Got to say, i think we're in for a belter of a post season! It really is anyones in both conferences. I think in the AFC the team to beat are the Chargers. The colts hae let it slip the last couple of weeks and i think they'll regret benching their starters half way through their game with the Jets. Bad call in my opinion. Momentum can prove crucial in these post season games.

In the NFC it's completely open. That conference really is anyones. There is another potential Farve/Packers meeting in the divisional play-offs - how tasty does that sound?!

But either way, George, i'm worried for you mate. 3 L's going into post season is not good. After the Saints turned over the Pats on MNF i'd have said they were head and shoulders above another other team in the league. But not now. One and done in the play offs? Could well be if you get the dangerous Packers or Eagles.

Anyway, roll on post season. It should be one hell of a few weeks of football!

Picks for the Super bowl anyone?

I'm going with Vikings vs Chargers (but then again, i am biased!)

The late season losses don't really mean much though. The best example of this is the Bengals & the Jets.

Last week, in the last game of the season it ended Jets 37 Bengals 0.

By chance they now have to play again in the 1st play-off game. Sure it is in Cincinnati now but obviously the Jets are nailed on to win???

The bookies don't think so. The Bengals are slight favourites to win the game. Only by 2 or 3 points but they are still favs - last weeks thrashing means nothing.

Now I'm not saying the Bengals will win - but the people who make their living out of working out who has the best chance think they will.

Same thing with the Saints. Forget about the late weeks - they mean nothing. The season starts again for real on Saturday.

That Jets 50/1 seems long gone now - 40/1 across the board. I ain't doing it though. I'm on New England @ 14/1 and Saints @ 4/1 - hopefully at least one of them will get to the Superbowl.

If New England win tomorrow then they travel to San Diego for the next game. That'll be a cracker and hopefully the Chargers lose (sorry "Born In The 80s" but I can't stand the Chargers).

Anyway - all to play for. Should be a good weekend. Now do I get a couple of cases of MGD or Bud?

No need to apologise mate. I'm a vikes fan but i just fancy the Chargers to do well.

Regarding the Jets, i fancy them over the Bengals. I watched the game sunday night and if i was a bengals fan i'd be very worried about that Jets defense. If they get through this weekend, i think they might cause the Colts a few problems in the divisional round providing their running game is firing, which t has been in the last few weeks.

heh Rut.....the term "Who Dat" is as Southern as Red beans and rice, Jambalaya, Crawfish Gumbo and "y'mom an em"

Its been in the vocabulary around here for a hundred years and more and some peeps have been using it in relation to the Saints, all be in a lesser degree pretty much since the teams inception....Hell, you can still find the odd bit of Who Dat memorabilia floating around that's at least from the 70's...Who Dat beer, T shirts and towels and stuff

By all accounts the Bengals ripped it off and adapted it to "Who Dey" in the early 80's and due to their success at the time made better use of it

Peeps around these parts don't really care that much either way ...But the Bengals claim to owning the 'copyright' always raises a smile....ney, more a bellow of laughter ;)

It's easy to tell the original 'quality product' from the cheap rip off', just think to your self

and then "Who Dey think dey going to beat dem Bengals" ....nuff said ;)

Oh, and welcome to the 'Who Dat Nation', all be it temporaly.....enjoy your stay ;)

heh, Some Saints fans just paid to have this put up on a electronic roadside Bill Board in Downtown New Orleans, I drove past it earlier this evening, it looks unbelievably awesome :)

Born In The 80s...TBH I'm not to worried to much about how we ended the season...The Cowboys game was a surprise and a shock I'll admit...I really didn't see that coming.

The Bucks game was as much a case of the Saints taking their foot off the peddle as anything and the Panthers game really doesn't count, except an entry in the stat book....

Most of our starters didn't play at all in that game, while some played for the first half and only a handful played the whole game...Coach Payton used that game mainly as an opportunity to work on some area's that needed some attention...he said post game he was happy with what was achieved so thats good enough for me :)

Injuries to some key players had us struggling a bit towards the end of the regular season...Our secondary was so beat up we had even run out of backup players and were playing a rookie, and players we picked up off the street, including ex Saint Mike Mackenzie who was tailgating and watching the game in the stands a week or so before the Pats game

The huge weakness in the secondary upset the balance of the defense big time and led to needing a lot more coverage at the back, which in turn reduced our aggressiveness at the front. which was one of our strong points in the first half of the season.

