um pahars Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 And so Wes starts an argument ... quelle surprise. Hello Mr Pot (PS weather was great)
Fan The Flames Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 You need to get over Nigel - he's moved on and so should you.....I have. Mmmm just like in your second post on this thread. Nice op back to usual straight after though. However I strongly suspect that you new found positivism is just another vehicle to slag off other fans, w ho are quite high up your hate list.
Wes Tender Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 And so Wes starts an argument ... quelle surprise. No, I expressed an opinion. This is an internet forum, the vehicle for such debate, or am I mistaken? Perhaps instead of just making snide comments, you might like to enter into the spirit of things and express your own opinion as to whether Pearson was as capable of erudite self-expression or not.
hypochondriac Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 And so Wes starts an argument ... quelle surprise. He really didn't though did he...
Wes Tender Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I too wasbuoyed by what AP said and referred to it in the match reaction thread before this one was started. However, in the interest of balance, it should be stated that two Reading fans I spoke to when AP was appointed as our new manager said that he talks a very good game and can keep everyone on side, even when things are going pear shaped on the pitch around him. I think the implication was that they got a bit tired of him saying the right things but failing to actually do anything about it on the pitch. Sotonjoe starts argument. Quelle surprise. Do you see what I did there?
um pahars Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Mmmm just like in your second post on this thread. Nice op back to usual straight after though. Oh do you mean like posting a reasonable post (in a vain attempt at establishing some credcibility), only to throw in a touch of vitriol/antagonism in the last paragraph, or in a subsequent post??? This fella's octo-polar disorder now means we have more than one character in each thread and sometimes more than one character in each post:rolleyes:.
hypochondriac Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 And can I say that it is such a shame that 19 didn't just post the original comment and left it at that. FWIW I completely agree with his original post. And he claims that people only have a go at him because they disagree with his opinion!
SaintBobby Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 If we're within 5 points of safety at Xmas, I'll be satisfied. And I think we will be. There's a lot of dross in this division - including us at the moment - but we have the manager and budget to improve, unlike most other teams in League One.
Weston Saint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Interview here http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8216405.stm
Wes Tender Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 . I don't think Pearson could have spoken for that length of time without repeating himself many times and the infamous managerial (I don't know what to say anymore) phrase 'As I said'. Interview here http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...on/8216405.stm Thanks for posting that, Weston. I had another listen. To my horror, Pardew twice said "as I say"! In the interview I posted from Pearson, he didn't say it once.
Give it to Ron Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I think the implication was that they got a bit tired of him saying the right things but failing to actually do anything about it on the pitch. So we haven't improved the full back situation, we didn't get in a centre back that can challenge and compete, we haven't signed a battling midfielder who some rate as the best in the division and a proven goalscorer in Lambert? all positions recognised as our weakness. I am not saying its the finished article yet as we need pace and width but at half-time we bought that on. If we are not above the relegation zone by November then its time to start worrying.
SaintBobby Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 So we haven't improved the full back situation, we didn't get in a centre back that can challenge and compete, we haven't signed a battling midfielder who some rate as the best in the division and a proven goalscorer in Lambert? all positions recognised as our weakness. I am not saying its the finished article yet as we need pace and width but at half-time we bought that on. If we are not above the relegation zone by November then its time to start worrying. If we ARE above the relegation zone in November that would be a miracle, and would mean we're probably on target for the play-offs. I'd expect us still to be in the bottom three at Xmas. And I wouldn't be panicking as long as we were within a few points of safety.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Listened to this on the way home and before it came on I was feeling pretty happy with the result and the performance (with 1 or 2 exceptions) and that you could easily see the rebuild is taking shape but it will take a few more games yet to sort out those areas of weakness. With that in mind after the interview I came to the conclusion I cannot remember the last time I listened to a Saints manager talk with so much openess and common sense and readily accept and identify the areas that need work and to be sending ' a pull your socks up message' to named individuals. Pardew came across as shrewd, focussed, determined and very experienced and comfortable with his coaching and rebuild. It was great listening and refreshing and reassuring in equal measure and provided we all accept this season is the critical building blocks of a foundation to automatic promotion next sesaon then I think we are in for a very enjoyble few years full of promise IMO. Fair observation, AP does need time after the catastrophe of the last few years. I think that the majority of fans accept that we'll need time to steadily build. Maybe a push for promotion next season?
Nineteen Canteen Posted 23 August, 2009 Author Posted 23 August, 2009 Interview here http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...on/8216405.stm Thanks for posting that, Weston. I had another listen. To my horror, Pardew twice said "as I say"! In the interview I posted from Pearson, he didn't say it once. Wes, you are very smug and it's no surprise your biggest fan is Um Pahars, which perhaps is not surprising. Perhaps you should start taking posters opinions in the spirit they are intended instead of spending hours researching if their comments can be undermined with your minute dissection of every syllable. With our 'hopeless' start will you soon be banging on about entertainment and trying to justify another boycott?
Toomer Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I do agree, and he needs time. I still think there is inherently something wrong with this club at the moment, but I am sure that there is no-one in a better position than Pard to deal with it. On a different note, I wonder who will be the first person to have a go at you just because it is you posting 19C?[/QUOTE] No doubt it will be seen as an underhand dig at 'Boot Boy' whilst convieniently ignoring I thought Wotte was ok. I've always given my opinions as I honestly see things and without fear if they are popular or otherwise. Your OP is one that I would agree with but why do you always have to make a comments that turn threads confrontional.
um pahars Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Your OP is one that I would agree with but why do you always have to make a comments that turn threads confrontional. Toomer, I think you know the answer to that question;)
Nineteen Canteen Posted 23 August, 2009 Author Posted 23 August, 2009 Your OP is one that I would agree with but why do you always have to make a comments that turn threads confrontional. AS Dibden alluded because even if I don't make those comments a reasonable post by me will still turn confrontational because people will try to undermine me or a pick a fight based on my past views or personal issues or anything else except discuss r god forbid agree with me. Toomer, I'm not bleating or moaning about it (although the rumours about my private life is out of order IMO) and recognise that at times I may deserve it but thats the risk of posting openly and honestly. What is interesting is that I'm attacked by some overtly smug and 'knowledgeable' individuals who really shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses and who clearly need to get out more or even register with match.com.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 23 August, 2009 Author Posted 23 August, 2009 Toomer, I think you know the answer to that question;) I don't think he does Steeeve and I don't think you do either.
Wes Tender Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Wes, you are very smug and it's no surprise your biggest fan is Um Pahars, which perhaps is not surprising. Perhaps you should start taking posters opinions in the spirit they are intended instead of spending hours researching if their comments can be undermined with your minute dissection of every syllable. With our 'hopeless' start will you soon be banging on about entertainment and trying to justify another boycott? Nineteen, you made some very good points in your thread, most of which I agreed with and I said so. But you insisted that we had not had a manager for a very long time who could convey his thoughts as cogently as Pardew. I disagreed with that one point and suggested that Pearson was Pardew's equal in that respect. You claimed that Pearson probably couldn't have spoken for that long without repeating himself several times and saying "as I said", as you take that as a sure sign that a manager has nothing further to say. A bit unfortunate wasn't it that Pardew said "as I said" twice in the interview? It didn't take me hours of research to find that, as Weston kindly posted the link to the interview and it only took a couple of minutes to listen to it. Ditto, the Pearson interview only took a couple of minutes to find too. But according to you, I need to take every part of your thread post in the spirit it is intended, without any dissent at all, even if I disagree with one part of it? I doubt that I am alone in thinking that Pearson was excellent in his ability to communiciate his thoughts clearly and concisely. Why, even a very successful businessman like Mandaric said that he had interviewed many serious contenders for the management job at Leicester and had been impressed immediately with Pearson's interview . But you don't like Pearson, so you, Nineteen? Therefore you are not big enough as a man to give him any credit at all, especially if it goes against the thrust of your thread. Regarding your other points, I have great respect for Um Pahars' opinions which are usually well researched and to the point. If he is a fan of my posts, I take it as a great compliment. Needless to say, I don't much care whether you appreciate my input or not. No, I will not be complaining about the entertainment any time soon, or thinking of boycotting. As a show of faith in the new people, I had renewed my ST and will therefore be attending every home game come hell or high water. The fact that I am prepared to continue supporting the team down to the third division should tell you something. The boycott was to rid the club of Lowe and the other charlatans and it obtained the desired result eventually.
Toomer Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I don't think he does Steeeve and I don't think you do either. Oh but I do, you get off on it.
Wes Tender Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Oh but I do, you get off on it. So much so that he was posting at gone 2am the other day. And then he advises some others to get out more and maybe consider going on Match.com.

