There are 40 games to play with 120 pts available to us this season. The play offs were reached with 76 points last year, we need a further 83 to copy that.

So if we win 25 draw 8 and lose 7 we will reach 83 pts, this is a win rate of 62.5 %

We have a great squad that I believe will have another couple added during the season.

The season starts Sat .. lets get this promotion party started !!!!!!

Lol! The season started weeks ago! You've missed seven matches already!

If this ignorance is typical of our fans, no wonder we can't fill the stadium.

That cracked me up :p

Sadly we didn't have the best close season in terms of building the club back up but it looks like we havethe right people in place and finally a squad that should be able to do well. In that sense I think he is right and this is the start for us.

What we still have to contend with is the negative, losing mentality of the club. Whether Pardew can turn that round this seaosn only time will tell, but I think that is his biggest problem.

Of cousre all those who derried the likes of Woodward will not agree, but we could sure use someone here with those skills to help the manager change the "attitude" prevailing at the club.

Still, whatever, we need to start winning, and soon.

Does this still exist though? we have replaced all but 2 outfield players plus pretty much all the backroom staff and board. Ssurely that pretty much constitutes a new team and so, in theory, remove all mental baggage from last season?

The only thing still hanging around from the dark days is us, and our mentality will not lose us any points this season.

Bottom Line is that the original poster is 100% correct, There are more than enough points left to play for this season to make it a successfull one. That is what should be being preached to the players ...... Positive Thinking.

Hmm, 'm not so sure that the fans help in that important 60min to 85min period. We get nervous and that spreads to the pitch, especially at home.

There is plenty of negativity amongst the fanbase still and I really hope we can overcome the jitters we get in the closing stages of a game.

That's not to say that the support hasn't been fantastic most of the time! We are well supported in numbers and for 75% of the 90 mins we give very vocal support. It's the 10-15 minutes that we have become so used to conceding - and the fans DO go quiet for a period in every game.

As for the original post - indeed there are plenty of points to play for and we may well have a very good run at some point. I just wish the players and the fans would concentrate on the upcoming game only and focus on the next 3 points.

We can't "get rid of" the minus points yet, it'll take at least another 3 games for that! We should be thinking of every game as it comes and maximise the points from each one.

If we are clear of the deficit by the ends of Sept and out of the bottom four by Xmas, that will be real progress.

Annoying threads like this seem to be appearing every week!!! We lose, something mildly positive happens off the field and then our season promises to start the week after. We lose, something mildly positive happens off the field and then our season promises to start the week after.

Bullsh*t. Won't believe it until we win 5 in a row. And it needs to happen soon because for the players we have it is an embarrassment.

well when the season started we were only 10pts from safety

Now we are 11 pts away

Oh

By a whisker, in that mighty Wycombe have a minus 1 point worse goal difference, otherwise it is 12 points away from safety.

All our new players are rubbish, even the ones we haven't seen play yet. Relegation in my opinion.

Everyone out. Except Pulis. He can stay.

Absolutely - why not?

Completely agree.

Like Pardew says, let's get rid of these -10 points, try and get to midtable and then let's see where we are. If that takes til Xmas/New Year, then let's spend wisely in January and go on a Sunderland-esque run and get into the playoffs. If it takes longer then let's try and finish the season strongly and win it next year.

Are you sure AP said that?

Sounds suspiciously like the ghost of Burley past to me.

We would appear to have refreshed 8-9 positions in the starting X1, and have probably got the best bench in the league, though we do still look a bit short up front. C'mon Al, let's have a bit of ambition, how 'bout we win our next three games?

Not knocking, I'm quite happy to judge AP over two seasons (subject of course to us staying up this season, though that looks a bit more likely now if these work permits are sorted and one or two are back from injury).

We go&get a result at Charlton next Sat (in addition to winning tmrw), i might dare to dream or whatever horsesh*t Sky is spouting this year.

Charlton gives us the opportunity to really test ourselves and send out a statement; with slow but steady progress since Huddersfield/Swindon, I don't think it will take much for us to turn that elusive corner and for the players to start believing. provided we win...

What would you rather have? Some like Harry "We'll go up f'sure" Redknapp (and no we didn't f'sure) or someone who is pragmatic and realistic?
