loads of websites i go to now keep trying to get me to upgrade my browser, and its annoying the tits off me

 

so whcih browser should i start using?

 

currently using ie6, never upgraded to ie 7 as i didnt like it, and couldnt work my way round it, and still cant on my daughters machines

 

im running xp, btw

 

i dont do anything fandango with surfing, just the usual stuff, bbc, facebook, youtube, porn, forums, etc

 

but i want something thats starightforward, and where i dont have to relearn the meaning of every command

Try Google Chrome, it's a bit different but easy enough. Much quicker than IE as well.

 

Install a few and see which you prefer. Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome and Opera are the most popular.

Agree, if you want to keep the simples of IE, go for chrome.

Firefox is my favourite but definitely upgrade from ie6. You can get some really nasty viruses using that.

Just leave it. You could have all the above browsers i listed installed

The thing I dont like about firefox is its memory footprint. If I have it running all day itll easily take up over a gb of ram

yeah, can agree with that, although i don't tend to have it running with much else in the background so it does not bother me massively.

 

I know IE uses a lot less but i just don't like it, it's all preference really.

Opera is the way forward.

Its a close call, the split is basically in 3rd, where 10% is taken up by other browsers, then roughtly 30% FF, 30% IE6, 30% IE7

Wouldn't surprise me - IIRC it's the browser that was shipped with XP, and most people just won't bother upgrading.

i think SP3 takes it to IE7, otherwise yeah it comes with 6

I've got it on my work PC solely for testing purposes, along with IE7, IE8, FF2, FF3, FF3.5, Chrome and Safari

I actually didn't mind IE6 too much, then it went to IE7 and just ****ed me off, luckily i had started looking at other browsers at the time and decided that FF was the way forward for me, i have never used opera or safari though.

In google chrome how can I move the bookmarks from the right hand side of the screen to the left hand side please?

I do not like the bookmarks on the RHS so already I am thinking of deleting this chrome thing.

Using IE8 on Windows 7 ultimate, along with Firefox & Opera as comparisons. And i must say its a lot smoother than Firefox, but Opera is about equal thou!

Iv'e just gone with Safari 4,bloody lovely IMO.

 

Really like the 'Top Sites' thing just like the library etc in iTunes.

 

I am having a prob uninstalling Firefox,tried the usual uninstall through control panel and also tried to run c\program files\mozilla firefox\helper.exe as instructed but nothing happens.Won't open,won't uninstall.

Any help appreciated.
