Somebody else would have taken over What, like Marc Jackson, or the Pinnacle matey with no money? 2. How many years did we suffer from debts 3 Poor management 5 Inconsistency 47 3. Do we have a proven manager? Not sure Pardew took Reading from this league to what is now the Championship. He took West Ham from the Championship to 8th in the Premiership and an FA Cup Final. 4. How many teams go out and win everything 5 league games after having a new manager and new owners, a total shakeup of the way the club works Not many but most win some We are only 5 games into the season!!! We still have 41 league games left!
kpturner Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 Not at Southampton but things seem to be better at Notts County and Man City When Man City were taken over their initial results were dire. QPRs were pretty unspectacular too. Notts County haven't made any big signings, their big money acquisitions are a DoF and a CB who has yet to play - so I would hazard a guess that their good start is down to the shrewdness of Ian McParland, both last year and this Summer. He has had some time to get it right, as has Mark Hughes. AP has had very little time so far.
John B Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 Notts County lost 1-0 to Barnet yesterday, I wonder if their fans are starting to act like ours? That is a rather stupid comment I would have thought as Notts County are in the Promotion places whilst we are in the relegation ones

SaintRobbie Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 To be out of minus points after 5 games which I thought wasn't too unrealistic.....this was the prediction I made to myself before the start of the season. This obviously hasn't happened. When did you expect to be shot of the -10?? I was expecting exactly where we are heading for relegation to League 2... until AP was given his own team and booted out Lowe's legacy players. So not really surprised. Now, 2 more players and AP may just start producing some results. We'll survive mid-table finish this year if we get rid of the last of the losing team from last season.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 I notice that you do not mention Pardew's time at Charlton and that there were other bidders during administration I don't know the details but I am sure I have heard on this forum that whilst at Charlton Pardew was very much restricted by the board and other factors that hindered him which yes, made the spell rather bad.
John B Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 Notts County have still lost as many games as us Possibly they have won more than us like most teams in the Football League
RedAndWhite91 Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 Possibly they have won more than us like most teams in the Football League Well that's fairly obvious isn't it. But did you honestly expect us to win 5 out of 5 games, when we played two of the best teams in this division (Millwall and Huddersfield) ? We were a Premiership club once. We weren't good enough for the Championship. Southampton, although it pains me to say it, are now a League One club, and we are going to find it as hard as anyone else. I think a poster mentioned a few minutes ago that the name 'Southampton' means nothing in this league now, and he is right, accept the fact things will be tough as we get over the negativity of last season and the cattled pre-season. As I said, things don't happen over night.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 No I was hoping for 70 points this season 7 or 8 by now Well we all hoped for similar, but it hasn't happened and we will have to adjust to that. It was never going to be easy, we were never going to 'walk this league'; not this year at least.
Gingeletiss Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 John B...........I think you need to have a serious sit down, you are going to have a turn soon, with all this negative crap you are chucking up.....50 years, like me that dates you, unlike me, you are a whinging fan, you have come on every thread, moaning. Have a few beers, lose a few days, then come back when we are top of the league!!!!
saintedwill Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 No I was hoping for 70 points this season 7 or 8 by now Why not be honest, you wouldn't be happy unless we 70 points now. Have a cup of tea, a biscuit, read Bella, Hello or something and leave football alone for a while until you a) get bored of the idea of it or b) we're in the PL where your moaning becomes more insignificant

It is strange last year I knew we were crap and accepted our fate but this year we are in the same position in League 1 unbelievable
RedAndWhite91 Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 It is strange last year I knew we were crap and accepted our fate but this year we are in the same position in League 1 unbelievable It's hardly unbelievable and we aren't in the same position. We have only played 5 games of the season, it's early days. We have no debts. We have a chairman who the fans don't despise. We have a manager who has been heard of before and has managed a team to 8th in the Premier League. We have sold more season tickets than last season. We have a proven goal scorer at this level heading our attack. We have to deal with the -10, and the fact our pre-season was affected by a prolonged takeover. However, we are not in the same position as last year. Give it a rest.

The problem is I am quite positive and expect us to win a few games only to find that we dont.

If he still has not won after 20 games or something ridiculous then you can slag him off. Remember, and I am sure you are well aware, more so than me, that football is a funny old game and anything can happen.