I stay up late whats the big deal, I've also posted at 5am because on some days I get up early. Seriously you have no right to be smug. I've reported that remark to the moderators. If the only way that you feel that you can score points against someone is to resort to personal insults. then I really do pity you. For your information, you don't know anything about me and it's not true anyway.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 24 August, 2009 Author Posted 24 August, 2009 I've reported that remark to the moderators. If the only way that you feel that you can score points against someone is to resort to personal insults. then I really do pity you. For your information, you don't know anything about me and it's not true anyway. Wes to be fair that is the first personal insult I have fired at you for a long time whilst you and Um have been dishing out to me regards your 'clever' innuenndo about the state of my health. Likewise you have no idea about my personal circumstances but choose to jump on the bandwagon with Um Pahars for whatever reason and not mention a few others. Both of you have been giving it out to me in spades so don't complain if you get a little flak back occassionaly. I haven't heard anything from the moderators but regardless of their actions and for the record please accept my apologies for that comment and any offence it may have caused as in hindsight it probably overstepped the mark regard good natured banter. Perhaps you can now accept that because I hold different opinions to yourself and post honestly based on how I see things that it does not make me a troll or give reason to ridicule the state of my health or personal situation. You reported one innuendo that caused you offence how many do I get levelled at me every day? For the record in the past month I have reported about 4 posts that were far more direct and damaging and you have been happy to play along with that. Would you have had the same resolve to resist the red triangle if you had been ridiculed and received damaging personal insults as I have? Hope you accept my apology in the nature it was intended and hope you tolerate my right to post without the personal attacks.
chrisobee Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 Once again a perfectly good thread becomes a slanging match, why ? I think the original post was perfectly reasonable and it's perfectly reasonable for someone to disagree as long as it is done in the right manner. My own view of this board generally is that there is far too much in fighting and it reaches the point where you really cannot be bothered to read most of what is written. There are certainly cliques on here that are easily identifiable and as a result many main board threads become something you'd expect to find on TMS. Really though it's not that hard to be polite even if you disagree with someone and it's invariably not the point that causes the problem but the way it is expressed. Resorting to personal insults ( and I'm not referring to anyone specifically ) is clearly not acceptable as any reasonable person would I'm sure agree.

