saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Tea on day 4. Australia 265-5. 5 wickets needed to regain the ashes!
bungle Posted 23 August, 2009 Author Posted 23 August, 2009 I see we've reached the decisve day of the Ashes today. Australia throwing it all away.
St Landrew Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Not that I'm hugely interested nowadays, but fwiw, if it was any country other than Australia, England were facing, I would expect home cricket fans to be chilling the champagne and sparkling wine. It not over yet.
Leicestersaint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I think the only real issue is whether we can finish it off today - which we should - with showers forecast for tomorrow.
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Could do with a few more quick ones to calm the nerves again. Once we get down to the tail will i only start feeling comfortable that we will do this. Just had a look at the weather forecast for tomorrow, doesn't look too good.
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Really need to get Hussey out ASAP. Can't see this ending today the way its going at the moment.
Crab Lungs Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Gah, 316-5. I was no-no-no-no'ing at Strauss when he motioned for the new ball... Damn, if it ****es dowm tomorrow we're really in trouble...
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 According to this no rain tomorrow but plenty of cloud cover: http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=ashes;page=2;type=Sport;place=The+Ashes+Fifth+Test;sess=#forecast Even so, could really do with a couple tonight if this is going to go in to tomorrow.
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Wicket at last! Haddin gone. Hopefully the breakthrough England need.
Um Bongo Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 siddle gone, two to go! two in two! Harmy on a hattrick, one to win!
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Clark for a duck! Harmi on a hatrick & 1 wicket from regaining the ashes! woooooo
sad saints fan Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 why dont the aussies just give up.They just never know when they are beat
forever a red and white Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 where will the parade be, i.e. where should i get the train to, to watch the team on the bus
sad saints fan Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Having said that ,that is exactly the reason it is so good to beat them because you have to fight all the way
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 where will the parade be, i.e. where should i get the train to, to watch the team on the bus David Gower said earlier there was something planned for celebrations at the ground but no trafalgar square again.
sad saints fan Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 not got sky so i cant watch but it sounded good on tsm.Now i need to call my cousin in aus and take the ****.
Thedelldays Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 The end showed what a great thing the Ashes is.. as soon as it was over..Ponting led his team back on the pitch to congratulate the England players.. Great game
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I remember discussing the ashes back after we'd lost the series in the West Indies in Feb, didn't think we had a chance & me & all my mates were predicting 4-1's...etc to Australia. Glad to say England proved us wrong, well done lads!
saints_is_the_south Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Stuart Broad - MOTM Andrew Strauss - England's player of the series Michael Clarke - Australia's player of the series Can't argue with any of that
chrisobee Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 What a thrilling match and a great series, that's what I call REAL cricket ! Great stuff England but credit to the Aussies and Ponting for making us sweat and genuine sportmanship at the end.
dubai_phil Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Fantastic, the pitch was dodgy but it produced great cricket and tension, thank God the Aussies batted like puppets in the first innings. That whole last hour was just wonderful to sit and watch... And was I the only one to notice that Freddie wasn't seen on tv swigging champers or even holding one? And Colly pretending to drop the Urn... Tear in the eye stuff, marvellous to watch, hoped for but so unexpected after Headingley
Smirking_Saint Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 I see we have reached the decisive day of the ashes......... AND WE WON
Iowsaintsfan Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Fantastic and i can only think of one better sight of this ashes series than Strauss lifting that little urn........................
dubai_phil Posted 23 August, 2009 Posted 23 August, 2009 Fantastic and i can only think of one better sight of this ashes series than Strauss lifting that little urn........................ Priceless - Ponting spitting blood at the state of the pitch & his decision to leave out Hauritz! AV IT as the sign kept saying

And Colly pretending to drop the Urn... Tear in the eye stuff, marvellous to watch, hoped for but so unexpected after Headingley Even an eternal optimist like me really did not think we would win before the match but in a strange way I was glad we were 8 down on the 1st day as the pitch was very dodgy indeed. That gave me hope we might just pull it off and after day 1 a result was almost inevitable. The decision not to play Hauritz was well and truly an error on the part of Australia. Anyway what is the point of playing at home if you don't take advantage of it !
Iowsaintsfan Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 I was there yesterday.. it was brilliant. you got any pics Hatch?
skintsaint Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 the reaction to the Aussies on my Facebook is amusing...one even says "he feels like knifing every pom he can find" Aussies are always good losers!!
saintwarwick Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 Stuart Broad - MOTM Andrew Strauss - England's player of the series Michael Clarke - Australia's player of the series Can't argue with any of that Agreed correct choices on all accounts
saintwarwick Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 I was there yesterday.. it was brilliant. I bet it was, I had to make do with second best on Sky and that was brill to watch.
dubai_phil Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 Here's an interesting one http://blogs.cricinfo.com/andyzaltzman/archives/2009/08/a_frisky_evening_with_statsgur.php ........England averaged 6.49 runs per wicket less than Australia in this series, but still won. This is the biggest runs-per-wicket deficit ever overcome to win a Test series. In the entire history of cricket, the human race and the universe put together. Here endeth the stat.
Jimmy_D Posted 24 August, 2009 Posted 24 August, 2009 I had to miss the last two hours yesterday due to a birthday, was absolutely gutted delighted we won though

Saint Bones Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 48 + hours later.. I still feel like ****e. Depressed. Argh.... A good series and a great way for freddie to bow out Well done England. I felt the whole series was played in pretty good spirit with some good cricket to watch. Now back to sulking.
Hatch Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 48 + hours later.. I'm still hungover, feel terrible. They wouldn't even let me in the Queen Anne, and they let anyone in there.
Saint Bones Posted 25 August, 2009 Posted 25 August, 2009 I'm still hungover, feel terrible. They wouldn't even let me in the Queen Anne, and they let anyone in there. You still have 2 years of Celebrating to do.
