Derren Brown - Predicting the lottery before the numbers come out tommorow

Saw an advert for the program on friday in which Derren Brown talks for a bit, then holds up a plastic snow flake/star.

Part of the forthcoming fake explanation, no doubt.

Or it could be to do with a mathematical equation? ;) Snow flakes are a popular expression of the mathematical concept of fractals, I believe.

I will be impressed if it is anything other than camera trickery or CGI, basically anything technologically involved as IMO it is pretty easy these days to 'fool' and audience in this way.

Whilst watching i was incredibably impressed TBH, i suppose we will see tonight, TBF to the man, DB is usually pretty good, especially compared to the other david blaine

I'm sure this will be the real explanation but I imagine the explanation tonight will be part of the trick.

I think you're right there. I really can't see him coming out and saying it was a trick using camera's!

Maybe he just had that feeling that it was going to be his week!? :)

I'd have been more impressed if DB had shouted out each number literally a second before it rolled out of the machine. The bloke who calls out the numbers as the balls drop into the shute on the regular lottery draw is freaky... sometimes he seems to say the number before the ball has even settled in the hole! :smt119

My predictiuon stands, that it will be nothing that anyone on here have come up with.

I have my own idea, but am duty bound not share it on public forums, sorry.

This is complete b*llocks. Moderately interesting tricks but f*ck all to do with his lottery trick. Don't forget this is all magic/camera trickery. FACT.

Looking forward to picking up my £20 from saint_clark, I have to say.

I reckon he genuinely believed all this rubbish would result in something that works. Then, when he realised after a few dry runs and a couple of positive results notwithstanding that it was just not repeatable, he brought in a few fake cameras and voila, no breach of contract with Ch4, here's your program.

Excuse me? I never agreed to a bet with you

If there is no maths involved in the final prediction, Baj will get £20. No-one else.

See, the average number is interesting but at the end of the day it's still a random number, no better chance than any other number... but it is a formed from a group of random numbers :/ but the coin trick thing is half clever I guess. Predicting the random is oxymoron though.

If 24 people chose a random number between 1 and 50 and you took the average, it would be close to (if not) 25, every time...

The coin trick has NOTHING to do with "deep maths", they didnt just flick 3 and then end, you can see they were looking for 3 in the sequence of many MANY tosses.

you are far more likely to find a mix of H and T than 3 in the row of 1 type. More missdirection

What a shocking lack of integrity.

You don't still think this is a mathematical equation do you?

Oh well,David Blaine is on after this.

I remember well, laughing at him in a drunken state as he was in his box on the south bank.

Now, thats magic/illusion/bollix.

Why?

I told you earlier in the thread that the bet was first come, first serve.

He's already robbed you for a fiver, so you only need to draw another 15 out of the hole in the wall tomorrow clarky.

1) The 'helpers' didn't see the maths behind their prediction.

2) They had then bought into the idea and saw statistically it had a chance.

Therefore, it's a damned fix.

We had a bona fide bet, remember. Please send £10 of what you owe me to the first witness who can substantiate this.

He just went straight for the conclusion.

So it was camera trickery after all then. I am a wee bit disappointed as he did say that people at home would be able to replicate it. That sort of camera trickery is not really accesible to a normal Joe like us is it.

so, how did he do it..?

Apparently he fixed the machine (or didn't) but would never admit to it because he never did it.

I doubt his cheeky grin will stand up when the lawyers come knocking though.

 I'll be amazed if he doesn't get sued for that.

Baj, you'll need to PM me your address so I can send you the £20.

Rattlehead, you can f*ck off.

You have a PM :D
