The stamp was bang out of order.

As for the celebration, brilliant! I hate it when players get booked for inciting the crowd, if they've had to take dog's abuse from the opposing fans, they should be allowed to give some bag. The Gooners deserved that for how they abused him when he was still at their club.

Has it been confirmed what type of sandwich was thrown at him as he slid to his knees infront of them?

I believe it was Tuna mayo, looking at the velocity it took.

He angered me so much. Celebration was tasteless… The stamp was even worse. Deserves a hefty fine and a ban as well in my opinion.

It seems that you are overlooking the 2 footed challenege through his leg (which he did well to jump over and avoid) by Van Persie leading to the stamp (on his hand)...and then he reached for his face like he just caught a right hook. Similarly, the endless amounts of ****ty challenges throughout the game trying to bring him down at every oppotunity.

I say good him...stamp on the whiney cheating little **** and go and stick your middle finger up at loads of gooners for giving you sh1t throughout the game....if u can't take it..don't dish it out. What did they expect?

Spot on B Rabbit. If Van Persie had of made contact then he would have probably given him a serious injury, it looked to me as if he went in their with the intent to hurt.

I could empathise with how Adebayor reacted so impulsively when he stabbed his leg at Van Persie, bear in mind Van Persie intended to clatter Adebayor; Adebayor simply reacted to the provocation. This doesn't make it right of course but some of the reactions on here are embarrassing.

As for the celebration, well what a way to endear yourselves to the fanbase of your new club, it would make the hairs on my neck stand up if a Saints player did that and it reminded me of Tim Flowers:D

I like the way the fans give it large and do all the masculine posturing and then complain they have hurty feelings.....awww bless, maybe we should have a creche at football grounds where the new breed of weedy football fan can go and have a good cry when an ex player gives them them the proverbial middle finger in a bit of one-upmanship.

It's been going on since the year dot and I just don't see what he did wrong, surely it's all part of the fun of going to football.

I can remember when Matt Taylor was giving Saints fans loads near the goalmouth when they battered us a few years back, we did the same back. I don't think any of us would have been bothered to report him would we -isn't it's just letting off steam.

I hate it when supporters moan after they are happy to abuse a player verbally...

Ian Wright said that years ago, saints fans reported him to the police after he was getting dogs abuse all game, when he scored he goaded the Milton...and what does someone do..?

It is all part of the pantomime IMO

To be fair to Van Persie, did you see his face afterwards? Certainly didn't just get caught on his hand!

It is always a case that you don't retaliate, I think both players should have been sent off.

Also Van Persie did receive a nasty looking injury so no excuses for either player. As for Adebayor and his goal "celebrations" that was very provocative and very unwise given the recent trouble at games and especially the West Ham v Millwall game. I'd be amazed if Adebayor did not pick up a 2/3 game ban though RVP might escape unfortunately as the ref booked him so clearly saw the challenge.

Oh dear, Adebayor not only trying to kick a player in the face but also inciting the crowd by running the lenght of the pitch to celebrate a goal which he could of done in front of his own fans. Shows what an idiot you are inciting trouble. I hope the FA show him the red card for being as you call it"cheating little ****" but with the added title of "inciting violence" As for the fans its what football is all about dishing it out, the players have to expect that, not incite a riot, I thought even you had the intelligence to think that out. Obviously not on this occasion.

So if Kenwyne Jones did the same to us you would sit with your arms crossed? Plastic?

I wouldn't be pleased, but I'd accept it as part of the give and take of banter. At least I'd like to think I'd be able to keep my temper in check to the extent that I didn't start breaking things or throwing things or injuring people. Does that make me plastic (?!?), or just someone who's responsible enough to be allowed out in public?

If you think a goal celebration is justification for an outbreak of violence then you're a bigger numptie than I'd given you credit for.

If a man on the street kicked someone in the head and then incited a riot he would be hurled in front of the crown court facing charges of GBH and public disorder - why should a footballer be any different???

In the real world (i.e. not in the weird mind of the average retarded football fan), CCTV evidence would be found and all the idots who genuinely believe the location of Adebayor's goal celebration (in front of the Arsenal fans) is a valid enough reason to start a riot would be punished.

Adebayor's celebrarion wasn't even out of the ordinary other than running the length of the pitch. He didn't even gesture with the fans and probably didn't even say anything to any of them. Everything which followed was purely down to the actions of the mindless fans.

What about when bridgey ran the full length of the pitch celebrating in front of the skates? All fair game in my book. Regarding the stamp i haven't seen it so can't comment. But RVP is a nasty piece of work most of the time so i reckon he probably deserved it! ;)

Van Persie cost me a grand once. No tears shed there.

As for the celebration? That was quality. The game was live on TV over here and I laughed loudly when the camera cut away from the close up of him obviously running - to show where he had actually ran to.

Lots of poor, hard done by, enraged Arsenal fans going mental - a lovely sight :-)

I liked it so much I decided to turn off the Saints radio commentary for a while to actually listen to City v Arsenal game. Good stuff.

Hear, hear, same with punch-ups etc, that if had happened in the stands would involve life-bans for the perpetrators.

It was hardly a full forced kick in the head was it? Crikey if I hadn't seen the incident on tv and it was described to me by some people on here, my mind would conjure up images of a grown man being pummeled and his head bouncing off the pitch like a rag doll.

The reality is that it was just an impulsive reaction to someone trying to break your legs, I even think he tried to pull out halfway through.

Some would try and make it out to be just as bad and pre-meditated as Paul Davis's elbow on Glenn ****erill - oh, bear in mind that Van Persies actions were totally that, when he attempted to put the full force and momentum of his body through Adebayor's legs, I imagine to try and teach him a lesson.

I have to laugh at the comparions to full punch-ups or people being kicked in the head in the street - what totally ludicrous comparators.

What a bunch of drama queens we have on here.

Bridgey never played for the skates so has no relevence on this incident, hth.

Knowledge failure or just thinking you're on TMS?

I'm guessing its the latter...

So you think it is ok for Bridgey to give a little back to the Skate bar stewards as he didn't play for them, but a crime for adebayor to do the same as he played for Arsenal. Christ do you need to try hard to be this stupid?

(yes i know i shouldn't bicker Mr Baj please let me off just this once sir! ;) )
