samoakley Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Well he done very well with reading at this level and in the championship and he done very well with west ham in championship and prem. Hes had a few games to get know the current squad and he has added some quality now so he should be now getting us results, charlton is going to be tough if we beat them i expect us to push on and finish top 8, but if we lose i shall still be confident we can push up the league but if theres not a victory within the next 2/3 games were in deep trouble and AP will have a lot to answer for, as this squad is one of the best in the league.
Cabrone Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Interesting quote in the OP's link re AP when he joined Charlton: “I will be doing everything in my power to inspire what we’ve got here. I’ve always been able to operate well without big money. I am very focused, my philosophy is very complicated with what I do and I need people who are good enough to be able to go along with that. It’s going to be about fighting, digging in, and winning games" – Alan Pardew, Dec 2006. I find the 'my philosophy is very complicated' quote a bit alarming and I just hope his experience at CAFC made him have a rethink about his 'complicated' philosophy. When it comes to football management I'm in the Brian Clough (best English manager of all time IMO) school of thought, namely that football is a simple game. Old big head preached good players played in the correct positions within a stable formation and it worked. To be fair from what I've seen so far I think that Pardew has learnt from his Charlton lesson by acquiring decent players and playing them in their correct positions. Also I like the fact that he looks to be building from the back. If you want to go places you must have a mean defence and this is what I am seeing at SFC now. I'm happy with what he's done and all we need now is the spark to go on a winning run.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 It is always dangerous listening to the opinions of other fans when they reflect on their past managers. I know a lot of Reading and West Ham fans and the word they use over and over again is "arrogant" and from that article the Charlton brethren tend to concur. Nothing wrong with arrogance - most top managers could be accused of being arrogant (Clough, Ferguson, Shankly) but I think they became arrogant after success rather than before. I am concerned about Pardew especially as he was not Cortese's first choice but he's here now and proper judgement cannot really be made until after Xmas.
Doctoroncall Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 I am concerned about Pardew especially as he was not Cortese's first choice... So will you reveal who was?
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 So will you reveal who was? Copell
spyinthesky Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Copell Thats what I heard from a v good source who also told me that Ray Wilkins was being lined up as No2. The latter surprised me as I thought he was well established at Chelsea. However I am sure the person meant to say Dean Wilkins as this actually occurred. If this was the actual course of events, question is was Dean Wilkins Pardew's appointment or did he 'inherit' him?
Doctoroncall Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 Copell Ta, Coppell was a worthy first place candidate.

up and away Posted 11 September, 2009 Posted 11 September, 2009 It is always dangerous listening to the opinions of other fans when they reflect on their past managers. I am concerned about Pardew especially as he was not Cortese's first choice but he's here now and proper judgement cannot really be made until after Xmas. A lot of the more measured comments from West Ham and Charlton fans were the same as my initial reaction when Pardew was appointed, not totally impressed. But then looking at the good things he has done I could see a lot of sense in the appointment given a League 1 club. Subsequently a lot of the criticism from these fans look like they could be attached against our performances, but not all looks lost. So far I have been very impressed by his movements into the transfer market, something Burley could never manage, although you do wonder how difficult it is in League 1 with an extensive budget? Even if Pardew turns out to be a dud, I still believe he has done enough in the transfer market to get us out of this mess. I am more than happy to keep going with Pardew, it would not surprise me for him to turn everything around and alleviate all fears I possibly had. Liebherr can do anything he likes within practical reason and his position on the manager will be mine. I am just grateful to still have a club to support.
lordswoodsaints Posted 11 September, 2009 Author Posted 11 September, 2009 From what I have heard from my friends in the media is that pardew wasn't even second choice.
