egg Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Clearly on the left wing and I think it might be sometime before he is challenged by Holmes for the place TBH. Personally I would even seriously consider playing him at CM next to Hammond actually (providing he showed commitment to track back) - I think he would terrorise defences in that role and more akin to his attributes IMO. James could be utilised as a RM winger, although I would prefer Thompson for his pace. Disagree. Lallana will play down the right and has only been playing left side due to injuries there. Melis and Thomson give alternatives/back up. People forget that James is a CM and only played RB last season because the dutch boys were idiots - Pardew realises his best position is CM and will play him there with Hammond. We have Wotton and Gillett as back up. Left side between Holmes and Mills when fit. Gobern gives back up. Those are no bad midfield options at this level. With that said a proper winger or two would help, particularly down the right. Pardew is no fool and I have faith that he will address that. DT Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I think this is a good signing. Best to stop leaking the goals, then concentrate on the other end. I still worry about Davis though. The last time we squeezed out the silly mistakes and went on a run was when we had Wright at the back - and his better communication/distribution/awareness. Oh well. At least we now have two CBs of note. And if we could remotivate Saga we'll be good.
John Smith Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I'm beginning to feel a little sick at people's ambitions on this site. Do people realise their's a recession going on, do they realise that money is tight. Can they shut the F*** up about spending millions and millions and millions, just to satisfy their Harry Redcrapp method of FM! Pinnacle f**ked up our best chances in the transfer market. There was never enough time to purchase the best players which had already been purchased or tapped up. We were left with the dreggs, which, for some former Chairman, would've been enough and we would be inundated with cr*p journeymen and players looking for a last payday on the medi table. Instead, we have signed an excellent striker, 2 very good backs, a good couple of midfielders and now Jaidi, who is exactly what we need alomng with the other CB. We have done well. We have also held into Saga, Spiderman, Lalana and Davis! F*ck me, you lot make me sick! This is the most players and the most money we could've ever hoped to have spent. And we have a good manager who didn;t just buy sh*t to appease you whining idiots. To me, sounds like there are a few bitter pompey posters posting on here. Either that or ex-Loweites whinging about the new regime. Because I don;t get you lot. Much Much Much better than this time last season! Plus we've been through admin! What do you want BLOOD! ExSt Peter Saint Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I'm hoping Schneiderlin will up his game now and show us why the French international set-up rate him so highly. He could be the creative midfielder we need if he knuckles down. Once we have people giving him options wide then he'll have more space to exploit. Saga must be due one of those bursts of goals that he gets occasionally. A quick scoring run to get 15 before the next transfer window to spark some interest, maybe. However, we need 4 strikers to have options and unless we go further into the youth team, I think we only have 3 at the moment.

wild-saint Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Personally looking at the entire squad we have a bloody good side. Shame we cant start the season again with this sqaud in place. Hey ho we are only 5 games in Interestingly they showed the new pompey side and the difference between that and the FA cup team. Only James remains, I really feel we would give them a damn good game. fingers crossed for a good FA cup draw (assuming we make the 3rd round) . It's natural to want more signings but also very often the case it doesn't turn out as we'd like. It's really a case of getting behind the squad we have, negativity on here does not obviously transmit to the players but also obviously it can if it's during a game. As I have said before I can put my hand on my heart and say I have never booed a player or the team in over 40 years as it's self defeating. Your post makes perfect sense, but I think an impatience to see the changes come to fruition, and for this fragility after working hard to take the lead to come to an end is perfectly understandable in a set of supporters who havent had much to cheer about for the last 5 years. SaintRichmond Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Pardew said he was looking to strengthen in a couple of areas, nothing more than that. No specific names or targets were mentioned, they've all just been speculation here and elsewhere. Apart from Jaidi, who'd been training with the squad for some time. In what sense is that 'going public'? And what does it matter anyway? And when the hell are you going to lose your obsession with CAPITALS, ........s and 8)s? OK, I must have dreamt that AP said he was hoping to bring in Three players .... ( For some strange reason, that last Fosters barrel must have had Two grains of yeast in it . )
