Come on own up, your not really how your coming over..... its just an act you do for attention.

Bloody good result, winning and not playing well.. good sign... no goal against, without the minus 10 would be mid table.. squad is unrecognisable from 6 weeks ago.

Like any one but the few negative morons that come on here it was obvious things will take time but in the last 6 weeks i have felt for the first time in years that we are in competent hands and moving forward.

Doesnt mean i think we will be promoted this season [but i can hope] and even if we lose next week [but hopefully not] i will still feel the same.

If that makes me a happy clappy so be it, id rather be that than one of the few dull idiots that can only pick out whats wrong.

Looking forward to one of the likely suspects insults. [come on you know who you are]

You are fully entitled to your opinion and will not be insulted by me.

you clueless ****;)

Not the most convincing of performances but I'd settle for a lot more of those along with 3 points each time. Defence looked good generally, as did the central spine - Hammond and Lambert. Felt sorry for Lambert - winning everything but not much support, no-one really chasing thorough on all those flick ons.

Still seemed to be a bit of hesitation and nerves - we desperately need some confidence, but its getting there.

Compare this with 3 months ago and were probably doing OK :)

A win is a win, the goals will start flowing in now. Just need Saga to start scoring now, the two goals will give Lambo some extra confidence. Would love to see Holmes in the team soon though!

Well much needed 3 points but 2 very very poor decisions by the referee.

Probably the worst we have played this season too.

Jaidi looked solid but tired pretty quickly, he also gave away far too many fouls, Trottman had a good game, Thomas puts us in the Sh*t far too often, didn't think Harding had his best game today, he didn't pick up the men enough but then Lallana does not offer anything defensive down the left.

Hammond played very well, great battler and is up and down, Shneiderlin, who IMO is only there for his passing ability, could not hit a cows ass today, he was very very poor. Lallana always looks like he can make something happen but lacks defensive awareness and is not happy on his left foot. James battled pretty well.

Lambert looked strong, won many flick ons, held the ball up well, does not quite cause enough problems though for me, Saga looked very poor, especially for a supposed international. He just does not seem to read the game very well at the moment.

Basically, all we seemed like doing today was a hopeful punt up to Lambert, hoping for flick ons, even when trying to get behind the defence Saga just has no pace. We looked better after the subs came on because it seemed as if we were balanced for once, Mills gave us a left footed option and Papa chased around the back 4 trying to win things, although he didn't look fantastic.

Anyways, here is my assessment.

Davis - 6 - Dealt with what he had to, didn't really need to do much.

Thomas - 6 - Gave the ball away too much, didn't look bad defensively

Trottman - 7 - Dominated at the back, struck a good partnership with Jaidi, pointless yellow.

Jaidi - 7 - Solid, got stuck in, did give away some pointless fouls.

Harding - 6 - Looked ok, struggled when doubled up upon by their right flank.

Hammond - 8 - All over the place, great battler, probably should have been booked earlier.

Shneiderlin - 5 - Terrible today, terrible with the ball and without it. Put in some running, but is their to make the play...... he didn't

James - 6 - Tidy display, nothing spectacular, played best in CM.

Lallana - 6 - Promises much, delivered not a lot, defensively lacking, dived for penalty.

Lambert - 7 - Played well, 2 great penalties, won the headers when needed.

Saga - 4 - Static, game passed him by, he won't make the world cup like this.

Subs

Mills - 6 - Gave us width and balance.

Papa - 6 - Lot of running, at least he had a couple of shots, must have been offside 53 times in 10 minutes. Dunno if he is a footballer or not yet, too early to judge.

Wotton - 7 - Can't fault him today, came on, mopped up, sured up.

and the one against Northampton (ok in the cup but still..)

i think he's lost his argument now. ;)

I thought he was implying that no goals scored from open play today,i stand corrected if so.

But in saying that, if we had not scored anything from open play against a really poor, infact weakened Yeovil side due to losing their keeper and who's replacement had never played in the first team before plus other first teamers missing then that would be poor....oh.

Enjoyed the game, a lot of positives - not least the win.