The good news is tho......We should have everyone bar Charles Grant rested and healthy for our first Playoff game on the 16th....sure, we lost some momentum...but the best momentum is a 21 point lead ;)

Can't wait :)

My NFC Playoff predictions

.......Week 1 ...........................Week 2......................Week 3......................Mardi Gras Super Bowl :)

Cowboys beat Eagles.........Vikings beat Cowboys

.........................................................................Saints beat Vikings.............Saints beat Chargers .....BIG Party!

Cardinals beat Packers........Saints beat Cardinals

.......

A man went to the Atlanta Falcons ticket office to purchase play-off tickets. The teller says there weren't any tickets for sale because the Falcons didn't make the play-offs.

The next day the same man goes back to the ticket office to purchase Falcons play-off tickets. The teller politely says there weren't any tickets for sale because the Falcons didn't make the play-offs.

This goes on for an entire week. Another week of this goes by and the man still is asking the teller about Falcons play-off tickets. Finally the teller in a loud voice says, "I'VE TOLD YOU FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS THERE WASN'T ANY TICKETS AVAILABLE BECAUSE THE FALCONS DID NOT MAKE THE PLAY-OFFS!"

The man replied, "I know. I drive all the way from New Orleans just to hear you say that! "

Gotta disagree George. It is very rare that the home team wins every game throughout the post season (in fact, anyone know when that last happened?). I definately fancy the Packers over the Cardinals and i reckon the Eagles/Cowboys game could go right down to the wire.

Eagles 17-20 Cowboys

Jets 20-7 Bengals

Ravens 14-31 Pats

Packers 34-27 Cards

Those are my wildcard predictions for this weekend anyway! Looking forward to it!

Wildcard weekend thoughts:

Jets @ Bengals: Think we all laughed when Rex Ryan said the Jets (J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS JETS!) would be Superbowl favourites. But he is right to one extent, they play defence and run the football, the trademark of all play-off teams. However much the regular season differs, the play-offs always come down to those teams who play the best fundamental football. Bengals didn't really get into the game, but I just doubt Sanchez has enough to take them all the way.

Eagles @ Cowboys: A repeat of last week, the Eagles were never in the game. The Cowboys have hit form and we the best all round team of the weekend, no doubt.

Ravens @ Patriots: Dominating defence from the Ravens, especially in the first half. It is a joy to watch a defence play that well. Ray Rice and Willis McGahee are a dangerous tandem in the backfield. Flacco has a year's experience under his belt, and you can only see the D getting better.

Packers @ Cards: Wow. Two teams with plenty of offense but no D, and I can't see either challenging for the title on that evidence. An entertaining game, though, capped off by the first defensive play for 3 quarters in OT.

Roll on Divisional Play-off Weekend. Who Dat?!

watched my first two full games at weekend, first time for years should i say since i used to play in college. back in '86. good lord.

well i say full games, watched all the Jets Bengals. Not bad, was hoping the Jets won so..

Then watched (most) the Packers Cardinals last nite. Turned off with about 8 to go in the 4th, Cards players were saying bye bye to the Packers fans, 27-14 up (iirc). went to bed, couldnt sleep, got up again about 12.45 switched on to see it 45-45!! WTF etc etc!!

Might tune in more often for longer!

OK - so now we are onto the Conference semi-finals (nobody over here actually calls them that but that is what they are).

(Ranking in brackets - all games live on Skysports and terrestrial USA TV)

*** AFC ***

* Sat Jan 16 - 20.15 ET (1.15 am Sunday UK time)

* Baltimore Ravens (6) @ Indianapolis Colts (1)

If the Ravens play like they did v New England then they have a real chance of an upset here. I think they will - Ravens win.

* Sun Jan 17 - 16.40 ET (21.40 UK time)

* New York Jets (5) @ San Diego Chargers (2)

I think the Jets have rode their luck long enough. I don't think the Chargers kicker will be giving them such gifts as the Bengals one did. Chargers win.

*** NFC ***

* Sat Jan 16 - 16.30 ET (21.30 UK time)

* Arizona Cardinals (4) @ New Orleans Saints (1)

Arizona struggled to defend v the Packers. Despite winning they conceded 45 points. I think Saints will score heavily and get to Warner (Cardinals QB) a lot more than the Packers did. Saints win. WHO DAT!

* Sun Jan 17 13.00 ET (18.00 UK time)

* Dallas Cowboys (3) @ Minnesota Vikings (2)

This is a hard one to call. You can make a case for either team. I'm going with the Vikings simply because they are the home team. When there isn't much between the teams this can slightly tip it. Vikings win.

