Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 A forum poster gets called a **** and is told he is worse than his clubs biggest rivals because he votes Tory. That has really got to you hasn't it? For your info it wasn't me who said it, i just agreed. I'm sorry but i really don't like the Tory Party and what it stands for, can you give me reasons for your membership of the said party apart from ' i don't like Gordon Brown' Yes, it has got to me, mainly because that's not a reason to dislike someone. If you can dislike someone for such an asanine reason then that is why there is so much prejudice, racism and facism in this country. And it's ironice that it comes from someone who I assume is dead against all 3 (although with the racism etc that is prevalent in Spains society maybe that explains why you're there). Been a member for 7 years now, so yes it is more of a reason than disliking Gordon Brown. The reason is because my whole family vote Tory, I was brought up well under that and their values and I will be better off under a Tory government.
OldNick Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 So your saying that because i haven't retired and that i hold a Socialist viewpoint that i have no right to broaden my horizons, live in another country, learn another language and other cultures. I work here so therefore pay taxes here, i have never heard so much ******** in my life. Get a grip mush You are spouting how bad the tories are(im not impressed with them myself at present)but have cleared off to leave others to clear up the mess that your socialist friends have put us in.It was only afew days after 'that great day in 1997' that Blair and co took the regulation away from the bank of England to regulate the financial system. That in turn left them to do wahtever they liked to overlend and take risks that we all are paying for here now. The bankers are still leftscott free after all this and the goverment who also have spent on the back of those revenues that have now blown up in our faces. The bankers and government were hand in hand together in this, not a Tory government but a labour government who allowed this to happen. We are now printing money, yes it has got us of a hole shortterm but within 3 years you will see rising inflation and then the pain will really set in IMO. Just wait until December when the VAT is increased up to 19% ( I think that is when it is due to go back up and beyond the old figure) see the businesses and population hurting then. This government inherited a golden economy and Mr Teflon Blair could not believe his luck , but as in all these things if you spend you have to pay back.Sadly the prudent will feel the pain as much as the fools who spent and got us in this state.

Wes Tender Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 I think you will find mush, that unemployment in May 1979 was around 1.2 million and falling. The Labour isn't working campaign was just part of a slick advertising campaign by the marketing guru's Saatchi & Saatchi. When did i draw parallels with which way someone votes and which football club they will therefore support, i think that was your fellow Tory DP Saint.remember May,79 1.2 million- May 82 3.25 million unemployed So you don't have an answer to why those 1.2 million unemployed would not be enticed into the benefits culture under Labour and yet they would be under the Conservatives, mush. And if you believe the unemployment figures that have been put out historically under Labour governments you must be bloody naive, as the methods of collating the figures have been massively massaged to reduce them, by taking all sorts of scivers and malingerers out of the system and placed into different categories. And then changes were made to the electoral system so that in a seat like Eastleigh where I live, it takes a majority of 65000 odd voters to elect their MP, whereas in some cities in the Labour heartland it takes only half as many electors. Then we have the situation whereby Scotland and Wales have their own governments which Westminster does not have any say in with most policy areas, whereas both Scotland and Wales are allowed to have a say in how England is governed. In Blair's cabinets, many of the ministers were Scottish, as is our own dear Prime Minister, currently. So you hate the Conservatives and I hate Labour and the Lib Dems with a vengeance. I well remember the political landscape back to Wilson's time. What a disaster that was, inflation up to 25% under Dennis Healey and having to go cap in hand to the International Monetary Fund to bail us out from bankruptcy. Still, you're well out of it in Spain as an exile from the Labour government you profess to love. I'm presuming that you weren't out there in General Franco's time.

I would have thought that if you could hate someone due to that then...but perhaps I'm wrong. Agreed. It's not as if we're talking the National Front, Maoists, Trotskyites, Monster Raving Looney party. We're discussing mainstream British politics for crissakes. So let's assume that our Spanish friend (mush) meets somebody socially, he likes them and then finds out that they're a Conservative. I'm assuming that true to his current position, he'd immediately switch to detesting them.

And why then move to one of the most self important nations in the world, where racism is common and the top tax brackets only pay 23%. Not exactly a haven of looking after the common man, is it? To be honest I think he's just here on a wind up, and to be fair it's working. I can't believe I'm falling into this trap again.

Wes Tender Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 I still think the irony of moving away to a country that was until recently ruled by a fascist dictator quite amusing.of course it was to learn the culture and language nothing to do with the sun and a better life than a normal working person could have. One for all all for......myself lol Unfortunately, the bubble has burst over there. Unless somebody bought their property over there some years ago, prices had risen to levels commensurate to our own in many areas. Many have decided to sell because they don't like it there after all and the property market has collapsed, meaning that most can't afford to get back on the property ladder over here. And if they hated the Conservative governments over here, they now find that the Spanish government is capable of dispossessing them of their properties on a whim under factors that the foreign property owners have no control over. The local planning departments have powers over there that your average British Socialist commissar in local government over here could only dream about.

The bank rate went up for a short while at the time that Sterling was tracking the Euro, but that was not inflation. Many speculators like George Soros made a quick buck speculating on it, but it was short lived. Show me the official government figures showing inflation at 20% under the Conservatives in 1980. You ought to do some research about the constituency polling numbers, as you obviously haven't got a clue. Look at any major city in the North. Also, I see you don't defend the West Lothian question.

In all seriousness i do have Tory friends( not many) but we choose not to talk about politics especially when drunk, i moved here because it has a very interesting football scene, i had always found the people ok on holidays previously, always had an interest in the language and many other things. As i said there are things i don't like e.g bullfighting but then again 90% of the Spaniards i meet don't like it either, their tax system is up to them but i vote for the party that would raise substantially taxes on the ricg.
