Is this actually going ahead or is it a rumour?

I think it appears to be a strong rumour Published in the Echo

Despite claims that he would have to elave to play at a higher level, Saganoswki is looking increasingly likely to join League 2 Notts County.

I'd say saga joining county indicates all is not good at saints.

Once again it seems we are being shackled by restrictive wage caps.

So if Notts County are offering him more than we currently pay, you'd offer him a pay-rise to keep him would you?

EDIT: Bungle has put this more succinctly.

Perhaps Notts County are offering him a long contract

Yeah, maybe.

Instead of "more money" read "longer terms". In any case, he is a player who is known to want to leave and is also known to be on a wage which is a perfectly good Chanpionship wage. The notion that his departure to a club in a lower league, who are apparently trying to sign the likes of Nedved, Figo and Larrson (!!!!), therefore means there is discontent in our camp because we are being "shackled" by a wage structure is clearly quite outlandish.

Yes I would,he has played well this season so what's the point in selling an international striker and replace him with somebody else without pedigree?

If you wanna get out of this sh1t league quickly then you need to attract the best players and pay the best wages......I suppose this is what notts county are trying to achieve.

If it is for money, seeing as he's already on near on 10k p/w here, Notts County are heading for disaster if they're offering him alot more.

I cannot believe the wages they are dishing out in L2, they are swinging with the future of that club.

It's fair enough spending those wages top end of the champ, or in the prem - but surely there's no justification in L2?

Makes a farce of that ''supposed'' wage cap too.

Did you miss the bit where they were taken over by billionaires? Will take a long time to spend all that money even in the premiership (unless it's my daughter spending the money)

Maybe we don't want to pay over the odds for a player who clearly is only in it for the money. As much as I like the player good riddance I say, greed is not welcome at our club.

He has said he wants to leave and is probably one of our top three wage earners already (in fact, I expect only Davies earns roughly the same amount?).

If we simply give him a wage increase on that basis we are letting players run the club. It would be ridiculous. The fact that we have not entertained the idea speaks nothing about a "restrictive" wage structure. It points to good management. Further, the fact that we signed the League's top scorer would also seem to be irrefutable evidence that our wage structure is not "restrictive".

He's a decent player but he doesn't merit being way out ahead as our top earner. I'm sure there are plenty of similar quality replacements available.

What an idiot.

What a wordsmith you really are.

Restrictive wage caps and an unwillingness to spend big in the transfer Market playedva massive part in our downfall from the prem.

Our record signing being £4m for Rory delap says it all really, if you also couple this with letiss being the highest paid saints player ever,a player that peaked in the 90's then it shows how far behind everybody else we really were in terms of wages and transfers.

I'm not suggesting we should go out and spend money like water but being one of the bigger clubs in the league we should be able to compete with most clubs in our league and definately all of the clubs in L2,regardless of their financial backing.

A couple of things some people need to realise in this thread.

1) To the person claiming Notts County chairman is acting like a billionaire more than ours is. We have spent more money this window the Notts County. Fact. Wages maybe not but transfer fee's we have.

2) Claiming it is against the rules/spirit of the agreement etc. No it is not. Get your facts right. Donations to the club go towards the turnover of any club. Money the owner wishes to pump into the club, will increase the turnover of the club, therefore the wage budget goes up. Fact.

Its clever. It means people with money can spend it. Its legal. Nobody cares except you by the sounds of it. The people that matter, eg The FA, The Football League, Lawyers etc, know it is perfectly legal.

Get over it you idiots.

Until we put our name to it!! ;)

Ricky Lambert, the joint highest goalscorer in the league last season, signed for us for just over £1million (all told), and according to Bristol Rovers we "more than doubled his wages". We clearly made an attractive offer to the captain of Colchester Utd, a team near the top of the league.

It just goes to show we are spending more money than most of the division, and you simply don't have a clue.

Remeber the season he scored ten in ten was rewarded with a contract and has been lets face it very poor ever since. How can a player of clear ability show such a lack of effort?

Thats the bit that gets me - someone on here will know his goal tally for us and IMHO for an International "striker" he does not score enough.

In terms of a basic wage, in his autobiography, Le Tissier claims that he never earned more than 4000 quid a week. I think we've had many players earning more than that.

Our billionare paid off our debts.........Christ you really are a wind up!!!

He did not pay off our debts. He settled them to acquire the club lock stock and barrel for a bargain 12 million pounds. The club may well be debt free but it no longer is ours. People seem to think ML is a knight in shining armour but that is an illusion. He is a sound businessman with an eye to make SFC into a profit making entity. Without him we could well and truly have been toast, so his arrival can be welcomed but lets not endow him with godlike status just yet.

The thought of just having Paterson and Lambert left as forwards is a real worry too!

Totally agree Duncan if Saga goes I would have thought we need another two

FF, I think that's just playing with words. The point is he did stump up 12m quid to buy the club and the debts are cleared/settled, delete as appropriate.

I did have an interesting conversation with an ex colleague in Geneva though, when ML bought the club the exchange rate was at a historic low. If it goes back to the £1 = 2.2CHF historic level's he'll have made a couple of million £ on the exchange rate alone. Small change for a man of his level of wealth, but £2m is not to be sniffed at. When we reach the prem (uh hum!) the figures will be very very large.

ML does not "need" to do anything. He is his own boss, he owes us nothing and Paterson and Lambert leading our forward line this winter won't undy phase him. No, all eyes should be on Cortese for it is he in charge. Lets hope he knows what he doing. I sincererly hope contingency plans for Saga's departure have at least been hatched if not yet implanted because Paterson is no way ready!

Fair point GS but at the end of the day ML is a wealthy investor not a wealthy benefactor and the sooner we all realise that the better. Now of course if he was a lifelong fan like all of us then it might be different!

I was shouted down when I said he was RL with a kinder and more fan friendly face.

So far he has acted well and you have to learn to walk before you run. It cant be easwy convincing players to join us when they are facing a relegation battle. had we knocked off more points by now I suspect AP's job would have been easier.

Hate to interupt this mud slinging fest, but has it actually been confirmed anywhere that he's going to Notts Co? I can't find anything official anywhere and it would seem a strange move if true. Yes I know they could offer decent money, but they'd probably have to offer him £20k a week for him to give up his international career.

Still, it will be great if he does go. Having no striker at all is way better than having one who isn't scoring. Sure it's just a matter of time before we start winning with Jamie White up front.

I think it is laughable how many people on here have taken this rumour as Gospel and are slagging off someone who may well still be in our starting 11 this weekend.

(Although I doubt that he will be.)

Personally, I would rather wait until there has been official anouncement as to who has gone where and who has come in before I will start crying over milk which could still well be sat in the fridge (even if the top is a bit loose).

Apart from their nationality differences, the fact that one comes from an Engineering background, the other a Financial one, their ages, one being many, many times more wealthy than the other and their entirely different personalities, other than those aspects, you are right. ;)

Hmmm, last season (in a higher division) RL gave us the likes of Forecast, Molyneux, Gasmi, Smith and the world class Anthony Pulis.

So far this season ML has given us Lambert, Hammond, Harding, and Murty, as well as couple of decent young loan players. Oh, and of course he gave Kelvin a new contract.

Yes, I can the similarities!