Goals were from penalties but we were more killing the game ( a good new thing) than really going for it once we were 2-0 up, so not too concerned.

Defence deserves special mention.

Personally from the little we have seen of him Papa could work well with LAmbert, he clearly needs someone to run off and he started to show signs off this today. Plus we now have decent competetion for places up front. Yes we scored from 2 pens today, but forgive me if I'm wrong, I thought you had to be in the box to get a pen? At the end od the season a goal is a goal is a goal, I'll take any of them.

3 points are 3 points, some people on here are still moaning. No goals from open play who really cares, clean sheet and 2 goals is all that anyone will remember. Oh and Pompey lost again. When do we start feeling sorry for them.

Just back from the match. Bit dull, I have to say, although I'd overdressed, had a couple of pints, and it was quite humid and warm. Hence my ever-so-slightly drooping eyelids. Plus points were that the defence were hardly ever troubled, and I mean ever. Even though the Yeovil attack tried to put themselves about, the Saints defence coped very well. We all got a wee bit anxious in the Kingland/Northam corner, for about 15 minutes, as we saw Thomas hobbling around, trying to shake off an injury, and still trying to play. But Yeovil didn't take advantage. And that was about it. Marek did a beautiful collapse right in front of us, in the first half, which completely took the referee in, and we somehow got a second penalty on 59 minutes. 2-0 looks good, and I'll certainly take it, but it was nothing special. Saga chased a lot, but didn't look like scoring. Ricky Lambert took his penalties well, and Papa came on and actually took people on, which cheered the crowd no end. When Saints attack, the midfield is very slow to back up, and nobody tries for the byline anyway, which would give them time. On this peformance, Saints look a difficult team to beat, but they'll also find it hard to win.

The crowd were loud though, so good for them.

I agree with most of your points apart from the above. Morgan was very unfortunate to be taken off today I thought. He was clearly up for it which I haven't seen from him before and he played some lovely football at times. When he puts the effort it, it's clear he could play at a higher level and he showed that at times today.

As for Saga, he didn't do a great deal but he certainly wasn't static. He tried hard today. Okay so he didn't achieve much, but you can't accuse him of not putting the effort in.

Otherwise you're pretty much spot on IMO :)

So,what i can deduce from the match reports thus far,we were far from impressive, struggled to create chances, lot's of huffing and puffing but too no avail.

Generally a poor match and poor performance.

We look difficult to beat however, which is a bonus.

Musn't grumble,we were playing Yeovil.

Morgan played okay I thought. We were carrying James and lallana and for me jaidi was mom class above. Defence is very good but rest of team isn't great, need holmes and papa at start

Jaidi and Trotman worry me. Both way to keen to win everything and Jaidi especially today was beaten too the ball a few times by there big centre forward. A few games to become match fit and he'll probably be better.

Morgan was pure class today. Apart from two bad passes he was a touch above everyone on the pitch.

Thought Spiderman put a lot of running in but it just didn't seem to come off for him, he doesn't tackle well, he doesn't really support the strikers well, he just sits and plays the ball around, you can tell he definately has talent, some of his balls were brilliant, but he would then needlessly give the ball away.

Saga did a bit of running, but seemed flat footed when someone attempted to play him in behind the defence. He didn't really chase out to the flanks and is just too slow. Of course IMO.

Thats why i love football, it's all opinions !!

Holmes the player whose reputation grows by not playing.

First time this season where we look like developing a winning mentality, the "they shall not pass " attitude at the back is the first sign, followed by Hammond knowing when it is prudent to foul NOT pretty but we need that more than fancy keepie uppy players.

Bit concerned about Papa and offside rule and Saga's game which goes nowhere at present

True. Although you could say that about every Saints player at the moment

Our passing in the final third today did leave a little to be desired. Lallana, Saga and James especially.

Pleased with the win but we need to play better to keep winning.

Why is it so wrong to point it out? We won't get 2 penalties every week.

And don't presume that anyone who points this out is all doom and gloom, negative, against the team etc. I'm sure AP knows we will have to improve as well.

