sotonjoe Posted 5 September, 2009 Posted 5 September, 2009 He left us because his loan expired. But it is true that he refused to play for Wolves when they were relegated. Things have moved on now though, at the age of 32 he is not the player he was (though more than good enough for us) and would probably take a drop if the money was OK, after all at the moment he is unemployed. By the way we would have to wait for his work permit application to be granted of course. Ok, let me reword it ... he had no interest in making his loan signing permanent because we were relegated.
VectisSaint Posted 5 September, 2009 Posted 5 September, 2009 Ok, let me reword it ... he had no interest in making his loan signing permanent because we were relegated. Do you know if he was offered a chance to stay? I doubt Herr Lowe would have ratified it following relegation. I agree that he did not relish a drop down to a lower division as I said, hence he left Wolves. But that was 5 years ago, and he is now getting on a bit. Personally if there was any legs in this story (and I doubt there is) then we should bend over backwards to get him to sign. One of the most exciting players to grace SMS for Saints ever.

Whether Lowe actually offered a contract that was refused or if he didn't bother because he knew it wouldn't be signed is irrelevant. The point remains the same; Camara would never have played for Saints as a championship side and has shown the same anti- lower league attitude with other clubs. If he's going to drop to a yet lower league, he would be showing a huge change in character and I would be absolutely amazed.
ART Posted 5 September, 2009 Posted 5 September, 2009 Ok, let me reword it ... he had no interest in making his loan signing permanent because we were relegated. That is a load of bull. He was one of the players that wanted to stay, and stating at the time his time at Saints was one of the happiest in his career. Lowe wasn't prepared to sign him, at the time I think we'd have had to pay 2 million when Lowe was halving salaries, selling all the top players. He's a very sensitive guy, a devout Christian, leads a clean existance, and whenever the supporters got behind him he put everything into his game. Several clubs the supporters treated him terribly during a time when he was injured and again the refusal to return to Wolves. At that time he was a top player in the International team. He's 32 now and a decent contract offer, especially seeing his mate Papa Waigo is now at the club and I'm certain he's return here. This is the type of player with our new financial clout that we should be signing to fill the stadium and get us moving in the right direction.
ART Posted 6 September, 2009 Posted 6 September, 2009 FFS! After yesterday's game, the signing of a player of Camara's standing becomes an absolute necessity. Firstly in order to score goals, and therefore win matches. Secondly in finding an attractive player who will bring back the crowds to the Stadium. Failure to do so will result in a disaster all round. Just how much have we actually spent out since Marcus Lieherr took over? No one has done a count of the spending by the new owner. I don't think anything beyond what we've obtained through the sales of Dyer, McGoldick and Surnam. In fact less. I thought we were going to see investment in the team. So it's time for Cortese and Liebherr to stump some cash to bring in Camara for a start. We don't even have a board of Directors still and the last remnant of the Lowe, Crouch and Wilde era still sits twiddling his sums in the Accounts office. We must spend and spend now. Exisiting is not what the supporters awaited from the Liebherr takeover. Let us live and live now.

I would be suprised if he hadn't got a brace, and probably brought Lambert into the mix to net a couple too... Oh, if only!
kpturner Posted 6 September, 2009 Posted 6 September, 2009 That 4-3 game versus Norwich is possibly the best saints game I have seen in my entire life. Then you are on obviously a youngster. Two hopeless, hapless teams who couldn't defend to save their lives - both showing why the were destined for the drop. Was exciting when HC scored though.

Nice post ART, good that someone could put some of the stuff in a bit of perspective. By the way, is there anything in this link of Camara with Saints, or are we (mostly) all just dreaming that a creative and gifted player like HC in the twilight of his career could actually come back to SFC for one last hurrah?
Arizona Posted 6 September, 2009 Posted 6 September, 2009 Then you are on obviously a youngster. Two hopeless, hapless teams who couldn't defend to save their lives - both showing why the were destined for the drop. Was exciting when HC scored though. Pretty much how I remember that game too. I say remember, I wasn't there, but there were about 25 mins of highlights on MOTD and I was crapping myself watching Soccer Saturday. Every time one team had possession in the others half, you thought they'd score, and they usually did in the first half. Liverpool would have to be our best performance of that season.
Amesbury Saint Posted 6 September, 2009 Posted 6 September, 2009 When that goal went in, I'm sure that's the loudest SMS has ever been. excellent match excellent result in otherwise **** season