Betting tip of the weekend:

Ravens with a 6.5 point start over the Colts. 10/11 (pretty much across the board).

Should be another cracking weekend of (American) football. Enjoy.

Is it Saturday yet?, God Damit!!!

Man, Its been forever since the Saints played a meaningful game!...All this resting and healing up is driving me crazy!.....good to know the team are feeling the same....they're like like tightly coiled springs just waiting to explode at the mo....

I almost feel sorry for the Cardinals coming into the Dome on Saturday.

This game has 'Give Away/Take Away' ratio written all over it....Who ever wins that battle will be playing in the NFCCG the following week ;) and Greg Williams is salivating at having his full and fit 'Take Away monster' back in action after all the injuries during the latter part of the season.....I'm reckoning on at least 2 touchdowns from turnovers and 4 from Drew...so 42 - 21 to the Who Dats ;)....'Hyped' is not the word....It's waaaay bigger than that........Expect to see Kurt Warner spending a lot of time on his butt with cotton wool in his bleeding ears!

Divisional Play-off Weekend predictions (0% success rate guaranteed):

Cards @ Saints: Despite the entertainment value of the Cards game last Sunday night, it showed up several weaknesses. Warner has struggled in the Dome before, and the Cards D won't be able to cope with the Saints offense. Saints to get off to a flyer and win comfortably. 45-24.

Ravens @ Colts: Can the Ravens D carry them again. Manning will find this a stiff test, but unless the D can score points I can't see the Ravens winning, their offense just isn't good enough. Ravens 10 Colts 24

Cowboys @ Vikings: The Cowboys are on fire and the best all around team in the NFC at the moment. The Vikings are a good team, but they couldn't win a meaningful game down the stretch when they had a great chance at the #1 seed. Cowboys 31 Vikings 28

Jets @ Chargers: Are the Chargers the best team in the NFL? I think so. They weren't phased by the Donks 6-0 start and went on to cruise the AFC West. The Jets run the football and play good D, so they'll keep it close. Jets 13 Chargers 20

A little underwhelmed by that choice, but it looks like we'll get two games next season. I can see why they've chosen that matchup and I'll probably still go, but it would be nice to get the Dolts or Steelers or Bears over here, and that's from a Pats fan*

DEUUUUUUUCCCCCCEEEEE!!!!

omg ...We just re signed Deuce!.....Un freaking believable!

First, we pull ex Saint Mike Mckenzie off the street to play against the Patriots and now re sign Saints legend Deuce McAllister for the play offs, both will now get Super Bowl rings if we go all the way...how classy is that?

New Orleans has been in melt down since the news was announced at noon today....heh, all the local radio and tv stations changed their local programing to cover the news for the rest of the day...Even Joe Bidens visit was blacked out to make room for Deuce

Looks like he won't be playing tommorow but could be ready for the NFC CG next week if we beat the Cards

This guy is a total

...this is like Southampton re signing Matty to take a penalty in a play off penalty shoot out to get to the prem!

For anyone watching the game tomorrow (today)....The crowd's not boooing...We're shouting DEEEUUUUUUUUUCCCCEEEEE!!!

Only 18 hours to go ....can't wait! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evf2z_gFY_g&feature=player_embedded

It's already amazing that Deuce is going to lead the team out and take the coin toss, the dome is going to be WILD.

Imagine if we win and he's active next week, insane.

I want us to go on D first, with the crowd still pumped from Deuce, let's go our there and prove everyone wrong with a big early stop, or even a turnover.

Not long now, who dat!

Geaux Saints!

Was absolutely petrified after that opening play from scrimmage, but our offense was awesome and the D sorted itself out and played a hell of a game. Next week will be much more difficult.

Ravens didn't have any offense, as I predicted. It was that 4 minute spell just before half time that cost them the game.

What a game by the vikes yesterday. Brett Favre is simply a genius. I cannot wait for next sunday now! Some may disagree, but this Vikings/Saints match up has got the makings of being better than the superbowl. So many interesting stories. 2 amazing QBs and the best 2 offenses in the NFL. Also, i can't wait to see how our old mate Darren Sharper plays against us!

The Saints really surprised me on Saturday night. I certainly didn't expect them to come out and play the way they did (especially on D). Bush had a great game and the 'x factor match up' between him and Percy Harvin will be interesting next Sunday.

The super dome is always going to be a huge advantage, as it was for the vikes yesterday. But never go against this Vikings team. We have guys all over the field, on both sides of the ball, who can step up and make big plays. Also, Adrian is gunna be angry come Sunday. No big game for a month or so now for AD. I expect him to come to the party in a BIGGGG way!

