70's Mike Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 the tv coverage thread got me thinking of other things that change as you go down the leagues. biggest thing i have noticed is that it is a waste of time and money to buy a sunday paper and look for a decent match report about saints. also watching games and not knowing who the players are , especially away team also leaving home later and getting home earlier from games
Thedelldays Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 quality football packed grounds great atmosphere massive anticipation
rocknrollman no2 Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 quality football packed grounds great atmosphere massive anticipation I would also add to this list Listening to tv coverage about us. Having bragging rights over Pompey. Seeing loads of Saints stickers on cars, vans etc and seeing a lot more people wearing Saints tops outside Southampton.
Saint Martini Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Signing players I know Not being a selling club
Stattmeister Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Topless barmaids at the Alfred. +1 :smt049
Cheeky Monkey Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Havinga full ground. Its so depressing seeing the stadium half full. I believe this impacts the team at home as we have nowhere like the atmosphere that could/should be generated. Look at man city 30k+ attendences when they were in league 1. A bit depressing really !!!
pilsburydoughboy Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Best catering in the league Best Radion Station Quality Officials Lowe and Mad Mandaric rants
Thedelldays Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Lowe and Mad Mandaric rants these were funny..
Dr Octopus Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 I miss the banter on the Itchen north blocks 1-3, Can't wait until were back in the Prem and I can get my old seat back, the Northam is **** in comparison.
Seany S Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Match of the Day. Even if we were in the skateboarding dog slot.
John Boy Saint Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 I don't miss being billed as cannon fodder for the top 4 week in week out, especially from TV pundits who were suprised when we did smear the "big boys" noses across their faces. Apart from that not a lot, I am looking forward to when we get our backsides in gear and we getting back to the Premiership from where we are now that will be a wizard wheeze, the last promotion season was great fun especially when we put the hammer down after Christmas.
Bensfcno1 Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Winning the odd game! The Dell and singing songs about players who cared and had been at the club more than 10 minutes!
revolution saint Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Nothing. I was going to say that but I do miss the atmosphere of a full ground. On the other hand I don't miss the opposition scoring and seeing loads of people jump up around me so swings and roundabouts.
Snopper Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 (edited) I`m quite glad we`re out of it. The Premiership is a make believe parallel universe where arrogance and excess abound. It has become distasteful and I just wonder how long it will be before the `top 4` bugger off to a Euro league and leave the rest of us in peace and with something realistic to aim for. Either that or the whole thing might implode on itself due to financial meltdown and/or `customer disatisfaction.` Edited 31 August, 2009 by Snopper couldn`t spell parallel :-(
Redondo Saint Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Having to describe which division we are in to American "soccer" fans. Clicking on SkySports League 1, for SFC information. Wondering if we will beat Swindon and Stockport. Being ****ed off because we did not beat Swindon and Stockport. Planning my trips to include a home game against Man U or Liverpool.
Mark`` Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Match of the Day coverage. Newspapers reports. General knowledge of players from opposing teams. and being able to attract decent players (Well decent ish players)
THEVMAN Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Dont miss it,the start of our demise on a large scale greedy board members and players earning big wages which they kept hold of in the Championship thus the downward spiral continued, but by christ would love another go at it.
lutz Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Arriving @ southampton central, with the pompey train slowly pulling in to the station along side us. The atmosphere was electric...Happy days
SNSUN Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 I miss the obvious things, MOTD, being in the papers, being linked with players way out of our price range, beating teams like Man Utd and making Ferguson pee his pants, not being ridiculed by my mates for having a cruddy little football team, playing teams and not feeling like plop when we get beat etc etc etc etc HOWEVER since we were there, the Premiership has become very segmented. You have your rich clubs that are always top of the table, the clubs with sound financial backing that sign good players, the clubs that punch above their weight every season and the promoted lads, though the latter two may fall into the same bracket. In terms of what I miss, I actually miss the Championship. The coverage was ok, and you're still playing big teams. Oh how I would have loved a trip to Newcastle this season. Sigh, I can wait 2 years...
Charlie Wayman Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 the tv coverage thread got me thinking of other things that change as you go down the leagues. biggest thing i have noticed is that it is a waste of time and money to buy a sunday paper and look for a decent match report about saints. also watching games and not knowing who the players are , especially away team also leaving home later and getting home earlier from games Very neatly put... Not winning ever is of course a trait we brought with us from the Prem. Did you realise we have had less wins over the last four years than any other club in the FL
kpturner Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 I miss thinking that we might actually be better off in the CCC where we can win games every week rather than lose them.....oh!
Thedelldays Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 I miss thinking that we might actually be better off in the CCC where we can win games every week rather than lose them.....oh! no way...you dont mean, WALKING THE LEAGUE...?
saint_stevo Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 i put a tenner on us finishing in top6 relegation year, only got 20/1
Belgiansaint Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Living abroad, it would definitely be the media coverage.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Not having people banging on "Yeah what league are you in, scummer?"
chrisobee Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Living abroad, it would definitely be the media coverage. Even living in Watford it's still the media coverage TBH. The bush telegraph is so slow.
Mase Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 I miss the obvious things, MOTD, being in the papers, being linked with players way out of our price range, beating teams like Man Utd and making Ferguson pee his pants, not being ridiculed by my mates for having a cruddy little football team, playing teams and not feeling like plop when we get beat etc etc etc etc HOWEVER since we were there, the Premiership has become very segmented. Sigh, I can wait 2 years... First paragraph sums up my exact thoughts.
Bailey Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 MOTD, proper media coverage, beating big teams occasionally, not having the **** ripped out of me for supporting a League One club, signing well-known players, Gordon Strachan, a full St. Mary's, the rivalry with P*mpey and a good atmosphere. And the list goes on!
tpbury Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Seeing any half decent player we have being linked to another club - and it being mentioned in a national paper.
NY Saint Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 Not having to wait 5 months between seeing matches on TV....
sussexsaint Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 Apart fron 2003 and the 80's ( I know it wasn't the premiership then) but little has changed really since we dropped I genuinely was looking forward to winning a few games at the lower level and even on occasiona steamrollering a team Otherwise most of the years involved calculations about how many points we'd have to get to avoid the drop
Daren W Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 Newspaper coverage. Seeing a paragraph dedicated to League One football is so depressing...
korruptor Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 The singing. Every bloody team sings Oh When The Reds/Blues/Me Nan/Some other ****e Goes Marching In, these days. Drives me up the bloody wall...
Saint Bones Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 being the underdog. In premiership a win against one of the big four was like winning a trophy. Nowadays we are supposely the bigger clubs.
