West Ham vs Millwall

Awfull lot of trouble outside aswel. I think I heard not many tickets were made available fir the Millwall fans anyway

Trouble is that those Millwall "fans" who want a ticket will find a way to get one especially when the clubs are so close. I just wonder though how this happens inside the ground, not enough police I suspect though TBH 1 per fan would probably just about have been enough.

My old boss is a West Ham fan and told me (quite proudly I thought) that the first ever (hooligan-related) death at a British football match was a Millwall fan at West Ham. I have never researched this myself but it's probably true. No surprise there was trouble really, this should surely have been made a special case and played on a Sunday morning or similar. Would be nice if Millwall got a points deduction, but I can't see it happening myself.

FAW will probably punish Swansea more for tonight than Millwall or West Ham will be. Swans down to 6 men (inc 2 injuries)!! Game will possibly be called off any minute now. Farce. Ref totally lost control.

Eh, you have to call off the game if one team has less than 7 men !! WTH happened ?

Ok, this happened !

http://www.swanseacity.net/page/MatchReport/0,,10354~50639,00.html

Players red carded:

85 minutes Garry Monk

110 minutes approx Gorka Pintado closely followed by Angel Rangel ( ironic name!)

At this point Swansea had already lost one player injured having used all 3 subs. However, I think they finished with 7. I love the final paragraph of the report :

Tempers flared during the closing stages ( really, no kidding !) but S****horpe held on. Oh I hope I get to see the highlights ! Poor old Nathan Dyer was one of the 7 still standing I think lol

We had the ref on Saturday, he was awful.

Our player robbed their keeper 40 yards out and instead of a red card, he gave them an offside. As we tried to take the FK, their player sprinted full on and rugby tackled the taker to the ground, no red, no yellow. Nothing. He didnt actually know the rules and guessed most decisions.

spoke to my mate who was there who is a hammer said the west ham fans were so livid cos the milwall fans were constantly chanting to collison about is dead dad.....

Bit rich, seeing as the WH fans had no problem letting Jermaine Defoe what they thought about his brother passing away when they played spuds Sunday

I'm a middle-aged man now, but sometimes I miss those 80's away days

I have a bump on my nose from having it broken in 1985

10 of us got ambushed coming out of Seven Sisters underground by a load of Spurs fans, the police didn't even bother arresting people then, they just broke up the fight

Great memories

not a great deal of violence in that clip..?

was as bad..?

are people over reacting..?

seen worse on a week night a fratton..

Just seen "shocking" pictures on SSN from someone camcorder...!!!

it was a load of west ham fans singing sit down if you hate millwall...then singing stand up if you hate millwall..

then a lot of posturing then a bin was thrown..

I think there is alot of over reacting here....

Jesus Christ on a bike...

(speechless)

You've got to hit the fans were it hurts (metaphorically), kick them both out of the competition and dock them points. Then see how much they like reliving the 'glory days' of the 70s and 80s.

I've been on a WH forum and their saying the bloke who got stabbed is a top firm guy.

Also anyone who says were back to the old days, clearly does not go to football on a match day

Every cloud. At least it wasn't an innocent bystander.

Scum, the lot of them. Whoever are drawn against West Ham in the next round should get a bye. Heavy-handed punishments for all involved is necessary in order to nip this bullsh*t in the bud.

Don't really see how it should affect our World Cup bid. Hooliganism is far worse across the continent, and South Africa is the murder capital of the world.

lets be honest...i dounbt this one off will have much or any bearing on us getting the world cup in 9 years time

In fairness I did write that in the heat of it all last night.

Your right of course that it should not effect the overall view by Fifa towards Englands bid.

What is getting me really annoyed though is how people I have spoke too, seem to think that this is a "new" thing. That it died in the 80's

Only have to look on the main board pretty much every Monday to see a trouble after the game thread.

Last season there was fighting in the ground between fans/ stewerds etc

People shouldn't ostricise (sp?) themselves to it

agree Bert..

it looked bad but there have only been 13 arrests so far...

and the scenes in the ground were mostly idiots running on the pitch...again, happens quite often..even here at SMS..remember pride park in the playoffs..

I think the media are making this all far worse than it really is...well, maybe that is the point and want to shock people etc...

On what basis is that good? Not that I think it will be affected.

A world cup in this country would just provide a further opportunity for the continued over-commercialisation of football, more shiny plastic new grounds, over priced tickets and a stupid amount of hype, with everyone and anyone jumping on the bandwagon. Also much more fun watching England in some far flung corner of the globe.

Agree with you that last night's "events" won't make a difference though.

So are you saying that a World Cup in another country won't be over-commercialised, will be played in old stadiums, have cheaper tickets and little hype?

Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn't. But if it does over commercialise, it affects that country's football and not the English game. England is already the most expensive place in the world to watch top level football, can you imagine for world cup games? Plus I'd much rather watch England or even a neutral game in a foreign city than Birmingham, Wembley or dare I say it Skatesmouth.

Would be an interesting case to argue how much the hosts of recent tournaments have "benefited" from hosting the world cup or euros?