As will be evident from my posts on several other threads this pretty much echoes my thoughts. Too many people expect miracles, I'll settle for a job well done over a period of 6-9 months, so far I've not been disappointed.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 I quit agree that Pearson seems to have a refreshingly strong grasp of what is wrong with our club and more importantly how to fix it. Crucially, we also seem to have real backers now - serious, sensible backers. It will take tome, poatience and effort but I have every belief we will do it. As for you, 19C, I fear sensible posts like your original post will always be lost in the great mass of pointlessly confrontational material you churn out on other people's threads. You really can't cry foul over smugness, cheap points and comments about mental disorders when you have gone to town so readily yourself on a banquet of smugness, cheap points and barbed comments about cancer. Just as those so intricately entwined in our recent history of board room failure will be able to tell you that you can't plant the seeds of failure and expect success, so you must reslise that you can't plant the seeds of derision and strife without expecting the same in return. The club is working hard to undo years of damage done through mischief and neglect and so should you.

DT Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 Yeah, Ponty, good decision to let this rantfest stay open but lock the pun thread - a highly amusing, perfectly innocent distration providing enjoyment to many. Ridiculous moderation.

Or have you forgotten that, I certainly haven't and I'm sure DW hasn't either. Of course it was not under your current pseudonym so I guess that will be your retort. Back to the OP and you make some fair comments, you often do but invariably you revert to type and throw in one of your idiosyncratic 'controversial' statements to see what rises you can get. I had to chuckle when you made your comments regarding terminology that you accuse Pearson of using and then when proved wrong by Wes Tender you resort to ridiculing him for countering your argument. You couldn't make it up you really couldn't.

You have issues with me as I supported the club's stance regarding your request for a signed shirt and that I believed McMenemy was a like a cancer in club and operated to his own agenda and not the greater good IMO. Do you write to the media everytime you hear or read the word cancer used in it's other legitimate context? I challenge anybody to find my original posts where I allegedly insulted a woman terminally ill with cancer, you won't find it, just a son who decided to take it out on me because he didn't like the fact I thought the club took approproate action. My views and language with regard to McMenemy did not insult his mother any more than they insulted my wife who had just finished her chemeotherapy at the time. Time to justify your comments (Greenridge and anyone else please take note) and back them up with the undoctored facts or buy a cat.

