Matthew Le God Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Lallana Scheiderlin Hammond Mills Waigo Lambert Subs: Bart Perry James Mellis Paterson Saganowski Holmes
iansums Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I'd go with: Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Papa Morgan Hammond Holmes Saga Lambert
alpine_saint Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo James Hammond Mills or Holmes Saga Lambert Bart, Perry, Schneiderlin, Holmes or Mills, Lallana
Saint_Jonny Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Like the look of the team above (second post) seeing as Lallana hasn't been crap enough to lose his place in the side. Only change I would make is Morgan for James, hes been quality thus far. Saying that Morgan has been quality coming off the bench so I could be wrong.
saintstr1 Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I think it is now time to maybe play a bit more adventurous , Especially with the players we have and so I would like to see us playing a 4-3-3 or a flexible 4-4-2. Davis Thomas. Jaidi. Trotman. Harding Waigo. James. Hammond. Holmes Saga. Lambert Subs:- Bialkowski , Perry , Lallana , Schniederlin , Mellis , Mills, Patterson
krissyboy31 Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo Scheiderlin Hammond Mills Lallana Lambert Subs: Bart Perry James Mellis Paterson Saganowski Holmes
kpturner Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I predict some jaw dropping astonishing moments from Mr Wiago. I cannot predict whether or not they will be for good reasons or bad reasons though ;-)
J Bizzle Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I would personally go for a 4-3-3 -----------------------------Davis Thomas---------------Trotman-----Jaidi-----------------Harding -----------------------------James -------------------Hammond-----Schneiderlin Waigo-------------------------------------------------------Mills ---------------------------Lambert Will probs see a 4-4-2 Davis Thomas Trotman Jaidi Harding Lallana Hammond Schneiderlin Mills Waigo Lambert.

saintsfannick Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 changed my mind , midfield from: waigo morgan hammond lallana
S-Clarke Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo Scheiderlin Hammond Mills Lallana Lambert Subs: Bart Perry James Mellis Paterson Saganowski Holmes +1 x100000
Bailey Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Got to be this . . . Davis Thomas - Jaidi - Trotman - Harding Waigo - Hammond - Schneiderlin - Mills Lallana - Lambert Subs: Bialkowski, Perry, Wotton, Holmes, Thomson, Mellis, Paterson
Bailey Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Forgot about James and Saga! Stick them on the bench in place of Wotton and Thomson. Sorted.
red&white56 Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I predict some jaw dropping astonishing moments from Mr Wiago. I cannot predict whether or not they will be for good reasons or bad reasons though ;-) I can't go but i hope the You Tube generation will do their bit and record some great Wiago moments for me to check out on Sunday! I'm especially looing forward to his first goal !
Rebel Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Its got to be: Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo Morgan Hammond Lallana Lambert Saga gives us a strong solid defence with Harding giving us some width going forward on the left and Waigo on the right the best we've played so far this season was against Brum City for the first 70 mins and a lot of that was down to the interplay on the left going fowards between Harding, Lallana, Lambert and Saga Thomas was solid at right back against Colchester and got forward quite a bit as well - now if he can do that again and feed Waigo the ball with time and space to run at the oppo we should look good on the right as well Morgan as playmaker looking for Waigo in space on the right and Lallana on the left and/or Lambert dropping off Saga on the edge of the box(Morgan stood out in his brief cameo against Colchester - its time to give him a start) Saga leading the line and looking for the flick-ons and one-twos with Lambert Hammond as the box-to-box midfielder - being our extra man in their box! Lallana needs to be encouraged to run at the oppo defence as when he does he causes chaos and space for Saga and Lambert I'm hoping Waigo will give us some pace on the break and be a cross between a right winger and a third striker for us!!
shurlock Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Without stating the obvious, would be good to pick up a team that also attempts to neutralise Charlton's strengths (after all we are going to their place). They like to get the ball wide where they have pace to burn. Maybe we need a greater screen in midfield (so Schneiderlin misses out?) or Waigo plays on right wing rather than down the middle to track back with his pace (an added bonus that he's had experience of playing RB in the past). I do fear that if we just try and set our most attacking stall out as most posts are doing, we'll actually see very little of the ball and might have another Huddersfield on our hands.
eharty9 Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 -----------------Davis-------------------- thomas------jaidi------trotman-------harding ---------------scneiderlin------------------ ------hammond-----------james----------- waigo-------------------------------mills/holmes ------------Lambert------------------
Saint Charlie Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Got to be as MLG said. Play Papa up front where he doesn't have to track back and can use his pace in the most dangerous areas.
