Liverpool, Benitez = idiots

Does anyone else simply just not like them? They're jumped up and minutes-silence-for everything fans, they're stupidity in blindly backing Benitez over everything, despite Benitez proving himself completely incapable of building a title winning squad?

I have always disliked Benitez and his absolute idiocy in the Xabi Alonso affair was staggering. Never been a big Steven Gerrard fan either so whilst he was trying to offload Alonso last year I was pleading with him to sell 'Roy-of-the-rovers' Gerrard instead. Gerrard.... I bet I'd be in a minority if I asked whether anyone else think he is overrated?

Hope I'm not the only one who regarded Xabi as the best and most crucial player in the Liverpool squad and enjoyed watching him play more than anyone else in that now-stagnant Liverpool side... and a part of me hopes they seriously **** up this season and get rid of Benitez for good.

I understand they'll probably be a few Liverpool sympathisers on here so I'd be interested to hear your point of view as to what you think about Gerrard, Benitez and Alonso...

they will never win the league with him in charge...

what annoys me is when the press jump on clubs back for not having young english players.

under Raffa, liverpool must be the biggest culprits for bringing in the most amoubt of over rated foreigners

Benitez is the single biggest reason Liverpool will not win the Premier League. They have a squad almost good enough but still think they are a striker and a midfield player light. Alonso is an exceptional player but so is Gerrard, as St Will say he is world class.

Benitez is a clown.

Spurs, Man City, Arsenal, Utd, and Chelsea all have miles better squads and if it wasnt for Torres and Gerrard they would be screwed.

Kuyt, Riera, Aurelio, Insua, Lucas, Benayoun, Babel all play regularly for them and would be nowhere near the first team of any of the below clubs.

Yet their fans think they have a divine right to win the title....

I don't mind Liverpool or Benitez, in fact I'd love it if they won the league. However, they won't because of the following: Voronin, Insua, Kyrgiakos, Babel, Lucas, Ngog, Johnson. Ie. too many average players near their starting line up.

And I think everyone would agree with you Crab Lungs that Gerrard is overrated. Good player? Yes. Best midfielder in the world? Nowhere near.

Wow, didn't realise there was so many other people irritated by Liverpool and Benitez.

Y'know, I used to love the European fixtures at Anfield, there was some cracking games. However, over the past three or four years of Benitez' tenure I've grown to dislike them as a club on pretty much every level. Their fans, their players, their manager.

And I do agree with what someone says above... Liverpool's squad outside their starting 11 is quite frankly, rotten. Spurs and City should overtake them this year and deservedly so. It's about time Benitez is shown up for the moron he is. I'm now actually beginning to think it was Gerard Houllier's team who won the Champions League in 05, not Benitez'.

Just looking back to yesterday I was looking at other clubs squads who are considered weaker than Liverpool's and was amazed at how many clubs had more depth and had spent much, much less...

The fat Spanish waiter is the most over-rated manager in the Prem. An awful eye for players if you look at the players they've signed and the cash outlay.

Another reason I dislike them is their style of play, it did switch at the end of last season and they were watchable when they played with a more attacking lineup.

Better squads THIS SEASON, I think he means... anyway, you could always point to the fact that Benitez squandered alot of cash on substandard rubbish.

I much prefer Liverpool to Man Utd and Chelsea and would rather see Liverpool win the league than them.

Agree, if anything, I'd like to see Arsenal win the league with their team of lightening fast midgets. But i do have a soft spot for liverpool. My first ever game was Liverpool vs Spurs in the early 80s, and at Uni i had a mate who was a big Liverpool fan and I admit to standing on the Kop singing 'YNWA' a few times and being quite moved by the whole experience (and not getting my wallet stolen once).

The main reason so many people really hate Liverpool is because they won everything in the 70s and 80s. So hating them just become a default setting for most fans, in the same way hating Man U became the norm in the 90s.

But going back to the origianl point, I can't take them seriously as title contenders. It already looks like its a fight between Man U and Chelsea.

they have the most stupid owners in the world too who have took a chance and screwed it soooo much draining the club of money, rafa's hands are tied to an extent yet when he does spend he buys crud. Surely they must have a couple of decent prospects in the squad but according to

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/squad/

they have 52 (or there abouts) players in the first team squad! thats insane! and how many good english prospects? 1, Jay Spearing who has played a total of 0 league games for liverpool so far.

Ah, I see. Well maybe. Last season he had a very good squad, and he's made an astute purchase in Johnson. If he hadn't ****ed up the whole Alonso business things would be looking rosey for them.

And maybe he's squandered cash, but it's all relative to their size. What manager hasn't spunked a load of cash up the wall on a player who just didn't work out?

In the end it's bloody hard to break United's strangle-hold on the title, unless you suddenly come into a market-changing fortune. Liverpool ran them pretty close last season.

However, he has ****ed up with Alonso. And I think Gerrard will look half the player without those passes.

Benitez has always had his eye on the latest example of foreign crap imo, he spent a lot of money i seem to remember on many young players when the squad was crying out for first 11 quality (much in the same way as arsene manages, but nowhere near as successful).

Alonso was the lynchpin of their side unfortunately, it may be interesting to see how aquilani fits in but i cannot see how he will be as effective as Alonso at bridging the gap between defence and attack.

Gerrard however is world class, in another team he would be even better. Not many players have been able to keep a single rather untalented team in contention for so long. He plays with passion, desire, hard work and undoubted talent. One of the only players that can really grab a game by the scruff of the neck and drag it towards a positive conclusion.

Lampard ?? Please, he is not half of the player, he is beginning to look better now but only looks so effective for chelski because of the way they play him, 2 holding midfielders and a striker that was able to hold the ball up for him. It is a shame we stuck with him over gerrard for england, yes Lamps will score goals but he has nowhere near the influence Gerrard has.

IMO, a Liverpool without Gerrard, would be only a mid-table team, Torres or not. Also, i believe Benitez is on his last legs, if he cannot get it right now, he has no chance, and i think losing Xabi was one nail in the coffin.
