Fowllyd Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 OK, I must have dreamt that AP said he was hoping to bring in Three players .... ( For some strange reason, that last Fosters barrel must have had Two grains of yeast in it . ) Did say he wanted 3 Wanting/hoping and expecting are different things, n'est-ce pas? My point was that Pardew's comments were general rather than specific. I'd agree that it was daft of the OS to fuel the speculation yesterday morning though - best to keep one's counsel until the ink's dry on the contract I reckon. Saint_Ash Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Excellent getting Jaidi in (IF we get him in) I think with him playing, two or three of the draws we've had would have been wins as we were leading the games and just needed the experience and brick sh1thouse at the back to ensure we see the games out. Now when the loan window opens maybe we just need a pacey winger and a striker and we're sorted. We should be pretty strong I reckon and hopefully we'll see a string of wins and be out of the minus points buy the end of the month, hopefully we'll be on about +3. Still a lot of hard work ahead though and we just have to be patient, going to be a couple of months before we see ourselves overtaking other teams, but we have 41 games to go yet with a possible 123 points up for grabs. Looking forward to Saturday now this stupid window is over!
Clifford Nelson Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Pardew has been raving about Lallana and saying he is not going anywhere - where do you think he is going to use him as clearly sees him as first team player Let's not forget another player held very high in AP's esteem: Morgan Schneiderlin. A lot of competition for midfield places, but sadly nothing wide and pacy, at least not until Fish and Sicknote recover to fight out the LM berth. Nexstar Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Solid defence when Murty gets back and Jaidi is an aerial threat in both boxes. Al so good that he's been training with the squad. Still hoping we get at least one loan in before Saturday.
Rebel Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Can't loan any players for a week as the emergency loan window doesn't open until then but according to the BBC the emergency loan window only applies to the Premier League and the CCC - not League 1or 2 if this is true we can only sign unattached players now

Minsk Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Nah that's not true. The emergency loan window doesn't apply to The Premier League. Kasey Keller ? As I have said elsewhere, it is my understanding that the transfer and loan window has closed throughout all of Europe EXCEPT the football leagues (CCC, Leagues 1 and 2). The exception to this rule is for very real emergencies to vital positions (which just about only means GOALKEEPERS). When we loaned in KK it was because all of our goalkeepers were injured, and we had to get special dispensation to do so.