Andy_Porter Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I think a 4-5-1 is the way forward against Charlton, not sure which three from Lallana, Hammond, Schneiderlin, James and Gillett should play in the middle though. Really suprised Gillett hasn't been mentioned once in this thread, at the start of the season he would have been in 90% of teams. I'd still like to see him play ahead of James, especially if we're playing with five in midfield. At least then we've got Saga and Paterson on the bench if we need to change the game and get a goal or two.
jam Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Lallana Scheiderlin Hammond Mills Waigo Lambert Subs: Bart Perry James Mellis Paterson Saganowski Holmes Like that but maybe swap James for Lallana. Better defensively and better crosses for the front two.
sotonnick Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 davis thomas jaidi trotman harding lallana james hammond holmes waigo lambert bart perry schneiderlin mellis mills saganowski paterson
John B Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 (edited) Will it be a bit defensive first half as we dont want to concede an early goal? Edited 10 September, 2009 by John B
Avenue Saint Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 what rebel said, without doubt strongest line up..
madruss Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Got to be as MLG said. Play Papa up front where he doesn't have to track back and can use his pace in the most dangerous areas. I agree. This way he'll also be able to create space for Lambert, who had a difficult time of it against Colchester, mainly due to the fact that he was being double and sometimes tripled marked. With defenders being pulled all over the place by Waigo's (alleged) pace, Lambert will be more likely to get chances on goal
Clifford Nelson Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Lallana Scheiderlin Hammond Mills Waigo Lambert Subs: Bart Perry James Mellis Paterson Saganowski Holmes I can't see it in any other way. Lallana will be in the starting line up and AP will never take the risk of starting Papa on the wing without knowing how he plays. At home possibly, but never away. Then, of course, I'll prove to be dreadfully wrong.
NickG Posted 10 September, 2009 Author Posted 10 September, 2009 Got to be this . . . Davis Thomas - Jaidi - Trotman - Harding Waigo - Hammond - Schneiderlin - Mills Lallana - Lambert Subs: Bialkowski, Perry, Wotton, Holmes, Thomson, Mellis, Paterson dropping Saga from first 11 to not even on bench?
NickG Posted 10 September, 2009 Author Posted 10 September, 2009 Forgot about James and Saga! Stick them on the bench in place of Wotton and Thomson. Sorted. explains it!
Northam Girls Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 davis thomas jaidi trotman harding lallana james hammond holmes waigo lambert bart perry schneiderlin mellis mills saganowski paterson Like this but would play Mills instead of Holmes in this one. Better defensively and can dovetail with Harding.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo Morgan Hammond Mills Lambert Lallana subs Bart James Saga Mellis Perry
NickG Posted 10 September, 2009 Author Posted 10 September, 2009 Very sad but just gone through this to see the most popular team. looking at each position to see who get the most votes for that position (rather than using the 11 players with most votes) the team is back 5 - all agreed. midfield - Papa Hammond Schniederlin Mills forwards - Saga and Lambert. Interesting bits for me; no place for Lallana - had votes in several differnet positions. AP is big fan and sure will want to use him but where? Everyone agreed on Kelvin - no surprise Thomas Harding / Jaidi / Trottman / Hammond and Harding - all AP signings (and sure Murty would have been as well.
altoniansaints Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I'd go with: Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Papa Morgan Hammond Holmes Saga Lambert i second that!!!!!!!
NickG Posted 10 September, 2009 Author Posted 10 September, 2009 so would I - if Holmes is ready. although it is picking Papa over Lallana without having seen him!
krissyboy31 Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Reading between the lines of the Holmes report on the OS, I don't think he will be considered until he's played at least another reserve game (not for the starting XI, anyway).
badgerx16 Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Not wanting to p1ss on anybody's parade, but we have spent the last 6 matches bemoaning the lack of pre-season & match practice in the squad, yet as far as I can see all the selections above include Jaidi & Waigo- just remind me how much first team action either has seen in the last 6 months ? In my opinion Jaidi might well start, but how long will he last, and how sharp is he likely to be ? And I think Papa will be on the bench as an 'impact substitute'.
