spyinthesky Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Was up on the 2nd Floor of St Marys recently and looked at the interesting old photos and Honours Board in the corridor outside the Board Room. Someone had scratched out the name of our esteemed ex Leader from the Chairman's Board. Funny to some extent but shame that a nice old wooden presentation board had to be defaced. Wonder if his predecessor, Mr Askham, will face the same fate? Interesting to know who did the dirty deed. For those who may be interested the Doncaster steam engine has been consigned to the basement and Lawrie and the Cup reinstated in the Board room Finally a question for the anoraks, which Saints Youth player has the most England Youth caps? Difficult one. I would never have guessed. Duncan, any idea?

swastika eyes Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Why would Danny Wallace scratch Lowe's name out ? There has got to be far bigger suspects than Danny ?

Colinjb Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Regardless of Lowe as a man, he is part of our history, and desecration of any club furniture/property to rid us of him is wrong. He is a warning from history.

Legod Third Coming Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Comparing Nazi Germany to Rupert Lowe, amusing a prospect though it may be is a little out of perspective...... a little..... No, let's be fair Rupert Lowe never built any straight roads.
Gordon Mockles Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Hardly surprising. He's not a liked man & shamelessly p*ssed off & continues to p*ss off many people in all walks of life whilst he did his best to decimate our beloved club. It's no wonder someone felt so emotional they couldn't even bare to have any mention of the club's darkest reign polluting the corridors of St Mary's any longer!
La BoIS Saint Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 What's the internet law about mentions of Hitler? Something like the longer a thread goes on the probability of someone mentioning Hitler or the Nazis tends to 1. I guess if you start with Lowe it's a bit quicker!
Hopkins Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Do we really need another Lowe thread? Forgetting him is pretty hard when everyone talks about forgetting him, therefore completely going against any point they are making. Anyway, Lowe helped us get this ground, whether we like it or not, he's part of our history, a pretty big part, and at times a succesful one. Trying to eradicate him from the boardroom by scratching his name out is pretty gay and pointless.

Nineteen Canteen Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Some people can't let it go. Regardless of your views on Lowe to deface club property is shameful and a pathetic attempt at trying to eradicate one's personal memories of Lowe. No doubt Mr Liebherr and the team will spend some money to replace or renovate the board as even they can't rewrite history. In any event it is ignorant in the extreme to ignore the good Lowe did and whilst he made some major errors he was not exactly alone in the past 5 years in exacerbating the club's perilious position. Lowe was culpable but so were many others and throwing money at a lost cause doesn't distinguish any guilt IMO. It's ironic that McMenemy's picture has been returned to the boardroom. He undoubtedly delivered our greatest moment but post his managerial days did more to undermine those in the boardroom than support them IMO and latched onto Crouch like a leech when the opportunity afforded him. McMenemy was as damaging and divisive as Lowe during the past 10 years or so and IMO contributed very little to the cause. Perhaps both their portraits should be hung alongside each other in the boardroom as a testament to the fact that a combination of their talents is what is required by a football club chairman and that IMO neither Crouch or Wilde had the talent in either sphere and whose actions never really matched their rhetoric. It happened and vandalising any historical record isn't going to eradicate the fact. Do we rewrite history by removing the name Ali Dia from our records or Vincent Pericard as examples of great footballing decisions? Perhaps MLT for trying to make personal gains from betting at the start of a game? There has been plenty of heros and villians along the way and to physically scratch them from history shows a distinct lack of maturity to say the least.

I take it another opinion of mine is ratified by your attempts to ridicule and not take the time to comment on some of my views. Thank you it's appreciated - if somewhat back handed. I can guarantee Gemmel it will be you and others like you who will soon be on the backs of Messrs Liebherr, Cortese and Oldknow because you offer the equivalent of 'knock down ginger' when it comes to adding worthwhile comment and support.

The Farmer Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Benali? Played up front for the England Schoolboys as well. I was at Wembley that day. He didn't score. But he did sport a tasche.
SaintRobbie Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Scratching Rupert's name off the board certainly illustrates the hatred he enduced from within the club, but it is a little silly and petty. He was chairman - for too long, but he was the Chairman. His name should be put back on but as a reminder to all those who follow that incompetence and arrogance must never be allowed to appear at the club again.

As he said, without realising the irony, some people just can't let it go.

Saint_John Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Nothing to do with this thread but as i cannot start them I thought it would get noticed on this one. Radio Solent said this morning that the Saints Fans Forum is on Monday 21st Sept at 19:00 at St Marys. NO ticket is necessary this year, just turn up. NC, AP and KD will be present. John p.s. I wonder if the nutter who usually sits in the 2nd row and asks the 1st question about "how wonderful rupert is" will be there this year ? LOWE OUT !
MerceSaint28 Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Nineteen canteen you speak rubbish im afraid. If lowe was still at the healm, the fool would of driven us to extinction by now. He is the most ignorant, self centred idiot in our clubs history. The sooner he is forgotten the better
Ken Tone Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 I'd go for Frannie Benali....or ? Doesn't Frannie hold some sort of saints youth scoring record, playing as a striker ? ...which made his 1 goal in a millenium at first team level even more remarkable. K.
Miltonaggro Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 Having a sense of humour is one thing, but it is genuinely disgraceful to compare Rupert Lowe to Adolf Hitler. For the vast majority of his decade as leader of the Third Reich AH (on the rebound as a failed artist) managed to unite the fractured German populace, resurrect the country to challenge in Europe, and harness the power of oratory and the media. RL (on the rebound as a sub-standard failed agent) in his decade as Chairman at SFC on the other hand, was unsuccessful in these, and many, many, many (emphasis added) other areas. Hitler also had a fanatical entourage of hopelessly camp social misfits and reactionaries who would defend his every action even after his demise; and in the face of almost universal condemnation. Hang on...
ottery st mary Posted 9 September, 2009 Posted 9 September, 2009 (edited) My guess.....Most England Youth/Under 18 caps.......Tony Heaney.....same team as Bobby Moore. This was my guess before..... Edited 9 September, 2009 by ottery st mary

Fairs fair ...Lowe "defaced" OUR Club BIG TIME No doubt Mr Liebherr and the team will spend some money to replace or renovate the board as even they can't rewrite history. Correct, they cannot rewrite History ... so, look it up and study it ... and (for once) see and acknowledge how close Lowe came to destroying SAINTS In any event it is ignorant in the extreme to ignore the good Lowe did and whilst he made some major errors he was not exactly alone in the past 5 years in exacerbating the club's perilious position. Lowe was culpable but so were many others and throwing money at a lost cause doesn't distinguish any guilt IMO. I cannot think of ONE thing that Lowe did FOR Saints.... St Mary's???NO, he nearly ruined the negotiations on that, after his abyssmal Stoneham fracas..... "throwing money at lost causes ???" ..... Lowe NEVER put £1 INTO Saints, so whose money are you on about It's ironic that McMenemy's picture has been returned to the boardroom. He undoubtedly delivered our greatest moment but post his managerial days did more to undermine those in the boardroom than support them IMO and latched onto Crouch like a leech when the opportunity afforded him.
