Topcat Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 I think that we do need a reminder of Rupert Lowe at SMS. How about every urinal and toilet has his name painted in the bowl? :-)
Legod Third Coming Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 I think that we do need a reminder of Rupert Lowe at SMS. How about every urinal and toilet has his name painted in the bowl? :-) We have several reminders: 1. 15000 empty seats. 2. Watching Theo Walcott at the Emirates. 3. The tastiest buffet in Hampshire.
sotonist Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 It's called Godwin's Law (don't ask me how I know!!!) Right you are. More information here. http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Godwin%27s_Law Sadly the forum apparently limits me to ten images, so i can't quit this thread with a 50 rupert post. Moreover the forum can't count and actually limits me to nine.
Topcat Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Legod - staring at 4th division football.... Sotonist, yes one of those photos etched into every urinal and toilet would be a better reminder. So that he never comes anywhere near our city for fear of being recognised and laughed at for the rest of his life. Not that I am bitter. Revenge is the dish that people with taste p on warmly....
alpine_saint Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Having a sense of humour is one thing, but it is genuinely disgraceful to compare Rupert Lowe to Adolf Hitler. For the vast majority of his decade as leader of the Third Reich AH (on the rebound as a failed artist) managed to unite the fractured German populace, resurrect the country to challenge in Europe, and harness the power of oratory and the media. RL (on the rebound as a sub-standard failed agent) in his decade as Chairman at SFC on the other hand, was unsuccessful in these, and many, many, many (emphasis added) other areas. Hitler also had a fanatical entourage of hopelessly camp social misfits and reactionaries who would defend his every action even after his demise; and in the face of almost universal condemnation. Hang on... I shouldnt find this funny, but I do.

Lowe was NEVER wrong in anything he said or did .... and destroyed all those that questioned his authority ..... and his GREEN GESTAPO was a classic move ... ... to rough up those at St Mary's who were still cheering for Jesse Owen .... was straight out of Hitler's 1000 year Reich:cool:

SaintRichmond Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Was up on the 2nd Floor of St Marys recently and looked at the interesting old photos and Honours Board in the corridor outside the Board Room. Someone had scratched out the name of our esteemed ex Leader from the Chairman's Board. Funny to some extent but shame that a nice old wooden presentation board had to be defaced. Wonder if his predecessor, Mr Askham, will face the same fate? Interesting to know who did the dirty deed. For those who may be interested the Doncaster steam engine has been consigned to the basement and Lawrie and the Cup reinstated in the Board room Finally a question for the anoraks, which Saints Youth player has the most England Youth caps? Difficult one. I would never have guessed. Duncan, any idea? That is absolutely scandelous, and the culprit must be found and flogged to within an inch of his/her life .......... ............ For a modest outlay, a small tin of paint stripper would have avoided the defacing of a decent piece of timber IMHO:D

Clifford Nelson Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 You won't find much defacing of plaques around either at Saints or elswhere. That somebody felt so strongly that he (or she) had to eradicate the name is a sign in itself about the strength of feeling and how widespread it was. I'd suggest to leave it exactly as it is now, defaced, then both RL and the anger gets remembered in one fell swoop. What irritates me more than any defacing is people who always chunter on about upholding the law, rules, dictates or whatever else for as long as it doesn't upset their precious order. I would never suggest lawbreaking as something good in itself, but sometimes ordinary, and usually law abiding, people are provoked beyond where they can't reasonably be expected to contain themselves. At that point I'm squarely behind people and and against the arrogance of people in power who think they can act to suit themselves without consideration for others.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Having had time to come to a conclusion, I am now firmly of the belief that your Utterances on here are formed after the consumption of Eighteen Canteens that go to make your name How any REAL Fan of Saints can defend the man that came so close to closing us down defies belief IMHO I wasn't aware I was defending him merely pointing out the inability for other to accept the reality of our past and the roles played by significant others. Lowe was the best of a bad bunch IMO and in the absence of anyone else or the inability for the 3 monkeys to work together he deserved our support.
VectisSaint Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Someone had scratched out the name of our esteemed ex Leader from the Chairman's Board. Funny to some extent but shame that a nice old wooden presentation board had to be defaced. Seems the most likely person to have defaced the board is Lowe himself, probably did it just before exiting with his tail firmly between his legs.Sort of cheap trick the asshole would pull, as he had no regard for our history. More interestingly what is the answer to the questioin about the most youth caps. far more newsworthy and relevant.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Correct So where are they now Toomer or where were they during the interim period run by the Wilde and then Crouch debacle? Lowe was used as an excuse by the apologists and corporate fans who only wanted a diet of premiership football. The reality being as any true fan will acknowledge that we had been very lucky to enjoy top flight football for 27 years long before Lowe arrived with at least 5 near misses regards relegation. Unfortunately, the move to SMS proved one thing that we are club with premership facilities but not a strong fanbase as we hoped we had and had we still been at the Dell I doubt we would even attract the crowds we do now because of the archaic surroundings would put many off. The fact you believe one man can decimate our fanbase by 50% is testament to how poor some of our supporters are compared to the likes of you and me who have remained loyal throughout. There were better ways to protest about Lowe but removing your support for me was never an option and neither was it during the unwelcome and but thankfully brief campaign of Wilde and Crouch when IMO any damage already done was exacerbated to make the situation terminal in it's decline.