Time to justify your comments (Greenridge and anyone else please take note) and back them up with the undoctored facts or buy a cat. Never said you did.... But again, are you thick? I never asked for ****ing signed shirt. I had a shirt that I wanted to get signed for my mother who at that stage was so ill she could barely walk, had lost half her weight and her hair and couldn't manage the strength to get out of her chair. The club couldn't be bothered to allow her to get her shirt signed by the players/manager at Staplewood. You seem to think that would open the floodgates and everyone would want this sort of treatment. What utter rubbish. People get their stuff signed at Staplewood all the time, I just asked the club to make one woman's day by meeting a few players and getting a few photos taken. If that's too much, then **** this club and **** anyone who thinks one small act of kindness is asking too much from it. If the club can't be bothered tto do something kind for a gravely ill woman a let her get her shirt (bought and paid for) signed at Staplewood then what use was the club? It certainly had no heart then. It would have cost them nothing. Once again you have deliberately misinterpreted my words and given it your own spin. You on the other hand called me a tin rattler, insulted me on Essru's site (remember that?), tried your level best to paint me as some grief stricken weirdo trying to damage the club, a z list echo wannabe using my z list "celebrity" status to get money from the club for cancer research and were generally sneering and dismissive of my attempts to raise money for charity... I wouldn't mind if I was asking the club for anything other than a polite reply for a attempt to raise money for charity... In the meantime... Some of my favourite quotes from you about me.... "Daren Wheeler and excellent column isn't that an oxymoron whatever the connotation of column? Considering the bile the bloke has spat about this club especially with regard to his pious attempts to collect money for Cancer Research which I suspect he would not have bothered had his mother not contracted cancer herself. Believe me IMO Daren Wheeler is the last person we need to speak out on the club in an unbiased fashion. No doubt he will be hitting them with his 'charity stick' for a long time obviously so or otherwise. Just an opinion but appears the type to carry a grudge even in light of an explanation and one who strikes me as needing to be treated differently and above the normal fan to court a more favourable opinion. We need balanced assessment and IMO from what I have read from Wheeler on here that is unlikely to happen." "There is perhaps a more pertinent Jewish saying that will make a perfect summary of the whole issue: A man who gives charity in secret is greater than Moses. Its a pity Mr Wheeler chose not to follow this advice and keep his charitable work private like many, many other unsung heroes who expect nothing but give plenty in time and money." There are numerous others that can't be, for some reason, now be located on TSW. Perhaps someone has the post he made on Essru's messageboard. That one was a peach. Glad to see you haven't, or rather can't, denied your multiple personalities on here.... You are Sundance Beast, You are Flashman and you are a liar... Edited 25 August, 2009 by Daren W

