saint_stevo Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Surely too slow for international football....
Saint_Ash Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Good on him. Never going to make it as an England international so why not join his dad's team and maybe get to play in some high profile tournements.
Minsk Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Surely too slow for international football.... Yeh, because Beckham has always been lightening qui....... oh! P.S. Well done on the call-up Jake!
Thedelldays Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Yeh, because Beckham has always been lightening qui....... oh! P.S. Well done on the call-up Jake! what an utterly silly comparison
Mark`` Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 I would have done it. Is clearly never going to get into the england set up
saint_stevo Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Yeh, because Beckham has always been lightening qui....... oh! P.S. Well done on the call-up Jake! It was in response to some comments about him on a different thread. ere- http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=16623&page=2

Apologies for sarcastic response then. what an utterly silly comparison No, it was not an utterly silly comparison as SS did not say anything about skill level, only speed.
Thedelldays Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Ahhh, I see. Apologies for sarcastic response then. No, it was not an utterly silly comparison as SS did not say anything about skill level, only speed. to be fair, I have a hunch old Becks had a little bit of skill and technique up his sleeve...even now at the ripe old age of 34 and well over 100 national caps etc...
a1ex2001 Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 to be fair, I have a hunch old Becks had a little bit of skill and technique up his sleeve...even now at the ripe old age of 34 and well over 100 national caps etc... but as has been pointed out no pace what so ever. I think the dig that was made was more at the general perception on this website that we always need something we haven't got, for ages what we needed was a 20+ goal a season striker then when we got one what we needed was a striker who ran around like a headless chicken which was what we had before. People then moaned about our total lack of mobile centre halves and then once they retired moaned about our lack of hard as nails none shall pass types. The latest phase seems to be moaning about the lack of pace on the wings but then once we've got a few quicks in they will moan about the lack of skill or crossing as they did when dyer was playing.
southamptonfclegend Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 he's absoloutly sh*te... why doesn't he go and clear it off the line when T&T try to score... what a d*ck
Prince Jazzbo Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 I think too many people here are making the assumption that Trinidad and Tobago have access to a vast array of footballing talent and that they surely have better players than Jake Thompson. The fact is they haven't, so any professional in the UK that is eligible to play for them is in with a chance. It's a bit like saying that I'm not good enough to be picked to play for the Faroe Isles, the fact is like the rest of the Faroe Isles squad I am good enough.
del boy Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 he's absoloutly sh*te... why doesn't he go and clear it off the line when T&T try to score... what a d*ck I bet we all wish we were only good enough to play international football
david in sweden Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 http://guardian.co.tt/sports/football/2009/09/16/thomson-stern-convinced-me-play-tt For Trinidad and Tobago Nothing to complain about here.....he's got talent ....for a youngster. He's hardly likely to get anywhere near the senior England squad..so why not. T&T are unlikely to qualify for World Cup again in the near future, and it will please his Dad for sure. Rather as Wales or Northern Ireland recruit anyone with a grandfather from the homeland, Jake can qualify to play international football - even at CONCAF level. Good luck to him.
Bailey Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Sorry to be pedantic, but I wish people would get his name right. It's Jake Thomson, not Thompson!
southamptonfclegend Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 I bet we all wish we were only good enough to play international football .... have you seen him play... he's absoloutley sh*te, obviously didn't see him clear the ball off the line for colchester to stop us scoring did you...
davec Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Idiots should not post on here! The 'miss' being referred to on here was going wide and JT was at full stretch and could not have scored unless he was the height of Peter Crouch. Those who have seen him play in the reserves and youth team know he has ability - admittedly , he has not yet shown his true potential in the first team - but if he is given a proper chance, I am sure he will prove himself! Problem is that too many numpties just want to go to games to moan and end up picking on easy targets ie the young players! They need encouragement and people to give them a chance - the likes of Thomson,Patterson, James and Lallana are the future of this club! If you want to moan at YOUR team , just naff off and go and support the Skates with all the other halfwits! And I hope Jake enjoys his World Cup and comes back with a bit of confidence!!
Causer Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Thomson has barely started his saints career and does not deserve to be written off as useless after only a few games. We should whish him luck with Trinidad and Tobago and hope he develops into a top player instead of abusing a decent talent
skintsaint Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Not really ambitious by him this move....rather take the easy option of international football than graft hard to get international honours with England.
Deanovski Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Not really ambitious by him this move....rather take the easy option of international football than graft hard to get international honours with England. stupid.
ottery st mary Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Thomson another of our great youth players making the grade.....Very ...VERY fast young player..like Lallana and Paterson great players for a bright Saints future....Well done Thomson.
skintsaint Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 stupid. Really? In what way or do you suffer from some sort of tourettes? He might not have talent but a lot of hard work can get you international honours with England. Lots of players have done in the past.
Minsk Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 to be fair, I have a hunch old Becks had a little bit of skill and technique up his sleeve...even now at the ripe old age of 34 and well over 100 national caps etc... I fully agree, but he has never had PACE! but as has been pointed out no pace what so ever. Well said!

He might not have talent but a lot of hard work can get you international honours with England. Lots of players have done in the past. He will be playing for T & T, hardly unambitious to be wanting to play above u19 and u21.

Minsk Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 As for all those having a pop at Jake....... He is a young lad who is currently being utilised in a RM/RW position. He had many outings last season, for the first team and the reserves, in many different positions. The season before that he was primarily used in the youth team and reserves as a CB! Just what do you expect OF A YOUNGSTER who has has not been coached properly for the past couple of years? FWIW I do honestly believe he can become a fairly decent player and wish him all the best of luck, both with us and T&T if he takes up the offer.
skintsaint Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 He will be playing for T & T, hardly unambitious to be wanting to play above u19 and u21. its unamibitious wanting to play for T&T rather than England... Says a lot about his character to me. Thats all.

krissyboy31 Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 its unamibitious wanting to play for T&T rather than England... Says a lot about his character to me. Thats all. He's a young lad who is struggling to hold down a place in the bottom team in League 1. Even if he's the most ambitious person in the world, unless he is incredibly thick, he surely realizes that he is never going to get anywhere near the England team (at least at senior level). Therefore being given a chance to play at that level with T&T is an opportunity he would be daft to turn down. CONCACAF is not the strongest of regions but will still allow him to develop as a player and give him a chance of playing in a major championship (unlike if he went the Scottish or Welsh route). What surprises me is that with all the athletes being developed in the Caribbean these days, why T&T would want him TBH. Good luck to the boy. I say!!
oxfordshire_saint Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 why T&T would want him TBH. Because he's probably better than Chris Birchall
Crowds Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 hes not good enough for league one, hes not good enough for us atm. I say atm! who knows what his future holds, he clearly feels hes not good enough for our england team thats his decision. I just hope he grows as a player as hes let us down thus far! Crowds.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 17 September, 2009 Posted 17 September, 2009 can someone confirm whether JT is actually quick because from what I have seen and heard he is not very quick yet Solent always say he has has lightening pace when commentating? I dont think he is much quicker than Lloyd James which is saying something.
