just digging a path and found a coin made of bronze, it has what looks like a Roman emperors head on it and dated 312BC anyone want to buy it?

Nick

Anything you dig up is considered Treasure Trove and must be reported to the authorities who will sell on your behalf and return a small commission.

However if you send me £47.50, paid into my Lagos account, I will not alert the authorities and therefore save you from instant arrest and incarceration in the Tower.

Deal!!

Lovely town, went there for my hols once. Youngest pier in England if I remember correctly, as they demolished the old one to stop the enemy using it to invade England during the war. Bit extreme I thought as they could have just locked the gates.

LOLLL!!! It must be fake!! Rome didn't have emperors in 312BC, they had a plebeian aedileship!!!

tbf, it does look like a Roman Emperor.

His name was Seleucus I Nicator.

Seleucus I (ca. 358-281 B.C.), a Macedonian general, was a Companion of Alexander the Great, king of Babylonia and Syria, and founder of the Seleucid empire and dynasty.

Deal is an awful town

and LOLISM and this thread.

Oi!

Take that back, take that back right now.

I was born in Deal and it is without doubt the best seaside town in which to be born. There is as much (if not more) history in the litle town that there is in Southampton. Maggie tried to rip the heart out of the community by closing the pits and the RM barracks, but it survived and to this day flourishes.

And you are correct Big John, Deal pier is the last pier to have been built in England and your reasoning is also spot on. Although not the prettiest, being of concrete construction, it has just had a new bistro built on the end and is once again the jewel in the crown that is DEAL. Go there for the Braderie on Sept 20th:and you will fall in love with the place:

Best pier fishing on the south coast too.

I could go on.....

well I had the last laugh .I took the coin to Sphinx the worlds leading coin and medal specialist and they said it was the 'missing coin' that for generations people have been searching for .Nostradamous had it especially minted to show he was the dogs balls when predicting stuff. It is the missing coin form the set he had produced for his Esso World cup coin collection Mexico 1969 that he also had commissioned depicting his premonition of Bobby Moore, Styles, Patty Hearst, Tony Banks and Leonard Cohen being our world cup winning heroes defending the trophy. It turns out the coin I dug up was none other than of Andy Peters and now the set is now complete.

I came back from London with 2x 5L cans of elbow grease as a reward. So who's the loser there then eh?

Edited by St Landrew
In honour of Bobby, I changed it from Bibby.

I have a 20p Without the date, if anyones interested?

Really..? The Royal Mint will give you £50 for it. Although I'd keep it because once all the 20ps of the type have been surrendered, they'll be worth a lot more. Of course, everyone could have the same attitude, which would be typical.

I think there were 200k made. I odubt that there are more than 50k coin collectors in the world who want 1. I doubt they will rocket in value. I know they were selling on E-bay for loads at 1 stage but wehether they ever got paid is another thing. Before all the publicity they were on the market at about £38 each.
