sad saints fan Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 Seeing as we should have a fairly strong looking team with a couple of new faces tonight I was thinking about maybe taking a drive up to hungerford tonight. Looking on the Swindon website I see it is £3 to get in ,anyone in the sarisbury ,park gate or east side of town fancy sharing the petrol with me,either in my old banger or in another car.
Saint Samuel Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 I'll be there, I'm visiting family in Hungerford, so gonna go along, any idea who is in the squad?
sad saints fan Posted 15 September, 2009 Author Posted 15 September, 2009 waigo, jahidi and holmes should all get a run out according to the echo.Dont think i will bother unless some one else is going to share costs .Just did a route planner and it is 100 mile round trip.
SO16_Saint Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 where the feck is Hungerford? I've heard of it, and sure i've driven by it somewhere, but cant think where it is???

The Fat Controller Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 I'm going as it's only 6 miles from home.. for those coming up you need to come off the A34 and follow signs for the A4 Hungerford. Hungerford is about 7 miles further on. when you come into Hungerford you go over mini roundabout, straight ahead at next roundabout, then left at the next (A338 salisbury) follow this for approx 3/4 mile then you will see the borough pub on the left. Straight ahead at mini roundabout then second turning left, then the ground is then 2nd turning left again (Bulpit Lane). Don't forget it is 7pm kick off

Err- whats the ground like? Is it under cover? The weather looks like being a bit sh*te. Depends - I might consider the journey (and offering a lift) if getting drenched is not involved!

Depends - I might consider the journey (and offering a lift) if getting drenched is not involved! Couple of little grandstands, the rest is just a fence around a pitch! The size of the crowd depends on whether you get wet! I myself will be shunning the Champs League footie on TV and heading down, it's not too far for me. I presume Mr Pardew will be in attendance to run the rule over Papa, Jaidi, Holmes etc first hand, rather than relying on a report from Henderson? Edited 15 September, 2009 by oxfordshire_saint
The Fat Controller Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 I'm based in Aldbourne, so this is a very local game for me and it's raining at the moment so we may get wet tonight

Minsk Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 it looks like the team will be: Forecast Argent - Lancashire - Jaidi - Molyneux Mellis - Pulis - Gillett - Holmes Waigo - Paterson Subs: Dovey, Tafazoli, McNish, Preen, White http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/ReservesNews/0,,10280~1797906,00.html

From south of Tot Hill for 5 miles it's a contraflow and 50mph zone. It's a bum journey, it's raining hard and I have commitments this evening, so for that reason, I'm outttt.
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 I thought Forecast was on loan still? And even if he isnt surely it would make more sense to have Bart so he stays match fit in case he has to come on on saturday.

I don't think the score matters, so much as what are their future(s). Loans out to L1/ L2 / Conference, or a bench place this season. Both goalies have something to prove, and most of the rest are under a cloud one way or another. Argent was supposedly released (?), Lancashire, Pulis, Molyneux, Paterson, Gillett and Mellis need good games even to get on the first team bench. Jaidi and Waigo should get some good match practice...whilst from the youth side; Tafazolli, White, Mc Nish and Preen are all pushing their claims.. but hopefully Lee Homes will find some real form, after a long lay-off, as I think he has most potential for advancement in the first team.

shurlock Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 Happy to see that Pardew is at the game - with mellis, waigo, even gillet scoring - players who are closest to breaking into the first team, lots of 'good' questions being asked.

Saint Charlie Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 Good that Papa, Jaidi and Holmes got good minutes on the pitch and a "debut" goal for Papa will have done his confidence no harm.,

The Fat Controller Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 been to the game, and a few encouraging signs tonight, Jaidi looked solid, Gillett had a good game but picked up a slight knock. Papa was finding his feet a bit but took his goal well after a good move down the left to equalise but no dance! Mellis then scored with a good shot from about 12 yards out. Goal of the night was scored by Gillet after a break from defence involvinmg about 5 or 6 decent passes tore the Swindon defence apart then Gillett shot from 20 yards beating the keeper all ends up. Tafawotsit scored an own goal, before Swindon hit the bar twice. F-T Swindon 2 Saints 3 Mr Pardew was in attendance and must have been pleased with the performances of Sam Argent, Lee Holmes, Jaidi, Papa, & Gillett and should be in contention for saturday. Lee Molyneux was named but didnt start as he picked up an injury.
Bailey Posted 15 September, 2009 Posted 15 September, 2009 Good to see Papa Waigo getting on the scoresheet. Hopefully Gillett impressed the on-looking Pardew too. Interesting that Wotton wasn't included in the squad at all. Considering he's had little game time lately, I would have expected him to play tonight.

Saint Samuel Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Enjoyed the game last night, had a good chat with some of the players after. Papa was a legend, came over to us after the warm down to sign autographs and after some encouragement even did his tradmark dance! Spoke to Gillet as well, he sounded a bit frustrated that he wasn't getting many games for the first team. Also had a quick chat with Forecast, he's hoping to go out on loan again soon.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Saint Samuel said: he's hoping to go out on loan again soon. Let's hope for his sake that there were no prospective takers there last night, he was woeful! I don't like to criticise keepers, as I am one myself, but he just looks devoid of all confidence when he comes for the ball. As Bart is Kelvin's #2, I don't understand why he isn't playing the ressie fixtures, as surely we'd want him sharp if he ever needs to step in for the first team?
andybeal Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Barts injured - he did it in the warm up at Charlton - sat on the bench with his right knee strapped up
Saint Samuel Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 Brighton manager Russell Slade was spotted at the game last night, wonder if he was taking a look at any of our players, or he could've been looking at Swindon, they had a couple of first teamers out as well. Also spotted was Tony Pulis Senior, I'm guessing he was only there to watch his son though.

I saw a miserable looking guy in a baseball cap sipping a pint who looked a bit like him, but didn't look 100% like him and none of the other managers, coaches or scouts in attendance talked to him?

All the other coaches and managers in attendance were happily chatting to eachother though, whilst the man who was apparently Pulis just sat there sipping a plastic pint without saying a word to anyone!
the saint in winchester Posted 16 September, 2009 Posted 16 September, 2009 oxfordshire_saint said: Ah, thanks for clearing that up! Was it Bart or Forecast in for the Salisbury game last week? Actually, it was neither. It was Andrej Pernecki (apologies if name spelt wrongly) in goal last week. Aside from pick the ball out the net the once, he saw us score 6 times the other end ... more than I did after ko time confusion ... so not sure if he is better than Bart and Forecast, or not.
