Poll: Happy with our signings this season?

I think everything has been written that needs to be. Very happy, with the only concern being how long it will take to gel as a unit. That said, I have been impressed by the way the club seems to be turning itself around now we have decent owner and management.

Colchester may not know it yet but they are going to be the first home victims of the season in the league and I can't wait. Expect to leave the ground feeling a whole lot better on Saturday.

It's clear to me that Pardew:

1. Understood we had no leadership in midfield - so signed Hammond.

2. Understood we were weak at the back - so signed Murty, Harding, Jaidi.

3. Understood we had no pace - so signed Papa Wayne.

4. Understood we needed a more potent goal threat - so signed Lambert.

How anyone can be critical of him at this juncture is now beyond me.

He has clearly attemtped to rectify five years worth of problems in three weeks.

What a fecking shame it's taken two relegations and eight managers to get here...

He also identified a lack of height in the side, mostly costing us at set-pieces, and signed 6 players over 6ft. Absolutely crucial for this league

Subject to work permits etc, I'm happy with the plans that AP seems to be putting into place. He appears to have identified our (obvious) deficiencies, and has been busy addressing them.

I'd expect continuous improvement across the next month or so, and would like to see a winning (or very tough to beat) team by the end of September. (Ok, wouldn't mind beating Colchester, but you know what I mean)

A lot of people moaning as always that we didn't get Ronaldo or Torres etc. But would be nice to see how the more sensible supporters see our transfer activity this season?

With Hammond,Trotman,Lambert,Mellis,Harding,Murty,Jaidi and Papa Waigo that makes 8 new players in just under a month.

A very busy time for the club then in terms of people incoming.

So how do you see it, happy with those 8 players or not happy?

Personally im very happy :)

Very happy. Onwards and upwards.

Most happy since today's announcements re Jaidi and Papa. AP has achieved wonders in such a short time. I agree with most of the sentiments on this thread- nice to see nearly everyone positive. Now all we need are two quick work permits granted and a load of wins, starting on Saturday.:p

I'm happy..... clappy..... :D

Edit: oooh now I can edit. Actually I have one wish but that is probably beyond Pardew's influence. I want one or several of our players to stay here for 5+ seasons and be a regular. I need a Dodd or a Benali that will epitomise the club even if the squad changes from season to season...

I completely agree. This is beginning to look like a team with real possibilities. It may take a few weeks more though for it to "gel". But these are finally exciting times again!

What a difference a day makes, eh ??

Yesterday the mood on here was desolate, with some even questioning Liebherr's motives and spending intentions !

Let's hope that this positive thread represents a new unity on this forum and beyond !!!

(ps. I'm not holding my breath!).

Absolutely delighted after today.Rumour is that the 3rd player signing touted yesterday will also happen a bosman free and we have still got the loan market to exploit if we feel we need to or have injuries to cover.

If everyone gets fit we will have a terrific subs bench aswell as 1st choice 11 Davis,Murty,Trotman,Jaid,Harding,Papa,James,Hammond,Mills,Saga,Lambert Subs Bart,Thomas,Perry,Lallana,Morgan,Holmes,Patterson or Mclaggon,Gillett & Mellis.Looks very promising. Also no Wotton,Lancashire or Pulis and players like Thompson,Gobern & White could go out on loan.

Just need the team to gel and I could then see us going on a 10-15 game unbeaten stretch here's hoping!!

On paper I'm pleased, we've signed the one striker I was hoping we would, Rickie Lambert, a midfielder with experience at this level, Dean Hammond and both Papa Wiago Jaidi look to be high calibre players for league one. I've always been an admirer of Murty, so pleased we've got him, just hope he recovers from injury soon, Mellis and Trotman have potential and Dan Harding has been very impressive so far, my player of the month for August.

Just hope they all gel together soon and we start picking up some points.

Deelighted! That Pardew bloke seems to understand the bleeding obvious when it slaps us in the face every game and now we have an owner who backs him to do something about it. Surely this isn't the same team I've been supporting for all these years.