Disagree myself. I thought Morgan had one of his poorer game for us. Never looked convincing and precise with his passing.

Didn't think we played particularly well but like many say, a win is a win and personally I would have taken any kind of win as it gets the confidence flowing in the team. Back four quite solid again, Hammond had a good game again chasing Yeovil down and Lambert looked good in the air and on the ground. Papa also looked good when he came on.

Loved the chant 'Your only here for the boat show' in the Northam.

Can enjoy my evening now and roll on Carlisle

What a beautiful day.

Warm and sunny....and the first league win for 5 months and 6 days.

I'm off to Notts tonight for an all night free party.

Rave on kids!

Saga didnt offer much and Lambert and Papa looked a much better partnership. I liked how direct Papa was, running at and commiting defenders with his pace. Once the others get used to his runs he will be a potent weapon! Special mentions to Lambert, who showed class with every touch and Hammond who was everywhere and offers a lot defensively+ in attack. I would make him captain, nothing against Davis but to have an outfield player leading on the pitch!

A great win and one we deserved. Like others a little concerned we didn't score from open play. Papa W had our first shot on target I think when he first came on - that's just not good enough whichever way you dice it. BUT - nothing will stop me savouring a win and hoping that the tide has now turned - this is the start of the climb upwards....the start of the rebirth of Saints as a successful football club.

Wow, someone else who thinks all our problems lie in midfield.

Excellent..:)

So glad to have finaly won. Hope Thomas is ok and can shake off his knock. I have this feeling that when we finally 'click' we are going to be an awesome team. Onwards and upwards. Lets hope we get into the positives before poopy lol

Two schools of thought here, I am in the Morgan played well and IMHO Hammond should have gone off. I thought he was poor today. On his debut he was always looking for the ball and looked good. Today I thought the game went on around him. That doesn't mean I think he is a poor player just had a poor game!

I thought we looked better balanced with Mills, and what a good free kick from him for Jiadi's header.

If Papa continues to attack players when he gets the ball he will terrify this league.

the good news is that we are improving

Hammond was awesome.

We always knew that the midfield needed strengthening, but we didn't have enough pre-season to rebuild the entire team.

I really don't want Thomas in the team - he is solid and looks ok going forward, but he mostly just hoofs it and gives away possession, and he is far too reckless in his challenges.

Waigo actually RAN DOWN THE CHANNELS when he got the ball, THANK. F*CK.

3 points!!! at 5 to 3 as i was coming into the Itchen as WGS was entering the fenced off bit infront of the stadium with 2 blondes on his arm and a rather fetching cardigan, some drunk guy was splutting some abuse at him asking how his dodgy hip was and calling him a tosser when he didnt reply (after about the 3rd time he quite vocially asked), unbelievable.

The game was a good result, no one did ****, hammond was everywhere, cant remember ricky giving the ball away, defence was solid and Jaidi made it look effortless, 2 soft penalties (deffo for the second one) in my opinion, but it's nice to see them go our way for once and ricky took them very well :)

When we started to pass the ball around morgan came into it and looked excellent, however the directness that we've had in League One passes him by, as it does most of our midfield oddly enough, the posession football we had in the second half when we were cheering every pass was nice to see return to st marys Yoevil didnt have an answer for it

I Witnessed the Yoof after the game too, as we were walking towards st marys street and the crossroads some blues and two's sounded off, loads of kids vaulted the railings by king alfs thinking something was afoot then as the swarm moved towards the crossroads set upon some large chap for what from 4-5 metres (and increasing!) away appeared to be for no other reason than because he was there, Saints hitting fellow Saints, disgraceful.

Only real negative for me is the corners. Can noone but llanna take them? We never seem to capitalise on them

Mills took some good corners today when he nicked the ball off Lallana

Forgot to mention, something that really p*ssed me off.

After Mills had put the first two corners in and they had looked really dangerous, Lallana had a little hissy fit and the next corner we won he ran straight over to him and (it looked like) he was demanding to take it.

(The subsequent corner was sh*t, held up in the air and to the back post like every other f*cking time).