I think Lowe had a strength of character somewhat above the level needed to resort to such a petty act and IMO always acted in a proud way with regard to his association with SFC. Unfortunately, the type of individual who acts in this manner are ignorant and selfish and not happy unless they feel things are done to solely please them or they are attention seeking and doing what they think the populace would like them to do as oppose to acting how they would like their own property to be treated. Lowe had no regard for our history? I don't know about that but he was clearly dedicated to our future as was Crouch and Wilde but they all made their mistakes along with the 15,000 who were equally quick to desert the cause. People will always slag me off for being a Lowe luvvie and it doesn't bother me as he was the best out of those available at the time but I find it amusing that threads are started with him as the subject of debate having moved on so far. Are poeple still using him as an apology not to attend games and under the guise of destroying our club? It is those apologists who I will always defend Lowe against because those spolit idiots are as equally culpable for our drop to L1 as anyone else and a failure to accept that our relegation from the Premiership was an increasingly likely occupational hazard even though Lowe IMO allowed his managerial appointments to take on a somewhat Crouchesque fashion as oppose to the way he appointed Strachan. Mistakes happen but people cannot live and learn or ignore them altogether when heinous mistakes are commited with openess and unashamed candour by their god. Lowe is a scapegoat and a chairman who delivered a cup final and a top 10 in a heavily moneyed Premiership can't be all bad. There is the rub - no dissenters then but only when the football rollercoaster dipped for the club did the wolves start howling and the mistake was that many listened and like they accuse Lowe have never acknowledged they got it wrong. So I will always defend Lowe not because he got it right all the time but because of the double standards of those against him.
MerceSaint28 Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 absolute rubbish again Nineteen canteen. We sold out nearly every prem game and genuinely thought we could of built a bigger stadium. The fact that attendences dropped was in protest at Lowe's mismanagement and nothing to do with supporting our club. We are a big club, the fact which was emphasised as we were bought by a Billionaire. You speak utter toilet, please leave this forum

I have no desire to revisit old ground but you reignited the issue.

The fact that attendences dropped was in protest at Lowe's mismanagement and nothing to do with supporting our club. We are a big club, the fact which was emphasised as we were bought by a Billionaire. You speak utter toilet, please leave this forum Premiership football is not a given for a club of our size and Lowe had us punching above our weight. I have sat in the same seat since our move to SMS and have seen the 'big game' fans come and go many of which are bordering on the corporate type of fan with an embarrassing lack of knowledge about the team let alone the game. Then we have all those who attend the big games since our relegation and always tell you they usually sit somewhere else which is probably true but it isn't in SMS on usual match days. If fan's deserted the club over Lowe's mismanagement then I guess Mr Liebherr will be somewhat patient before investing anymore money in a business with such a fickle customer base. You are deluded if you think we are a big club because we have been bought by a billionaire and one with close family ties to the docks. Do you think Andrew Oldknow may have cottoned on to the opportunity and made the approach or do you think Mr Liebherr sat in his office in Switzerland and made the decision to invest in a fading football club? If we are a big club then QPR must be the next Real Madrid or is it something to do with some prime West London real estate? I don't mind if people refer to my posts as toilet especially those who are resepcted by others and with a credible posting history but it's offensive coming from a 3 posts a day person with the logic of an angst ridden uneducated teenager. Leave the forum? Why don't you I'm sure your input will be missed.

