oxfordshire_saint Posted 22 August, 2009 Posted 22 August, 2009 I thought today's attendance was pretty decent given that the takeover hype has died down and we've had some poor results. Very interesting to see that Reading could only get 16,000 for the visit of Sheffield United. I presume all their JCLs have all gone back to supporting Chelsea?
John Boy Saint Posted 22 August, 2009 Posted 22 August, 2009 JCLs? Johnny Come Latelys Shandy pants fans who only turn up to see Manure Chelski Ar5e & Liverpool v "their" team

I thought our crowd was disappointing considering the strength of the Brentford contingent. Just over 16,000 Saints fans not good enough especially when we play teams with far weaker travelling support.
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 22 August, 2009 Posted 22 August, 2009 16,000 fans is still well within the top 5 for attendances this season. Dont forget that the average for this league is a little over 10k with only Leeds, Norwich, Us and Charlton likely to regularly have 17,000+ (incl. away support).

Poor for League one? Dream on.
LeBenali Posted 22 August, 2009 Posted 22 August, 2009 Was extremely impressed with the attendance, if this is what we get after back to back defeats, then we could be looking at 22,000ish if we get some decent form together!
Nineteen Canteen Posted 22 August, 2009 Posted 22 August, 2009 Brentford had 2000 fans, so there were just over 17,000 Saints fans. Poor for League one? Dream on. How do we compare with Leeds, Norwich and Charlton so far this season? It's poor I expect against these teams who I would consider our peers in this league and judging we nearly died as a club and with a new structure and so much hope about the place. Yes, I think the response from the fans is extremely poor. Norwich were beaten 7-1 first home game of the season if that happened to us the next home game the stewards would be given a day off. Our fans need a reality check and stop waiting for Liebherr to 'donate' some millions and show him how grateful they are by attending games because that is the only way he will be assured he has a worthwhile investment. With regard to those fans already mindlessly moaning about the results so far - if they are that unhappy go back down our recent history and ask ALL those involved with Pinnacle how then managed to beat Liebherr's bid to exclusivity and target your 'unhappiness' in their direction.

C'mon mate, our fans have gone through the longest slow motion car crash in history starting at the beginning of the relegation season, in recent times I think many missing fans have found better more satisfying ways to spent their money, time, and with their families too. So for example at this time of the year; Watch Saints getting frustrated; going home kicking the cat or Cornwall on the beach with the kids.

Seriously, I had read many comments about you and I was prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I have now seen the **** you spout. I haven't yet worked out what your agenda is, but you clearly have something against this football club and it's current setup. Why don't you do us all a favour and **** off???
um pahars Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I thought today's attendance was pretty decent given that the takeover hype has died down and we've had some poor results. Very interesting to see that Reading could only get 16,000 for the visit of Sheffield United. I presume all their JCLs have all gone back to supporting Chelsea? Have to agree, in that I was pleasantly surprised by the two circa 20.000 attendances (certainly surpassed the first two games of last season anyway). Despite the late release of season tickets and the poor results to date, yesterday's crowd was particularly pleasing for a Division Three team. I haven't been to a game yet, so the attendances will be up by one for the forthcoming games!!!!!

Just over 16,000 Saints fans not good enough especially when we play teams with far weaker travelling support. ... and 19C is back to one of his favourite topics - slagging off our fans. On the attendance thread on Friday, he announced that he did not expect to see the total attendance to top 17,000. He even promised to give up his slagging of our fans if it was in the same ballpark as we achieved against Millwall. The total attendance was over 19,000 - not as much as against Millwall but still 10% higher than 19C predicted. It was higher than the gate at a Premiership game featuring the League champions. It was higher than the average that will be achieved this season at several Premiership clubs. Yet 19C was disappointed!! I suppose anything to have an argument!!

Well we have beaten Charlton (the current league leaders) on attendances. Leeds are a bigger club and have you ever been to Norwich? There's nothing to do there so you may as well go to the footie.

There's nothing to do there so you may as well go to the footie. Just had a look at Charlton's attendances and was surprised that we had beaten them by quite a few thousand, despite them getting off to a flyer. Leeds only got 21,000+ yesterday, but as you say only a loon would consider us on a par with a club/city of their size. As for Norwich, well they certainly have something about them that many clubs (ourselves included) could learn from. An empathetic board who have a good relationship with their fanbase along with an intelligent ticketing process. They had already sold 17,000 season tickets for the 2009/10 season by February of this year!!!!! And interestingly their prices included a 20% discount if they were relegated to League One. So either judged on pure numbers, or as a comparison against last season under the Revolutionary Coaching Set Up or against our "peers", then only a loon would think 20,000 attendances in the Third Tier are poor.

QUOTE] to make a further comparison, there were 18,000 for Wigan v Man U yesterday. Don't know what it means, but just thought I'd mention it.
ItchenRob Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Leeds are a much "bigger" club than us in probably every single measure of that term. Having lived in Norwich for 3 years its a very "different" place geographically, socially and culturally which might explain their bigger core support. Much as I like Norwich its a bit like an overgrown Royston Vasey!
Legod Third Coming Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Did you see all the empty seats at Wigan? And they were playing Manure. The recession biteth! We'll have even more when we can spin a few wins together.

I have nor problem with not agreeing with me but can I suggest that instead of trying to work out my imaginery agenda why don't you explain to me why my opinion is unfounded? Telling me to eff off confirms what i believe tbh.

Certainly the one team more than any other who deserve to be relegated from the Premiership, they have less plastics than we do!
teamsaint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 our attendances are on the up compared to last season. ( EG sub 19000 for Brum ist game). If we get some results and performances we will get excellent turnouts.

I would wager a bet that this season's average will be better than last years (certainly up until the point when Lowe and co got the boot), which considering the delay in sorting out season tickets along with being relegated etc etc etc tells a rather different story than some loons are suggesting.
