So just in this one thread we have had lies, damn lies, sexism, racism, sizeism, beardism, golfism, anti americanism, anti muslemism... yes that is a word lol

What a lovely bunch of people we have in here.

Having said that it has given me a good laugh.

I mean the bottom line is, if the bearded guy wants to make a mamary gland of himself shouting what he feels is pertinent then let him. Everyone pays their admission so is entitled to an opinion, however wide of the mark you believe it to be.

Idiot, he said mini-tour, as in children. Still, just because he's won a few trophies at that age group, doesn't give him the right to criticise a professional instructor.

??? Mini tour golf had nothing to do with children! Basically if the European tour is the premiership, I play in the championship/league 1. And I have every right to criticise him cuz he's an idiot

I thought about it but was keeping that one up my sleeve. Do you think golf courses maybe attributable to the decline in the British bee population? Nothing for them to eat and a load of aimless swotting hardly conducive to developing our eco-system.

At least the Eco system of a golf course is better than the Eco system of the concrete housing estates that you want the golf courses to be turned into.

Golf is not that eliteist, if you can attain a reasonable handicap and can save up the monies to join a private club, the majority if the membership is open (as many are nowadays) even you 19C may be allowed to join, my father played regularly in to his late 70s up until 6 months before his death. How can a sport that allows exercise late into life be bad for the country.

I have read this thread with interest and have to admit to being a little confused.

Is mini-golf the same as as crazy golf? I know that crazy golf is the one with the windmills and stuff but I can't imagine that is the "sport" that StWill plays. I've had read posts from him commenting on proper golf with some knowledge.

His son looked about 18-21 anyway, so I don't know what the **** he's on about. I think his posts have proved he's not completely sane to be fair.

Try getting you weight feeling into your right foot at setup, that should help you release the head and stop you blocking it. Sounds like you could be too left sided, either at setup or at impact. A weak grip is fine ad long as you're not losing power. So weight in your right foot and stay in behind it as you hit it. HTH

19-21? Really? Is that your excuse? He is 15 and you know it.

Also, you have the temerity to say that I sound ridiculous after giving out advice like that? Good lord.

No, I play mini TOUR golf....basically there are smaller tours dotted all over the world that allow pros to play for money, that aren't televised and the money isn't in 7 figures like what you see on tv. Mini tours are also know as satellite tours.

It's professional golf, just like what you see on tv, but on a smaller scale (in terms of sponsorship, tv coverage and prize money). Hence why it's sometimes called "mini" tour.

Don't try to detract from the fact you sounded, at the football and on that ridiculous post you made, like a complete and utter tool.

For those people who haven't seen this man before, I can inform you that he definitely has little man's syndrome.

Play much in Hants Will?

I know a few Hampshire PGA pro's

Very little. My home track is in Surrey, between Farnham and Guildford...I practise there and also near Ascot. Have barely played any golf in Hampshire to be honest, I've always been a Saints fan (because of my dad) but I only moved down here 5 years ago. On the tours I play in the UK, very few events are in Hampshire - I think there was 1, and I missed that one.

I'm seeing a girl who lives near Southampton now, and I'm spending a lot of time down there, so I'm toying with the idea of finding somewhere to practise down there. I've hit balls at Hedge End quite a few times, but the balls aren't that great.

This thread is awesome. Am still laughing at the tache guy justifying comments made at a football match by saying he made them using "techniques" gleaned from reading Mike Brearley and Sun f***ing Tzu. I would love St Will to elaborate on what he was actually saying during the match.

I wish I could remember specifics. But I really can't....I do remember very clearly, though, thinking "what on earth are you talking about....you sound ridiculous"!

St Will, next time you see Kadeem Harderington at a match I really think you should take a photo and then disseminate it to all local youth clubs and golf clubs as this man shouldn't be allowed to pray on novice golfers who know no better than to hand their hard-earned to him for some of his motivational "mind bullets".

I would have taken a picture and posted for you all to laugh at, but I have an iPhone and the camera is rubbish - it would have been blurry unless I really took my time, which would have been a dead give-away!

I may only be a mere Professor of History rather than a professional golfer, but surely blaming the balls is like a bad workman blaming his tools. After all, the balls are the same for everyone who goes to Hedge End.

Also, it strikes me as very 'convenient' that you claim to be a pro golf player but don't play in Hampshire, where I imagine most of the posters on this forum who also happen to be golfers, happen to play. This means that they will never come across you when they're playing. as I say, this strikes me as very convenient if you really are, indeed, as good a golfer as you claim.

Some balls at Driving Ranges are not as good as at others

I can't help where I play!! There aren't any tournaments in Hampshire for me to play in!! If you'd like to come and watch me play a couple in Oxfordshire over the next couple of weeks you're more than welcome!!

Hedge End is a driving range - a place to go and practise. The golf balls there are a bit soft and don't fly well, so they don't give very good feedback on how you're hitting your shots. The place I practise at daily has good balls, the balls fly like a proper golf ball that I'd use in a tournament, so I practise there.

You're looking into this far too deeply!

One of my best mates is a pro on the hampshire circuit and works at a local golf club (County)

The balls at Hedge End are range balls, never great. Surely as a pro you want a practise field and your own balls? work out yardages etc and work on trajectory/shaping?

I'd love to find a decent field to do my own thing, please let me know if you know a good one that I won't hit people on and also that the farmer won't come after me in his tractor and I'll be there!

When I decided to turn pro I went straight into playing...I didn't go the pga route, so I can't play on the local pga circuits, which is kind of a shame. I think one day I might do my pga if I decide I can't make it to a decent level playing.

Few options i know of, including in Hedge End. Even think if i recall Southampton Muni has a decent practise field!