So I will always defend Lowe not because he got it right all the time but because of the double standards of those against him. The hilighted text is for me beyond the ridiculous! Mr Lowe was appointing crap manager after crap manager long before Crouch came on the scene. To say he appointed managers in a crouchesque manner is absurd, as Crouch realised his mistake with his first managerial appointment and took on arguably one of the best young English managers at the moment. Sometimes you do speak some sense and then other times,(usually when it involves Mr Lowe) you let yourself down by speaking absolute twaddle!
Greenridge Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Some people can't let it go. Regardless of your views on Lowe to deface club property is shameful and a pathetic attempt at trying to eradicate one's personal memories of Lowe. No doubt Mr Liebherr and the team will spend some money to replace or renovate the board as even they can't rewrite history. In any event it is ignorant in the extreme to ignore the good Lowe did and whilst he made some major errors he was not exactly alone in the past 5 years in exacerbating the club's perilious position. Lowe was culpable but so were many others and throwing money at a lost cause doesn't distinguish any guilt IMO. It's ironic that McMenemy's picture has been returned to the boardroom. He undoubtedly delivered our greatest moment but post his managerial days did more to undermine those in the boardroom than support them IMO and latched onto Crouch like a leech when the opportunity afforded him. McMenemy was as damaging and divisive as Lowe during the past 10 years or so and IMO contributed very little to the cause. Perhaps both their portraits should be hung alongside each other in the boardroom as a testament to the fact that a combination of their talents is what is required by a football club chairman and that IMO neither Crouch or Wilde had the talent in either sphere and whose actions never really matched their rhetoric. It happened and vandalising any historical record isn't going to eradicate the fact. Do we rewrite history by removing the name Ali Dia from our records or Vincent Pericard as examples of great footballing decisions? Perhaps MLT for trying to make personal gains from betting at the start of a game? There has been plenty of heros and villians along the way and to physically scratch them from history shows a distinct lack of maturity to say the least. I doubt the irony is lost on anyone that you have jumped in. Rather than trying to rubbish other's who have been at the helm why not make a positive case for Lowe who the thread is referring to. Your answers are like that of someone who has revised poorly for their maths exam and when asked what 2 + 2 equals they respond with a tome about Laplace Transforms. As for your (yet another veiled attack) on Pearson regarding Pericard then most reasonable people would suggest it was a gamble worth taking. It didn't work out and Pearson was the first to recognise this hence his limited use at what was a desperate time calling for desperate measures. It's been noticeable how absent you've been from the board since most of the topics have been football related in recent weeks. You've been missed.

Supporters love thier club, however there is always a limit to the amount of abuse we can all take. Lowe ran the club into the ground, whats worse is that we didn't even spend any money doing it. He never understood that you need to speculate to accumulate. He treated fans with contempt, everything from lack of communication to trying to access club boards on 606 through a PR team but he always did it leaving a bad taste in the mouth. I was one who refused to watch the side when he was in charge and im proud of that. I refuse to fund that parasite, just look at how much him and his cronies stole from the club, scandalous. The simple fact is that in any job, to take a club who was in the top division for 28 years to then to the third tier inside 3 years, is a massive failure and you would be sacked. Lowe's biggest mistake was returning thinking he could rescue a club in terminal decline in hindsight I would have preferred watching Crouch trying to oil his way out of the mess he helped to set in motion. Trouble is Lowe was the only credible alternative to try and save the club despite an obvious terminal diagnosis but the situation coupled with attitude of 'fans' like yourself he had failed before he even started. You should upgrade your membership if your parents can sign off your bank account application but that depends on you having the right 'ammount' of funds.

Eyes k8 Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 One could of course argue that the defacing of the name Rupert Lowe is also part of the history of the club as much as Rupert lowe himself. Iconoclasm such as Cromwell's boys emptying the royal mortuary chests at Winchester Cathedral does suggest that the civil war happened because the king managed to upset a significant number of people. In the same way Lowe may not have been too bad at financially running the club, but what the defacement suggests is that he upset at least one person to a fairly fundemental level. Suggest you leave it as is. On the other hand you did get rid of that lovely statue. Shame.

