Saint Charlie Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 This isn't a slag off Lallana thread, I think he is a good player but he shouldn't take the corners, they were awful yesterday. Surely Schneiderlin could whip in a great ball or even Lloyd James who has a decent cross? We will never score from them with such poor delivery which is a shame because Lambert is obviously good in the air and Trotman looks a threat.
krissyboy31 Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I can understand him taking the ones on the left-hand side but running over to take them from the right, not only lost the impetus but he does not seem to be able to take outswinging corners with the correct pace and trajectory to clear the front marker.
Bad Wolf Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Harding should take them. He's a great crosser
krissyboy31 Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Harding should take them. He's a great crosser Very vulnerable to the counter attack if your full-back takes corner kicks.
Rasiak-9- Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Leave Lallana back and let one of the full backs take 'em? I'd rather have Harding go forward into the area for the addition of his height. Lallana is pretty wack with his deliveries though and we're still damn harmless from set-peices in general
derry Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Better still, just leave him out, he is a liability and a large part of the problem not the solution. We won't have any width until he is out of the team. Yes his corner kicks are awful as well.
paulwantsapint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 What about Deano Hammond as set piece taker ok lose him in box but if he can aim for Rickie as they say feed the Lamb he will score
Thedelldays Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 lallana should not be on the pitch to take a corner
oxfordshire_saint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I was thinking the same whilst watching yesterday, we won 7 corners compared to Brentford's 2 and the only one I can remember being a decent delivery was the one Trotman headed over after a flick on. It's just like when Oakley used to take corners for us, they always seemed to be floated in rather than whipped in with pace. As has been mentioned, I'm sure Murty, Schneiderlin or Harding could provide a better service. With the likes of Hammond and Trotman going up for aerial opportunities, we should make the most of it, could be the difference between a stuttering 1-1 draw like yesterday or a comfortable victory.
SaintRobbie Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Let's buy a winger or two who can do crosses AND take corners!
RonManager Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Let's buy a winger or two who can do crosses AND take corners! Steady there.
Winchester_Saint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Wouldn't Gillett take the corners if he were playing? Don't understand how he doesn't get in the team, we are crying out for his energy, enthusiasm and work rate in the middle of the park as he at least gets stuck in! Anyway, that's off the point... Correct me if I'm wrong but when we first signed Schneiderlin wasn't he labelled as an awesome set-piece taker? Have yet to see him take a corner, free kick or penalty...
SaintRobbie Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Steady there. why not... we could sell alot of the Lowe players to finance it! Double win! lol

Legod Third Coming Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 If I was paid £500 a week, I could deliver a corner into the box at pace. Feck it, I could do it now for nothing. This sort of basic ineptitude is frightening. Place ball down, run up, kick it hard, in the air, at pace in one direction. Fecking hell, anyone with a day's practice could do it.
yellow&blue Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 Just resurrecting this post to comment on Lallana's corners and free kicks last night. Once again they were awful, just floated high to the far post to Wayne Thomas and then the ball seemed to just drift out of play from there. I would have liked to see some set piece plays with more pace on them, instead of giving the opposition more time to clear the ball away.

SoccerMom Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 James took them in the reserves-seem to remember he was pretty accurate.