I'll wake up soon and it'll all be a dream. We'll have some Dutch clowns pretending that 17-year-olds are the way forward and that we play the best football in the world. All the fans will be boycotting games because of the chairman and we'll be selling/loaning out anyone who has experience and ability.

A sensible, rational approach to rebuilding a broken structure !

We are now pretty much set up to move forward, Cortese and Pardew have done exactly what they said they would do and you can't say fairer than that !

Quoted because it is true. A great job done by Saints in the short time since taking the reigns.

The problem is that we won't gel over night - and that will cause some more moaning on here.......

Just gotta grin and mention the Gellin' thing

What we fans must realise it will take time for the team to gel. I, for one, think this will be sooner rather than later, but not straight away. When this happens, the only way is up. COYS

Just so we can get this clear, and we all know, how long can "The Gelling Period" excuse be used if we are not preforming?

perhaps we could have a countdown timer?

I think I remember someone like Sir Bobby Robson (God rest his soul) saying on tv that it took teams about 5 or 6 games to gel properly.

He was talking about the pressures of being an international manager and getting the team to bond quickly

Signings on paper seem astute - I have been excited about signings before and been very disappointed so will reserve judgement until they prove there worth.

The team needed a full overhaul and this is happening - lets hope there is no hic-up wth work permits and maybe a couple more cheeky loans......

At last a balanced view. Agree with this entirely.

Very very happy with Signings Pardew has seen where we needed improving & bought good quality players in 1 of our problems was we were too small the players he has bought have added much needed hieght to our team.

He has changed the back 4 Jaihdi is a great signing so is Murty Trottman looks very good & the more I see of Harding the more I like him all very good signings

Hammond looks a good player Mellis has potential looked good 1st half v Brum

Lambert is quality a proper centre forward we just need to give him the service Feed the Lamb & he will Score Papa looks on paper a good signing cant wait to see him play & find out how good he is.

Now I think we will find out how good we are Pardew now has his team he can get them focused on the job now the window is shut & i expect the results to come I dont think we will get out of the league this season but would expect us to next.

Really looking forward to saturday we are due a result COYR UTS

imo Lambert's arrival was the biggest "statement" of intent - and it showed there is an element of ambition. AP has done well considering the lack of time and back room staff - now we just need to sign a shrink to toughen the players up mentally.

On the playing side I agree, but I do believe the biggest statement of intent was Markus and Nic axing Wotte and appointing Pardew!

It then followed that Pardew with the backing of ML/NC has recruited well!

I feel optimistic that this promising side Pards has put together will give us a good show this season.

This is a great thread.....hugely enjoyable with all the positivity.

Signings are great and it looks like we are building an excellent squad.

Sat. might be tough though as I saw on another thread, it unlikely the work permits will be ready (plus Senegal have a friendly so no papa).......and Saga will be with Poland

Very happy, but would be even happier if we could nail down Trottman to a permanent move or at least on loan till the end of the season before PNE realise how good he is

From what I have seen of Lambert and Hammond they are both exactly what we needed and Harding has been close to being Man of the Match in each of the 3 games I have seen (and seems to be a ready made replacement for Drew and Rudi in applauding the fans at the end of the match :D). Not seen too much of Murty, but once again another good pro who knows what is needed at this level and hopefully will make a full recovery as his experience could be crucial in an end of season push into the play offs!! What a crying shame we couldn't have got all this sorted out 3 weeks earlier and start the season on a more even playing field :(

Fingers crossed that Jaidi and Papa get their work permits sorted, but for me the most crucial 'signing' was that of Kelvin Davis. Already this season he has made some stunning saves and by the mere fact that he chose to stay with us rather than go to WHU (albeit to be no 2) shows he had faith in the new regime and that could have a been a positive sign to other players that have since arrived. Also now that Saga seems to be staying if he gets into the right mood mentally he could well be an important player for us as he has the skill to skin defences at this level with good diagonal runs and quick turns in the box.

Feeling very positive and really beleive we can sneak into the play offs, especially if we pick up a couple of more players in the Jan window.

Well done to Pardew and all the back ground staff and of course the new regime for making me feel good about the club for a change ;)