St Marco Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 As i said in the last thread i would not put Morgan or Mills in simply because Morgan has overall been gash and since he has been taken out we look a better more compact side. A team that has let only 2 goals in. He is a good player, potential to be a great player but he is one of those players who will either be involved for about 20-30mins of a game or not be involved at all. James has done better then Morgan thus far and does his job well. Charlton are a team that will battle for midfield and we need likewise players in there. If all fit then ---------------------Davis----------------- Thomas------Jaidi--------Del Boy------Harding Lallana -------Hammond---James------Holmes --------------Papa Smurf----Lambert---------- Then if things are still solid and tight we have room to manouver. We can chase the game by then bringing on Mellis/Saga/Mills. Or if we need to go a little defensive we can then bring on Wotten/Perry. Or if we need a period where we want to get the ball up the front as quick as possible we can bring on Morgan with his passing. This is a game where we have to remain solid and work hard from start to finish if we are to come away with anything. In other games against lesser sides then maybe start with him.
Popester Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I'd go with: Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Papa Morgan Hammond Holmes Saga Lambert That's the one !

No sh!t Shurlock! (Sorry, couldn't resist that one.) Seriously though, well said. We are playing AWAY to the team TOP of the league with 6 WINS OUT OF 6. Part of the problem last season was us not bothering about who the oposition were or how they play. Let's not repeat that please. My team would be: --------------------------Davis----------------------------- Thomas--------Jaidi--------------Trotman-----Harding James--------Morgan------------Hammond-------Mills -------------------Lallana---------------------------------- ------------------------------Lambert---------------------- However, I expect it to be this: --------------------------Davis----------------------------- Thomas--------Jaidi--------------Trotman-----Harding Lallana--------James------------Hammond-------Mills -----------------Lambert----------Saga------------------ With, as a couple of others have said, Waigo coming off the bench for the last 30 mins or so.

chrisobee Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Lallana Scheiderlin Hammond Mills Waigo Lambert Subs: Bart Perry James Mellis Paterson Saganowski Holmes Yep, I'd go with that exactly, Schniederlin has to play for me and Waigo up front and not on the right side of midfield. Could leave Thomas exposed if Papa goes a wandering as I think he might and I think that he needs a freer role anyway to be at his most effective though that is clearly based on very limited knowledge of him.
chrisobee Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 I think you'll find Jaidi's Nearer 6' 4" (or 6' 3.5" if I remember right ?!) Any advance on 6'4 ! Says 6'2 on OS and 6'3.5 on Wikapedia. I'm inclined to favour the accuracy of the latter !
samoakley Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 I think most people on here have named the squad we should play but i have a feeling that saga will be on bench because of being away with poland. I wouldnt mind seeing holmes get at least 20 mins out on the wing and push for a starting place as hes a natural winger and lallana is better in the middle or off the striker. The one thing i think will be defo is the back 5 being the following Davis Thomas Jihadi Perry Harding
krissyboy31 Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Any advance on 6'4 ! Says 6'2 on OS and 6'3.5 on Wikapedia. I'm inclined to favour the accuracy of the latter ! Being Tunisian, he doesn't do feet and inches!!!! PFA site says 6' 3", so I'd go with that! http://www.givemefootball.com/player-profiles/radhi-jaidi
iansums Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Papa Morgan Hammond Holmes/Mills Saga/Lallana Lambert When I chose the above the only two positions I had to think hard about were LM and RA. I do wonder whether Lallana's best position is in the hole ala Rooney, especially having Papa out wide. God I hope Papa lives up to the hype.
SNSUN Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Chuffing looking forward to this one now! Davis Thomas Jaidi Trotman Harding Waigo James Hammond Mills Lallana Lambert (although I still think Lallana will be left in at left midfield and Saga played up front. There's also the dillema of who to play alongside Hammond, could it be James, Mellis, Morgan, Wotton, Gillett, or even Lallana? One of a managers greatest and worst decisions is when he's blessed with a full squad. James for me gets the nod, just ahead of Mellis, but I wouldn't be suprised to see any of them in there...)
chrisobee Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Makes a nice change after so long to be able to think about our best team as opposed to our least blooming awful team !
Greenridge Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Papa must be a good player, everyone's got him in the team yet no one has seen him play (except on You Tube) #-o