Kadeem Hardison Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I'm guessing that the natural pecking order prevents us getting in some players. Now that the teams in the top flights have the window closed and know what they are working with they will be more likely to offer out loans. I'm guessing Pardew would rather have someone from a top team come here on loan for the season than spend money on second best (face facts - we are in League 1, this is the kind of calibre we are likely to get). Asaint4ever Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I'm beginning to feel a little sick at people's ambitions on this site. Do people realise their's a recession going on, do they realise that money is tight. Can they shut the F*** up about spending millions and millions and millions, just to satisfy their Harry Redcrapp method of FM! Pinnacle f**ked up our best chances in the transfer market. There was never enough time to purchase the best players which had already been purchased or tapped up. We were left with the dreggs, which, for some former Chairman, would've been enough and we would be inundated with cr*p journeymen and players looking for a last payday on the medi table. Instead, we have signed an excellent striker, 2 very good backs, a good couple of midfielders and now Jaidi, who is exactly what we need alomng with the other CB. We have done well. We have also held into Saga, Spiderman, Lalana and Davis! F*ck me, you lot make me sick! This is the most players and the most money we could've ever hoped to have spent. And we have a good manager who didn;t just buy sh*t to appease you whining idiots. To me, sounds like there are a few bitter pompey posters posting on here. Either that or ex-Loweites whinging about the new regime. Because I don;t get you lot. Much Much Much better than this time last season! Plus we've been through admin! What do you want BLOOD! well said mate! i agree with everything you say there!
Gordon Mockles Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Very good signing, subject to permit being validated. Defending set pieces has always been a problem yet with Jaidi, Trotman, Thomas (if at RB) and Hammond and Lambert in the squad, we'll dominate the air better than coallition air forces over Iraq! I assume Jaidi's been brought it to assist then replace Trotman who leaves in January. I'm hoping the loan system is on the agenda and we bring in a decent forward and right winger (with pace). People need to stop moaning and consider how far we've come from the train wreck left by Lowe (thanks to the catalogue of idiotic decisions made during the club's darkest days - i.e The Lowe era). People need to realise the sheer damage that tyrant made of SFC but, thankfully, Mr Liebherr saved us. Rebuilding doesn't happen overnight (not helped by the mysterious Pinnacle charade!). The club mentioning 3 or so transfers may not have helped but maybe that's still on the radar through loans. I am confident we're moving in the right directions. Clearly, need the results. All good things.... Least Pardew's identifying and addressing the glaringly obvious problems that have been neglected for so long. He's building from the back, as it should be done. As someone else stated, he's no fool so give him time and he will turn us into a force to be reckoned with.
PokingFun Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 No, I don't want Blood ....... but when the Manager himself says that he still needs to strenghten, and, indee, he "expects" to bring in thre New Players ..... I'm sorry ... but I DO expect SOMETHING to materialise I know we've been "saved" ... but at the same time, I, like others listen to the rhetoric of Mr Cortese/Pardew .... and from that, YES, I expected more than what we have got If, on the other hand, they had said that nothing else was going to happen until January ... then I would have had to put up with it wouldn't I ??? I think they were 'trying' to bring in some new faces. Sometimes the targets they have are not available or don't work out for a number of reasons. Would you rather we had signed people for the sake of it even if they would not improve the team just so your expectation is satisfied?
Viking Warrior Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Good post Johnsmith. my sentiments exactly, however I don't think its down so much to lowelites more to the fact people just like to moan. Onwards and upwards, I can't wait to get to a game and I have a season ticket. But distance and work commitments prevent me from getting down to SMS
Blandford saint Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Club did say that we wouldn't apply for a work permit unless we were pretty sure that it will go through, so should be an excellent signing - progress must have been made regarding the paperwork to announce something now. Have to say that most of the signings at the end of the window have been pretty desperate, (not just Pompey's) hope over experience stuff. I'd rather hang on to get a decent loanee than act in haste and get stuffed with a 3 year contract for someone distinctly average. The winger with equivalent quality to Jaidi does not appear to be available, so best to wait - you can't spend the same money twice.

Would you rather we had signed people for the sake of it even if they would not improve the team just so your expectation is satisfied? No .... I would have expected them to have remained "tight lipped" .. as they have previously done ... UNTIL thet could have announced DEFINITE news ... as opposed to what they "think" may happen IMHO, one of the "attractions" of the New Regime was their Proffessionalism, which, regarding the Window Scenario ... seemed to be lacking IMHO

Bailey Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Fantastic news that Jaidi has finally signed. He's a big, no-nonsense defender who is a tremendous asset to have when attacking and defending set-pieces. Securing his signature has been a long, drawn-out process but I'm relieved it's all done and dusted now. With this latest addition, our defence is starting to take shape and it's good to see that we now have a number of options at the back. Perry, Thomas, Trotman and Jaidi are all more than capable in this division, and this signing also enables Lancashire to go out on loan to gain some much needed experience. niceandfriendly Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 This is a great signing, I'm very surprised to see so many people being so negative. He is the sort of player that we've been calling out for for years and we've finally got one - and he's free! I hope the "formalities" of the work permit are sorted soon, perhaps in time for Saturday if he's fit enough. Does anyone actually know for definate that he's been training with the squad? the saint in winchester Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Subject to work permit clearance. The deal will be done when he is given the green light. Have I missed something? Didn't he fail the requirement to be granted a work permit a month ago? Are we trying again? Appealing? Or just pretending we didn't understand the first time? Has something changed in his circumstances? or the regulations? I'm hoping we can bring him in, but this is like asking your mum if you can go out to play when you asked her before and she said no.
