Give it to Ron Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 We were given the 10 point deduction as a result of the debt being paid off. When he took over, the club had no debts. My god you couldn't be more wrong if you tried!!
J Bizzle Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 My god you couldn't be more wrong if you tried!! I could be wrong, but I thought that in football (not in usual business) the Football league or whoever is in control of the leagues paid off the debt and as a result a points deduction would be in place, and the points deduction was brought in to stop teams winding up massive debts, filling for admin and and getting debts cleared without penalty. like I said I could be wrong, but i'm sure I read that somewhere after it happened to Leeds. Northam Girls Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 Pipe down love, go make your self a cup of tea. Actually, didn't/don't really do sweets/chocolate/crisps. I'm a finely tuned athlete. We have very good training facilities and Southampton is a very attractive club to anyone outside the Prem. We are building a team, and thats what is attractive. Players will want to be part of something that is going to improve, just like Leeds. Also, women know **** all about football. Coffee actually. Oh and which Premiership club did you play for hmm ? Just think for a minute about what you have posted.....how can the FL pay off the debt? Where would they get the money to pay off Man Utd, Chelsea or even Man City debt if their moneymen walked away? You are right about the points deduction that it was bought in to stop clubs doing that but creditrors have to be paid by whoever buys the club...it may not be fully but agreed nonetheless. Going into Admin doesn't mean the debt is wiped out . Edited 30 August, 2009 by Give it to Ron
Jackie@home Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 Are you seriously at university?? Where have you been all summer when Saints' plight has been discussed in such detail on here and on the media? Didn't you understand any of it? As for John B's comment that he doesn't care about failing businesses, only his football club, Saints are a business, like it or not, and time is needed to turn things around. chrisobee Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 For me it is very simple. 2 months ago we were facing oblivion. Along comes Markus Liebherr and we have a team to support but no manager and no team to speak of. Now the team is taking shape, money has been spent and spent wisely. Lambert in particular is a top notch signing. Why did the original sorry state come about? Well of course it was essentially down to bad management and spending money we did not have. So why would be over stretch ourselves again, ML is not a cash machine. So as I see it it is very simple but others seem to want to put their own spin on just about everything and I say to them for God's sake give it a rest. Professor Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 In the bottom three as at 1st September, having got only one point more than the lowest achieving club, Brighton, is not acceptable performance. This is not just down to the team manager but the fault lies with the combined management of the club and the team. Marcus and Nicola should recognise that the quality in the squad may have been overestimated and the need for new players, underestimated. Rather than try to apportion blame, lets get on with putting it right! Give AP the tools and he will do the job.
SaintRichmond Posted 30 August, 2009 Share Posted 30 August, 2009 We've already spent more this summer than most clubs in this division will spend in 7 or 8 years Even so, I think it should now be obvious to many that OUR estimate of how MANY players are neede, and what they will COST ......... is far MORE than Mr Leibeherrs ............ IMHO, by the close of the Xfer window, we will still be TWO Decent players short of mounting a Realistic chalenge for the Top Six THIS season ..... and that, IMHO, is a Bad Business decision .... and a WASTE of this season We were BAD ... now we are ALMOST Good ........ it's a pity ML won't go that extra mile NOW ..... to save many Miles in seasons to come:cool:

trousers Posted 30 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 August, 2009 (edited) Pretty sure this was tongue in cheek from trousers, but met with the usual Aye. Was indeed tongue-in-cheek and intended to parody those calling for more money to be spent. Apologies for leading people to the wrong end of the stick. I will leave attempts at mindless quips to Bobby Davro in future. Kate Bush anyone? Edited 30 August, 2009 by trousers

trousers Posted 30 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 August, 2009 (edited) Mods....given the crap attempt at humour and the ensuing furore, might be an idea to put this thread slowly to sleep with my blessing and humble apologies. If it wasn't for Mr Liebherr, Miss Rice's baboon sanctury would be on the cusp of completion by now. And for that alone we should be thankful Edited 30 August, 2009 by trousers

Saint Without a Halo Posted 31 August, 2009 Share Posted 31 August, 2009 We were given the 10 point deduction as a result of the debt being paid off. When he took over, the club had no debts. The price he paid for the club (reputed to be around £14m) went some way towards paying off the debts it is the shareholders who lost their money in full. So to be pedantic he paid of part of the debts!