Either way, here is to a great game next sunday and may the best team win!

Well it turned out to be the Jets (and not the Ravens) who got the surprise win. Chargers (like the Bengals) missed some crucial kicks. Was great seeing them suffer.

Jets to beat the Colts? Naah - for me it is a Colts v Saints Superbowl. You heard it here 3,149th.

Did anyone back the Jets @ 50/1 at the start of the post-season? They are as short as 6/1 in places now. If you did it on Betfair then I hope you've 'gone green' on them. Saints are in to 2/1 now. Colts are 5/4 favs and Vikings are 9/2 (value in that? maybe - but I think that Saints will wallop 'em so no value at all!).

George - have you got any New Orleans songs that ain't poxy funk, R&B, rap, soul-type sh*t. Got any Punk/Metal/Rock songs cheering them on? A good Punked up 'WHO DAT' song would be great. All those you posted the other day suck.

I could well be having a pro-Saints, f*** the Colts SB party and would love some decent 'WHO DAT' tunes to blast out.

Heh,

after the Cards game last week (Check out Kurt Warner's crash test dummy impression at the 2:28 mark)

As others here have said, this week is a fantastic match up, it couldnt have been scripted any better....The number Two Seed up against the number One, perfect, just as it should be......Home Dome advantage to seal it for the 'Who Dats' and Saints meet the Jets in the Superbowl ;)

It's time for WAR!......poor Bret ;)

Just 3 days to go, can't wait.....Here's a little something some of you peeps on here who just cant get enough of the New Orleans Saints ;) WHO DAT!

Blimey. What about the Jets? Are they going to do what the Ravens did last year and fall at the Championship game stage, or can they stuff the Colts. That game is full of intrigue.

The Saints v Vikings game will be full of offense!

The Jets seems to have a real belief in themselves - however you can never count out the Colts - Peyton and the boys have looked solid this season and I think it may be a little too early for Mark Sanchez.

Every year a friend and I get together to watch the Superbowl - stay up all night, eat a big chili and drink loads - we have done this for years and my pal is a huge Jets fan. He actually used to coach and play gridiron himself and is very passionate and knowledgable about the sport. I got into it when I was about 10 or 11 (am 30 now) and have always followed the Pack - so part of me is hoping for a Jets/Vikes Superbowl - because Brett is one of my all time sporting heroes.

Agree with the poster who said the Vikes/Saints should be a corker.

And for once I think I am in a position where for one reason or another I actually don't mind any of the teams in the championship games - Jets because one of my best buds loves them, Colts because I am a big fan of Manning (I even own a Colts shirt with his name on it), New Orleans because I think the city really deserves something special to happen to them after all they have been through (plus Drew Brees is a total dude) and the Vikings because my all time favourite player has another incredible, unlikely shot at adding another ring to his finger!!

Man I love the NFL.

Jets were 40/1 at the start of the play offs,

Saints are 4/1. I'll have some of that.

Not sure what AFC team to go with. I think the Jets could have timed it right and 50/1 could have some value. Can they win 3 games on the road though? That is why they are 50/1.

50/1 actually and I did half think about it. I'm happier with my Saints bet at the mo though. WHO DAT!

Just playing the audio songs off of that 2nd link. There's tons of em! No Punk ones yet but hey - I can live with that.

Plus as a SFC fan it's always great to hear any song with stuff like 'Go Saints Go', 'Saints fans are number one' and of course 'When the Saints go Marching In'. I bet their ain't many New Orleans fans in Pompey.

I live in Colts land and although there is a bit of hype around it's all pretty tame compared to what you have down there.

For you UK watchers. Did you hear Terre Haute get a mention just now (when the Jets punted - Steve Weatherford is from Terre Haute. His mum drives one of the school buses here).

ie - are you getting the same commentary as we are?

Saints v f**** Pompey. Still buzzing - surely a nailed-on TV game here. The week after Saints win the Superbowl. Won't get much better than that. 3-1 to Saints.

Watching my first ever american football game. Question: Why are the saints players allowed to get away with tw*tting Brett Favre at every opportunity? What has that got to do with the skill of playing the game? If Favre is injured and the saints win isn't that similar to someone breaking Lambert's leg to beat Southamtpon?

Indeed. It is a fortnight to the Superbowl.

Defensive players can still hit the QB if their momentum is taking them towards him when the qb releases the ball, although you are supposed not to hit so aggressively if you know the ball has gone.
