I was hoping Coppell would take us up to the nice round five ex-lower league managers on the staff at St Mary's.

But as that isn't happening, there must be room at SMS for the man who broke (and holds) our transfer record outlay, surely?

Any memories along the lines of "I remember where I was the day we appointed Mick Wadsworth" please add them below.

I reckon par is four replies, one of which being sensible.

Very nice bloke.

Shame about a lot of the comments made about him, Lowe put him in a very awkward position. He tried, he failed.

... He tried to sort out some "player power" situations ....... and got absolutely no Support from Lowe ........

.... Funny that .... Lowe Kra*ping on Managers ........

And did it again at Northampton.

As with most (ok, all) of our coaches who ended up as manager, he was better off being a coach.

I can't disagree with that to be fair.

Atleast he gave it a go, there was more to Lowe then people realised, but hey ho, he is history now.

Thank god

Would have him back as a reserves/youth coach tomorrow, we had some brilliant coaches at the end of our premier league era and I would welcome most of them back. If only we could convince Mr Prosts to live out his retirment at Staplewood.

I think the main problem was ..just that ..he was a nice bloke, (too nice ).

Had a lot of respect from the players, and did well in the coaching role ..but as manager....forget it ! He had a plateful when he took over after Hoddle's " disappearance " and suffered the loss of Katchloul and MLT at the end of the season. He started the next season with ; Delap at LB (another out of position choice), no Dodd, Beattie on the bench and lost Dean Richards to Spurs after 4 games. At that moment we were bottom of the league and he was out of the door. Sorry Stuart you deserved better.

I think that this was just the first of several situations that RL got himself into. Having " lost, misplaced or deserted " his manager(s), there was always a great deal of indecision and long delay in getting " proper " replacements.

The same fate that had afflicted Dave Merrington (perhaps the best youth team manager we've ever had) 7 years earlier, would befall Steve Wigley (another fine youth coach) and the even Doddsie - in later years.

Rupert Lowe never learned one important rule of management..if you're going to sack a manager, make sure you've got the new man in place the next day.

Every subsequent day of indecision seemed like a week and the media had a field day (every time) at the clubs expense.

It's all happening with ex Saints' and managerial positions.

Looks like Hockaday has finished his garden and now going to tend the Forest! http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4589459.Hockaday_lands_Forest_Green_job/

Berkovic is being linked with the Isreal Job!

And Reid has quit his post in Thailand to work as assistant to Pulis at Stoke.

At Northampton, the board told him he had to cut costs, and sold all his best players.

Having sold all his best players and weakened his squad, they then fired him when they lost games.

I wonder if their next move will to appoint a dynamic Dutch duo who have never worked together before and try to play total football with a squad whose average age is about 18.....

What are you on about - it sounds a bit like the Sturrock situation you're describing, but you never were one for detail you swivel eyed lunatic.

Gray was just rubbish for us.
