J Bizzle Posted 18 September, 2009 Posted 18 September, 2009 :smt039 Which part of Briz? Also train is much easier.
RonManager Posted 18 September, 2009 Posted 18 September, 2009 Should be no more than 2 hours from Bristol via Westbury and Salisbury by train. I do it from Taunton by train - 1030 off Taunton - change Westbury, 1215 into Southampton £20 return.
Arizona Posted 18 September, 2009 Author Posted 18 September, 2009 :smt039 Which part of Briz? Also train is much easier. Haven't decided yet. Train is about the same journey time and price for one person alone, but I guess you can drink more. Point taken. Edit: Ron - apparently it's £26 return on a Saturday. None-stop from Temple Meads to Central.

Yeah it's a good service, very rarely delayed, but sometimes full after Salisbury depending on whether its 2 or 3 coaches.

Arizona Posted 18 September, 2009 Author Posted 18 September, 2009 they speak funny in brizzle Not 'arf as funny as the sweaties.
Wilko Posted 18 September, 2009 Posted 18 September, 2009 10.20ish from Bristol Temple Meads is the usual service. Gets in at about midday. Our small group doesn't tend to go to many home games any more, not many games at all, now I think about it. However, I'm sure you'll see bungle getting on at Bath.
benjii Posted 18 September, 2009 Posted 18 September, 2009 I am there now. I don't want to share a car though. But thanks for the offer.

Why, does he have a distinguishing feature?
RonManager Posted 18 September, 2009 Posted 18 September, 2009 I normally pick up that train at Westbury - all the obvious Saints fans look quite ordinary, almost generic!
Kadeem Hardison Posted 18 September, 2009 Posted 18 September, 2009 :smt039 Which part of Briz? Also train is much easier. The train is only for council estate scum.
TheSaint75 Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 The train is only for council estate scum. LOL.....what about 1st class?
Huffton Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 Why, does he have a distinguishing feature? Yes, he's a 6 foot talking bear.

Yate Saint Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 I have not got much of an Bristolian accent. Thank fooook. WE WON A GAME.
forever a red and white Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 having to train it from cardiff now thanks to uni, although limited to matches due to funds
Charlie2008 Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 Sometimes am staying in Bath and would be up for sharing petrol costs, as and when. Have no wheels currently so normally rely on trains. Quite a good service but make sure you take your own tinnies! Buffet is priced for a captive audience!
bungle Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 Just buy advance fares. Buy all my tickets in advance and do Bath to Soton for £6 return most Saturday games.
The Rover Posted 19 September, 2009 Posted 19 September, 2009 having to train it from cardiff now thanks to uni, although limited to matches due to funds At least you're not missing matches because you're doing any of that nasty part time work thing on Saturdays to earn money then?
Arizona Posted 9 March, 2010 Author Posted 9 March, 2010 Any Bristolians fancy a trip to the MK game on the 20th?
Wilko Posted 9 March, 2010 Posted 9 March, 2010 Any Bristolians fancy a trip to the MK game on the 20th? You driving?
ladysaint Posted 9 March, 2010 Posted 9 March, 2010 I love the stop at Westbury anyone been in the little club opposite the station reminds me of something out of the Wheeltappers & Shunters etc, but they are always very welcoming when we pop in there for a few beers.
Rory Posted 9 March, 2010 Posted 9 March, 2010 Hate Westbury, hate trains, hate the Taunton to Temple Meads line, hate the Temple Meads to Portsmouth Harbour line.
benjii Posted 10 March, 2010 Posted 10 March, 2010 The area around Bradford on Avon is quite beautiful.
irishsaint83 Posted 10 March, 2010 Posted 10 March, 2010 I usually get the train - Bristol to Southampton - the 9:23am one, if my flight is a little late i get the 10:23am one. Will be on one of them this saturday for the leeds game - usually fly dublin to bristol (hell of a lot cheaper that dublin southampton)

Similarly it's always cheaper for me to get a train to Cardiff from Southampton and fly bmibaby to Malaga than it is to fly from Southampton to Malaga even if I get the flybe flights the second they're released.
Arizona Posted 10 March, 2010 Author Posted 10 March, 2010 Welcome Arizona. Sure you will enjoy the area. I've been here 6 months, but thank you anyway.

Will be on one of them this saturday for the leeds game - usually fly dublin to bristol (hell of a lot cheaper that dublin southampton) Dublin to Bournemouth (ryanair) is generally much cheaper, and closer to southampton. €10 each way last time I did it, which was a week ago.
ByTheGolacs Posted 10 March, 2010 Posted 10 March, 2010 I'm now based in Street, Somerset (having emigrated from Yorkshire and starting life in Lymington) - go to about 1/2 the home games and 1/4-1/3 of away games and drive myself and my son. Happy to offer the spare seats in my car to anyone in return for a pie and a pint (maybe a kit-kat and coke for the lad ;-) Can't promise it'll be every week but happy to give my email address to anyone who wants to PM me
irishsaint83 Posted 11 March, 2010 Posted 11 March, 2010 Dublin to Bournemouth (ryanair) is generally much cheaper, and closer to southampton. €10 each way last time I did it, which was a week ago. Unfortunately, they have f**ked around with flight times and days with Bournemouth - I used to be able to do day trips flying back on an 8pm flight from there - now they don't even fly on a satruday at anytime...... Bristol / Gatwick with ryanair are the only realistic alternatives to flybe - as handy as it is to fly to Southampton, i'd rather save over £100. My flights for the Leeds game to Bristol return cost €20 (inc credit card fee's) and the train, again return booked in advance, £11 - the cheapest I have ever got flybe return to southampton was €108 - currently its €140, so for the sake of a 1hr 40 min train journey, I have an extra £100 to play around with.... (basically I can get to St Marys 3 times for the price of one return flybe flight)
Badger Posted 11 March, 2010 Posted 11 March, 2010 Where's me daps, and get ee out the stingerz? Not all of us speak funny. That made I laugh...as they do say in Bristo.

irishsaint83 Posted 11 March, 2010 Posted 11 March, 2010 So is any one going to be on a train Saturday morning from Bristol then heading to St Marys?

bungle Posted 12 March, 2010 Posted 12 March, 2010 What time? Ill be getting either 9:23 or 10:23 from Bristol.... The 10.23 one (10.36 at Baaaath).
irishsaint83 Posted 12 March, 2010 Posted 12 March, 2010 The 10.23 one (10.36 at Baaaath). Well, if your travelling alone, I might wait and get the 10:23 - a bit of company and a little pre-match chat on how we are going to rip leeds appart?
bungle Posted 12 March, 2010 Posted 12 March, 2010 Sure thing. You'll have to spot me. Usually get on train at very front door.
irishsaint83 Posted 12 March, 2010 Posted 12 March, 2010 Hmm, well I'll have a grey hoodie on (if not too warm) and it has the Saints Crest with "Irish Saints" written under it - if you check out www.irishsaints.ie - the pic in the top left, im the second from the left - not a great pic but should help identify me - ill make sure i sit towards the front of the train so..... maybe see you in the morn then.