And I stand by everything I said. Why because I write from experience Daren and did the charity thing after it was too late and I still support the club's stance on charitable acts be they donation or whatever. I can understand why you were upset but IMO I still think you thought as part time local sports journo you had a right above the fan on the street for the club to heed to your request and yes I was worried about you giving the club a bad press afterwards as you clearly but unjustifably felt wronged IMO. It's my opinion you hate me for Daren and that opinion does not make a bad or evil person. I just thought airing your grievances on this forum for something so emotionally charged made it difficult if not impossible for people to comment in favour of the club for fear of a verbal beating and hence my tone which I suspect you have taken an extract once the fur was flying. This was probably after your somewhat sanctimonious stance on my use of the word cancer in another legitimate context when allegedly you first brought your mother into the argument. Anyway, glad you've taken me off ignore and it couldn't have been that 'ferking' great without me afterall.
Daren W Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 And I stand by everything I said. This was probably after your somewhat sanctimonious stance on my use of the word cancer in another legitimate context when allegedly you first brought your mother into the argument. Anyway, glad you've taken me off ignore and it couldn't have been that 'ferking' great without me afterall. Again... again.... When are people going to stop droning on my offense at people using the word cancer on here? You again seem to portray me as some word nazi trying to ban people using the word cancer. The truth was that once, once, I asked one poster for a bit of perspective, that some of us have cancer in our lives and using the word cancerous to describe Lawrie McMenemy* might be a bit ott and might upset or offend some of us. That resulted in numerous posters, of which you were the ring leader, painting me as some word facist, telling you what words to use. A slight over exageration. You then again were the chief ringleader in twisting my comments about raising money for cancer research and getting a day out for my mum. Only on this messageboard could doing something for charity be seen a bad thing and someone be slagged off and ridiculed for trying to do so. It was never the refusal of the club to help that annoyed me, more the the fact that the club couldn't be arsed to reply. Not even a stock, photocopied letter... not a dicky bird. Are you telling me that someone asking for "help" in raising money for charity doesn't merit a reply??? Even as a "part time local sports journo" i would expect the club to give even a stock photocopied reply to anyone who is dedicating their time to rasiing money for charity. Quite frankly I think it's cheap and thoughtless on the clubs behalf. But again I probably wouldn't have been annoyed had the only piece of correspondence I got not been a season ticket renewal form. That to me said, "Well Mr Wheeler, we don't give a stuff about helping with charity and we really aren't bothered about doing one nice thing for your gravely ill mother... but is there any chance yo can pay for all your games in one go?" You can imagine my answer. I didn't renew and went game by game. Maybe I'm asking too much but the club I supported was the heartbeat of the community and regularly did work for charity. The club I supported wouldn't view it as a chore to allow a ill, old woman ten minutes of it's time.... just to put a smile on her face. You on the other hand seem to think small acts of kindness are somehow asking too much from the club. I think it's to be expected from an obvious post Euro 96 newbie like yourself who only discovered football when Sky started broadcasting it. Football on tv meant you didn't have to actually go to it to have an opinion on it. For people like you going to watch a game is like a trip to the cinema. Sit down. Watch. Leave. The thought of your local cinema helping a loyal patron? Nil. That explains your stance... For your information, the club could actually help organise something for my mum. It was only from the intervention of Dave Ford that something was organised but by that time she was far too ill to go. That's Dave Ford. The much maligned (by some on here) member of the Ted Bates trust who saw what I was saying, made a few calls and got something done... and I for one will not forget the fact that he did so. But it does show that it can be done. I personally don't want to be involved with a club that thinks that small acts of kindness are somehow too much. Your biggest insult was that somehow I wouldn't be invoved in any of this if it wasn't for my mum and that somehow as a "local journo" I thought I had some right to something... What a ****ing insult you complete ****. What a sick, sad little man you are. Your comments were the main reason I decided not to renew my column this season past, that and the lack of time. Your barbed comments about my motives also stopped me raising money for cancer research. When my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer I raised £10,000 for cancer research, now the thought of raising money just makes me feel almost ill, as if somehow people think I'm in the wrong and you're right. Congratulations, you've managed to make raising money for charity seem selfish. For most, dealing with cancer has three stages. Denial. Anger. Acceptance. For me, my way of dealing with it was to come out fighting and help someone else... I never realised that made me selfish... You're wrong and the more you protest the more ridulous you look. You judge everyone by your own self, self centred, ugly standards. You obviously can't believe that people do things for other people, for non selfish reasons. You seem to think my motives are selfish. My mum has cancer. Money raised for Cancer Research won't help her, she has it and one day it will kill her. You seem to too dim or too selfish to realise that.... And you wonder why I despise you. I have told you countless times, my reasons and my motives and yet you consistantly ignore the truth and continually peddle your pack of lies as to why I had a beef with the club and why I tried to raise money for charity. When you continaully ignore the truth and peddle your own agenda then that makes you a liar. You're back on ignore. The only reason I took you off was that someone mentioned what you'd posted. Life is sooo much better without you in it... * Lawrie McMenemy: Our most successful ever manager.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 26 August, 2009 Author Posted 26 August, 2009 I think the length and tone of the response suggests that I am not the liar you make me out to be and that you have tried to defend and steam roll your personal agenda through this forum and I am just the idiot who sympathetic to your situation didn't agree with your approach. Whats the chances of others contacting the club and kicking up a stink for similar requests now a precedent has been set. Somewhere someone is going to be disappointed and the merry go round will start again. I have not made you feel selfish about collecting for charity and remember your indignation when your wish to collect outside SMS was refused? Who played the selfish / moral outrage card then? I won't go on as you have me on 'ignore' but hopefully your post watchers will let you know as the next time you are doing a fund raising event for cancer then please let me know as I would like to make a donation and having supported my wife in 3 5k 'Tesco' runs this year I would welcome the opportunity to support your efforts.

Wow... It's like you didn't pay one jot of attention to my post. "Kicking up a stink" "steam roll your personal agenda" Unbelievable... Line drawn under. Ignore function re-activated... and relax....

Don't forget please let me know when you are doing a sponsored event as I would like to donate through justgiving.com or however you collect the sponsorship. I think our next one is the Bournemouth 10k parade run in October, I say I think as we may have to drop out because of another commitment tbc. Anyway, look forward to sponsoring you and no you don't need to mention it.
Wes Tender Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 Surely long overdue for closure, this thread, unless it is to be kept open in perpetuity so long as Alan Pardew is manager, so that comments can be added after every match. Opinions on what AP said after the match have surely all been expressed and now all we have is people responding to the antagonism of the site's chief wind-up merchant.

I take it Wes you didn't take my apology the other day in the spirit it was intended? I agree that DW should take this via the pm but it doesn't help when posters accuse me of things I haven't done and therefore need to defend myself.
Seany S Posted 26 August, 2009 Posted 26 August, 2009 I agree with the original post. It is refreshing hearing a manager speak honestly about the situation. Compare to a few years ago, when Bagpuss threw a load of youngsters into the team, we were dismal at Mansfield, and then he came out and trashed the players and the fans. Mind you, I have no idea why I am comparing that scrotal sack with eyes to Pardew.