Wes Tender Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Lowe's biggest mistake was returning thinking he could rescue a club in terminal decline in hindsight I would have preferred watching Crouch trying to oil his way out of the mess he helped to set in motion. Trouble is Lowe was the only credible alternative to try and save the club despite an obvious terminal diagnosis but the situation coupled with attitude of 'fans' like yourself he had failed before he even started. I would have been quite content to have carried on with our STs last season with Crouch as Chairman and Nigel Pearson as manager. I think that we would have survived both administration and also avoided relegation. But I am convinved that two factors signed Lowe's death knell on his return. Firstly his return itself resulted in a sufficient drop in attendances to make it increasingly more difficult to sustain a sufficient level of income to remain afloat. Secondly, the dismissal of Pearson and the appointment of the double Dutch and the mad experiment with the youth team playing total football, ensured the relegation and exacerbated the attendances decline when we were incapable of winning all but a handful of home matches. As somebody else said on another thread, when it was suggested a few months back that administration was the answer to our problems, most decried that opinion as the last thing we wanted. Although it is clear that there is no way that Lowe could have kept us going and that Crouch may or may not have succeeded with Pearson, what is plain, is that in actual fact, the best solution for the long term prosperity of the club has been administration. The best benefit of which was to purge the club of all those charlatans that held shares and whose further influence is gone for ever.
St Marco Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 I can still remember people talking this time last year about how Lowe and Wilde returning will make the club great again and the Crouch regime was a joke. It is quite sad to think that in just over a year we are now onto our 4th manager, and some are already thinking of making it 5th! The problem with the whole Lowe return thing as i said at the time was they came back with no plans, no money, just egotistical selfish agendas that would result in failure totally. So while i think he has done a lot bad, he will be remembered as the guy who brought the club into the CCC and then L1 and the guy who took us into admin. Those 3 things alone destroy any of the good he may have done in the past. But he should still have his name up on the wall, he was chairman and you should give him that. But it should serve as a reminder and example of how not to run a football club. The guy did very little good and much bad. It is just a pity it will probably take us 5 years to get back to where we were when he deicided to fook it all up.

I agree with your last point Wes but it was a very uncomfortable summer and if we could have avoided it then that would still have been preferable especially for all those smaller businesses who have suffered the consequences. I still believe it was broke before Lowe's return and the slip to the edge of oblivion was instigated by Wilde ablely supported by the likes of Crouch and Burley to name but a few. We agreed the only feasiable option was for the 3 monkeys to work together but for all theories that have been debated that was not possible for whatever reason. I firmly believe that Lowe did buy us some time with his hard nosed approach but with fans acting like ship rats he was unable to deliver on the Barclays plan for their continued support. Good managers don't become bad overnight - Alan Pardew being a case in point and perhaps the same applies to chairmen as Lowe did deliver undoubted success for us relative to the new world of football we now operate in with a top half finish in the Premiership that was a significant achievement and FA cup final appearance. The lack of balance to the views of the closet thugs who choose to ridicule reality or whip up some personal agenda against me and not to mention some pathetic Nazi rhetoric does speak volumes about their reasoning or lack of it. As you have wisely said in the past to ridicule or insult an individual in an unsolicited fashion because of their views surrenders the higher ground to them and makes their own views if any obsolete. In hindsight I am grateful, very grateful for what administration has delivered but many have still not rewarded Mr Liebherr with their returning loyalty and taking everything into consideration I was hoping for an average home gate of c.20k. You may be the exception to the rule although I didn't and still don't agree with the action you took because like others you ran the risk of moving on and the need to support the club wanes. Lowe has been ousted and we have a debt free club with a bright future so where is everyone? Begs the question if Lowe was actually the issue as attendances declined in 2006/07 and 2007/08 during his absence. In any event regardless of our historical views we are united in the belief we have a club and a future worthy of our support and the 'charlatans' are gone and forgotten but not by some who continue to raise mindless threads about Lowe being eradicated or otherwise and then get all hissy when they are reminded about other relevant takes on history.
Gemmel Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 As you have wisely said in the past to ridicule or insult an individual in an unsolicited fashion because of their views surrenders the higher ground to them and makes their own views if any obsolete. I'm sure; Lawrie Mac, Leon Crouch, Mike Osman, MLT, Darrens mum etc etc. would agree with this
Nineteen Canteen Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Given his state of mind, maybe "Flew One Cuckoo's Over Nest The" might be more appropriate:D What state of mind would that be Steve Godwin? Care to elaborate on such a smug comment? If so please be factual and aware that time and medical expertise can thankfully cure many medical problems regardless of their nature or origin. I'm not aware we have met or conversed about my health at any time let alone recently so please share with us all your assessment of my 'state of mind' your reasons and your source for such personal information you seem to be alluding you have access to.

