Indeed it all sounds good!

Fingers crossed for a win at Charlton. Proving we can beat the leaders would hopefully set a winning trend.

What article? The only link I can see is the one from the OS ?

I meant the piece ON the official site had been removed from the news index, but it's been moved back again now. Probably just someone clicking the wrong button at SMS.

Was Brentford manager when he featured in the C4 programme Faking It. Was quite amusing. I think Wally can definately be thought of as 'old school'.

This was rumoured at the time AP took over. Surprised it took so long. Maybe PArds feels that he needs some help improving morale and banishing the losing ethos that the club seems to have....

I see - yes it did hang when I went to it. I just canned it and tried again and it was OK.

Let me tell you - this is an awesome appointment.

''Wally'' was one of the pivotal figures in readings record breaking season. the reading lads loved him, he was part of the amazing team spirit they had together - he was part of their celebrations when they scored quite a lot of the time.

Think of him as a character similar to Glynn Snodin, who i also thought was a huge loss for us. (i can assure you that he has had a big impact in leeds current form...)

He's an extremely infectious character and specialises in the defensive side of the game - another reason why reading have been so tight in defense (even when they were in the premiership).

This is a huge signing for us IMO - another top appointment by Pards.

Did he write his own wiki entry?

Downes then once again rejoined Coppell, this time at Reading F.C., initially on a casual basis, but quickly proved himself invaluable, and took on the job of coaching Reading's defence. As a result, Downes was a major reason for Reading's impressive defensive display in the 2005-06 Championship season, where Reading had the best defensive statistics in the entire English football pyramid, and were promoted to the Premier League with a record 106 points.

Sounds a very astute hiring.

Good stuff, thanks for the info !

*ahem* 20 for motivation, determination and man management me thinks MLG....

:D

I won't touch any new staffs attributes until the Football Manager 2010 January update. Hence Harding, Murty, Hammond, Lambert, Papa Waigo, Jaidi, Mellis, Wilkins, Pardew, Downes, Murdoch and Trotman will have all have been done solely by their former clubs researcher.

I'd need to see them in action over a few months in order to make an informed decision.

Walley Downes will know Graeme Murty well. Its a shame Murty is currently injured, but it must be good for Saints to have them both here.

Yes, any news on Murty ? McLaggon has resumed light training which is good news but no update on the OS regarding Murty-why am I not surprised though !

Too true - need somebody who is a bit more vocal, channel that us vs. them camaraderie to productive ends. alot of our players seem a tad too withdrawn.

Just needs Coppell to come in as Sporting Director and we'll have an awesome management and coaching structure, probably our best ever? And the best outside the top half of the Premier League.

Even if the reults aren't quite how we would like them to be, AP has certainly delivered in terms of rebuilding the squad and support staff. More power to him and I really am looking forward to watching Papa Doc play for saints - has anybody found any footage of him on utube?

Steve Coppell joining in the near future is looking more and more likely now :D

I reckon he'll be here as sporting director/director of football before next season. A very good thing as long as Pardew is happy with it and their roles don't overlap in any way.

With Downes there, It will make watching the dugout more fun than watching on the pitch. I wonder if Henderson is going to leave then?

I think Henderson will now focus on the acadamy and reserves full time.

It seems as if Downes / Wilkins / Murdoch have come in as just first team coaches...leaving the likes of henderson to retreat back to the academy.

Hopefully we can recruit some more people in that area too - we've never replaced Prost and i don't think we've really got a proper youth development manager. I know Matt Crocker is part of that...but im not sure if he's full time anymore.

Wally out, he's crap, he can't coach for toffee blah blah...

I'm only following the trend that's part of this forum.

Wecome Wally to Southampton football club.

careful the numpties will not like that postive talk:D good appointment and another step on the road to recovery.

With over 200 appearances for Wimbledon under his belt, Downes left the Crazy Gang to move into coaching in the late 1980's

If he gets fit enough, we could stick him on the playing staff, and give him squad number 40. Maybe some WD40 would sort Svensson's knees out...

We were at school together in West London, in the same year. He was in the first team (naturally), I was in the 4th!

Funny to see the photo of him above...it looks like he's as fat as me these days!

He's definitely a character!

Anyone who wants to beat the crap out of Neil Warnock is OK by me.

Heard an interview with him a while ago and instantly liked the bloke after he said he disliked Neil Warnock!

Is it me, or do I sense everything moving in the right direction...and with the defence tightening up the first victory can't be too far away. Maybe Charlton is too early(1:1), but the following week..