ringwood Posted 6 September, 2009 Posted 6 September, 2009 when will people get dates and cash amounts in true order, all the sales Art mentions meant the club survived, they paid the wages whats the problem with the board? nowt dosesn't score any goals as far as I can see and the accountant still there well so what , didn't see him let in last minute goals either just because you buy 11 players doesn't make a team of world beaters, look at Aug and Sept as the pre season, then play all the new team together then assess it
WheresRory Posted 6 September, 2009 Posted 6 September, 2009 Camara is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. Yes he'd be great in league 1, but would he want to play here? I bet he thinks he can get a premiership or at least CCC move. Although I was amazed we got Waigo, so anything is possible. And as if by magic... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Henri-Camara-set-to-join-Portsmouth-s-survival-scrap-article147317.html

Al de Man Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 When exactly was he our owner? "their fans may also forgive him for the fact that he paid for neighbours Southampton"
ART Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 And as if by magic... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Henri-Camara-set-to-join-Portsmouth-s-survival-scrap-article147317.html This is terrible news if he signs for the bar stewards. A one year contract to play in another relegation battle. We should be offering him a 3 yr contract to play for us with his good mate Papa Waigo. Come on Pas Dieu, make us proud and scupper the deal and sign him.
Matthew Le God Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 Henri Camara signing for Pompey "could" be a good thing. May help Papa Waigo settle quicker in a new country as they'd be living close to each other.

PaulSaint Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 Isnt Camara a bit of a jinx when it comes to staying up?
krissyboy31 Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 Isnt Camara a bit of a jinx when it comes to staying up? What at Celtic and Wigan?
The9 Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 Yeah, I was there that night. We were playing so poorly but when he came on the game completely changed. We still lost, but without him we wouldn't have even come close to getting something. He also gave us fans at the pompey 4-2 defeat something to cheer with his goal there. Blimey, I've just spent 4 years repressing those memories, only for someone to post the scoreline wrongly and me to have the inner turmoil of whether I should correct it or continue pretending the whole thing never happened. It... was... four... one... :smt013

sfc6mufc3 Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 Would be a good addition seeing as we have let go/sold strikers in Rasiak, Mcgoldrick, BWP, Euell and John and replaced that lot with Lambert and possibly Wiago (if he doesn't occupy the wing).

For thet shyt hole on the coast?,,,,,,Nar dont beleve it There's already plenty of evidence above to indicate that Camara would rather play for any old cack in the Prem than anyone outside it... as he's already a Wolves, Stoke and Wigan reject he's only got you lot and Hull to do and he's got the set. In the interests of impartiality I should point out that Saints' Prem pedigree is such that we have accrued more seasons in the top division than those 5 teams combined.

Windmill Arm 2 Posted 7 September, 2009 Posted 7 September, 2009 Henri Camara is off to the fish fookers if you believe the sun.
SaintRobbie Posted 8 September, 2009 Posted 8 September, 2009 Henri Camara is off to the fish fookers if you believe the sun. Wouldnt blame him, but would just love to see him back and finish his time as a Saint! Henri - you could become a legend here. Do it! Come over to the red and white side of 'ampshire... surely you dont want to relegate with the Skates.
ART Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 I still haven't read about Camara signing for anyone or coming to an agreement with Skates. Now they've signed Danny Webber from Sheffield Wednesday I guess Camara is still available. This is really one signing I'd like to see. He's 32 now and a 2-3 year contract is probably what he's after so with Waigo here he'd surely find such an offer interesting. We're not filling St Mary's, and to do so we have to start consistantly winning, playing attractive football, OR signing players who excite and are an attraction in the team. I'm certain a player like Camara would add an additional 4 or 5000 to the gates.
saint_stevo Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 Webber was a free agent btw, and very much a Championship player at best
OldNick Posted 10 September, 2009 Posted 10 September, 2009 they seem to be preparing for the CCC and hope o bounce straight back

Seaford Saint Posted 22 October, 2009 Posted 22 October, 2009 I really liked Camara, a goal in 3 games was it? What position did he play, he wandered about a bit
