you play him ?? The way i see football is that it is all about balance, and so, magical or not, if it is not balanced, he would not play in my system, such as the square pegs for square holes analogy. I'd like to think i have a decent understanding of the game, perhaps i do, perhaps i do not, but that is opinion. Mills balanced the game out for us, Lallana did look better on the right, at least more comfortable, the problem at left mid was that you could see him drifting in field, causing problems defensively and also conjesting the midfield. I think he could do well playing off of Ricky, but you would have to stamp out his tendancy of coming in field to get the ball, which is when you need to ask yourself, for the good of the team should you sacrifice him ?? IMO, i would play him RM and mills LM, with Papa and lambert upfront, but then football is a game of opinions and favourites. The main thing is we won !! But then, how many bad games will we win this season ??
Smirking_Saint Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 Nathan Dyer is faster than Theo Papa was nowhere near as quick as either !
hypochondriac Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 There was quite a roar when he came on And? I'm pleased that we're supporting players for a change. Long may it continue.
shurlock Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 Enjoyed AP's reaction when Papa got booked for dumming and going past the keeper. Had a wry, wry smile.
up and away Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 Because the fans (most anyway) are excited by him. Pardew is handling him well but there is every reason to be excited by him. Nobody thinks he is Ronaldo but he looks a good player for this level. I am excited by him and that may well be misplaced. Because without someone who is that little bit different, I am finding it really difficult as to how we would get any further than mid table. And please no one mention Saga, high marks for style but little for substance. Yep, he did get the penalty but thanks there belong to the Yeovil defender. Lallana will do it occasionally and Mills or Holmes may step up.
Deanovski Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 just when you thought he was stuck between 2 defenders hed just turn and run and gets past them.
alpine_saint Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 Your so negative FFS. It is people like you, Alpine and TDD that are ruining this club, we nearly didn't have a club to support don't you know, and dont get me started on the -10...... So now my name gets dragged into the discussion and I get slated even when I've condemned the thread. Sweet...
Thedelldays Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 To be fair. It is only fair to judge him after a couple of games and at least a start at home Doing so (according to st marco) means you are a **** for some reason
chrisobee Posted 20 September, 2009 Posted 20 September, 2009 So now my name gets dragged into the discussion and I get slated even when I've condemned the thread. Sweet... Your reputation preceeds you After 10,000+ posts you surely know how this board works by now!
Draino76 Posted 20 September, 2009 Author Posted 20 September, 2009 The person who called you a knob is clearly wrong, and you should pay no attention to him. It is obvious that you are anatomy of the more feminine variety. Rubbish. For example; one night in Bangkok is supposed to make even hard men humble. I on the other hand had a fivesiome on my 1st night. Simples.