To be fair mate you hardly come across as being normal. I've got not problems with individuality as it's better than being boring, but you do seem to revel in being the centre of attention. Do you enjoy being disliked or is this the only way you feel able to be noticed?
eurosaint Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 The remains of a former football club chairman have been found in a bunker in the Southampton suburb of Shirley ! Police have refused to name the individual until his one and only sympathiser identifies the body ! Oh dear, how sad, never mind

I guess I'll be driving a Trabant for a while.
VectisSaint Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 I think Lowe had a strength of character somewhat above the level needed to resort to such a petty act and IMO always acted in a proud way with regard to his association with SFC. Au contraire, Lowe demonstrated many times that he was vindictive and petty to the extreme. I have no evidence to support my tongue in cheek remark that it was probably him that defaced the plaque when he scurried out back to his Cotswolds lair, but the reality is that he had motive and is a very likely suspect. It does fit well with this personality (disorder) Unfortunately, the type of individual who acts in this manner are ignorant and selfish and not happy unless they feel things are done to solely please them or they are attention seeking and doing what they think the populace would like them to do as oppose to acting how they would like their own property to be treated. So even you are admitting that Lowe is a likely candidate, as you have described him to a tee Lowe had no regard for our history? I don't know about that but he was clearly dedicated to our future as was Crouch and Wilde but they all made their mistakes along with the 15,000 who were equally quick to desert the cause. You know full well that he had no regard for our history, as demonstrated by the simple purile act of replacing a memento of our finest moment with a picture of a completely irrelevant train in the Board Room. That great moment was written off simply because the ***** did not like the fact that Lawrie Mac was in the picture, and he could not separate his personal dislike of the man from the relevance of our history. We are all entitled to like/dislike who we please. I'm sure Lawrie gave Lowe many reasons for his dislike, I would like to think so anyway, and more power to him for doing so, but the little git that is Lowe did not have the good grace or the common sense to rise above his spoilt, selfish view of the world People will always slag me off for being a Lowe luvvie and it doesn't bother me as he was the best out of those available at the time No he wasn't. He was the worst possible alternative available at this or any other time. Selfish, self-appointed so-called football expert who came close to taking this club into oblivion because of his single-minded blinkered view that he could do no wrong, when in reality he could actually do no right and is in fact a failed business man, the only thing that he claims to have skills at. but I find it amusing that threads are started with him as the subject of debate having moved on so far. You are the only one who brings these things up, when it is patenely clear that any small previous boycott has now been replaced by a significant increase in attendances even though we are in a lower league. Personally I believe very very few actually did boycott, but I acknowledge and support anyone who had principles enough to have done what they believed was right. In the end their actions did no real harm, the harm was done by Lowe then Wilde then Wilde and Lowe Mistakes happen but people cannot live and learn or ignore them altogether when heinous mistakes are commited with openess and unashamed candour by their god. Please explain how Lowe delivered a Cup Final? This is one of the most laughable comments of the many you have made and continue to make. Unless of course you are suggesting that he fiddled the draw to get us easy ties or bribed referees to let us win games or some other similar fantasy. No-one delivered a cup final. 11 players and a manager earned a visit to Cardiff by their performances on the pitch. We were lucky with the draws we got, and in the end came up short on the day, unlike Lawrie Mac who truly did deliver a Cup Final, and in addition a Cup. So I will always defend Lowe not because he got it right all the time but because of the double standards of those against him. You really do spout some drivel, and it is clear that you are not an SFC supporter of any kind. I don't know why I bothered to take the time to reply to your troll posts, but somehow it seemed the right thing to do. You write nonsense, others feel the need to put the record straight.