The PGA course is pretty full on, like open uni sorta stuff! Looked into doing it myself at one point, but the thought of standing in a pro-shop selling Pinnacles to hackers was not one that appealed to me......

Exactly, if I wanted to sell mars bars my whole life I'd open a corner shop! I did do some work in a pro shop when I was younger, and I'd get people calling me up asking what the weather would be like in 2 weeks time...crazy.

I'm doing an open uni psychology degree at the minute, and like you said the PGA course is kinda similar - I'm not sure I'd want to do both. I think I'd rather go into sports psychology than be a pga pro anyway.

I am entering this discussion simply to say it may well be the (inadvertently) funniest thread I've ever read on here.

It has everything - golf, politics, religion, social housing, dress sense, homophobia, and even a whiff of pedophilia (not sure how that got in there).

It was good before Kadeem reached the inexplicable decision to confess guilt, but even better after.

Just wait until we "Grammar Police" get going.:)

Exactly, you don't exactly need an electrolyte replacement drink after a round of golf or game of darts or snooker. Golf is pastime like scrabble or bowls and for middle aged men to take up when their waist size exceeds their chest size.

Well actually, yes you do....

When you play over here in 45C.

In fact even the England World Cup Squad in 2002 had problems coping with a simple game of golf.

Nice guys though but for professional athletes they reallyknew stuff all about energy conservation and fluid management.

No surprise to us when a few weeks later they stuffed it up in Japan.

Oh FWIW Michael Owen's one hell of a golfer, nice guy to speak to on a golf course. He views it as an important part of his total mental relaxtion inbetween games but trust me he is as competitive at golf as he is (was) on the pitch.

.................Finally, we come to the point that membership appears to be made up by an overwhelming majority of middle aged white men and I notice no one has tackled that issue ................

.

OK 19C I am actually with you on the subject of the inhabitants of golf courses in the UK, but when the Little Englander glasses come off, you will actually be shocked to find that there are now far more Asian men and women playing golf than there are members of UK golf clubs. There is always another side to the coin.

Over here around 80% of club memberships are from Asia. The game is seeing a massive explosion in popularity in India, but also we have a very large number of UAE Nationals playing the game. Khalid Yousef is at a Multi-national 6th form college and as a scratch player has qualified to play in the last two Desert Classics as a Scratch handicap amatuer he was of course not very good but he only finished 2 places behind Soren Kjeldsen & Mark O'Meara.

Golf in the UK is a strange animal, the snobby clubs and the blokes on the Muni. I find it real odd when I come back but you have no idea how fantastic it is to be able to spend some quality time in the countryside with some friends.

Golf is however part of a much larger global family, which for those of us no longer of an age to play Footie or cricket allows us to play a competitive sport.

You should talk to some real golfers some time( sorry Will). Pro Am day at the Desert Classic here is a good one, I'll introduce you to some of my mates, they'll fully understand your PoV about planning and snobbishness, but they'll show you the other side of the coin. Monty's tale of how all the Europeans tried to copy Tiger in his early days and spent 4 hours a day in the gym and running 10 miles a day is priceless

Could any other sport in the world allow a total numpty to stand alongside a global sports superstar and compete at the same level? I was never good enough at footie, once faced Shoaib Akhtar (luckily didn't know it at the time) but I beat Monty at golf in a tournament on a proper course..... (when he was still good & I was a hacker)

St Will? you play on the Challenge tour? A lot of that is telelvised here these days

I haven't played challenge tour, I've played Europro Tour (which is televised here on sky); the other tours I've played on here and in the US aren't televised. I missed out on qualifying for the Nissan Open by a shot a few years ago, so nearly got a nice start on a PGA Tour event. I try to get out to qualify for the Nissan and the Buick Invitational every year, as well as one or two Nationwide Tour events.

Not wishing to be controversial but golf's not actually a sport is it? I am hard pressed to think of an outside sport played all year round where you keep your trousers on!

You see there speaks a man who's never played golf with American Buddies.

There's this rule you see. It is remarkably easy to hit a tee-shot about as effectively as Lallana hits a shot at goal. the ball can often go less than 10 yards. Now in Blighty when that happens you have to buy a round of G&T's. When you play with Yanks they have a different rule.

meanwhile I give you Cricket, Baseball, NFL (yep that's for pansies), oh yeah, Horse Racing, Skiing

So get off yer a*ss and qualify for Dubai Desert Classic instead of those big ones. Get here and I'll have a word with my Marshalls and make sure you make the cut and everything bounces out the rough ok. You'll be amazed how well you play with a couple of Bullfrogs inside you.

I'd like to appologise on behalf of William. Unfortunately he is a terminal patient at a local house who we have taken, along with other patients to Hedge End driving range. Due to his illness, William now believes he is a 'proffessional' and often makes up stories of his achievements to sound better than others. It can be very embarassing especially in cases such as this and others such as the time Colin Montgomery visited. I can assure you that William has never captained Europe to Ryder Cup glory.

I hope everyone who has been upset by William's comments will forgive him and understand that his illness causes him to become deluded and often antagonistic.

Yours apologetically,

Dr. X

You do know Tiger Woods had an approach about buying Saints before Admin don't you?

Mark Steinberg said it was the single funniest thing he had ever heard on a golf course. Still bought the beers after.

Last year we heard on the news that ambulances were heading to Edmonton airport to meet a plane flying back from Mexico. Most of the passengers had been stricken in mid-flight by what was so quaintly described as "explosive diarrhea".

This thread is what the inside of that plane must have looked like.

Mini TOUR golf, not mini golf!! A mini tour is a professional tour that doesn't have the major sponsors and prize funds of the main tours you see on tv. It's not mini golf!

What are the trousers like?

You can't deny that psychology is important though, even in mini-golf.
