MorningtonCrescent Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 The stands at St. Mary's don't move, they are inanimate. Particularly the Kingsland. HTH Now THAT made me LoL Keep 'em as they are. Lawrie Mac should be recognised though as Lowe refused to use his name on any of the suites. Not sure what would be most appropriate, but he should have something done to note his contribution to our halcyon days.
eurosaint Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 If (when?) we get back to the Premier League what are the odds of St Marys being renamed the ' Markus Liebherr Stadium' ????????
The Fat Controller Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 I would like to see the following The Kingsland stand called The Alan Ball Stand The Northam called The Bobby Stokes Stand The Itchen called The McMenemy Stand The Chapel called The Ron Davies Stand In fairness Terry Paine, Matt Le Tiss and Co have suites in their name likewise with Ted Bates having a statue
Third Division South Days Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 No problem with the stands being renamed after Saints legends but surely they should become legends whilst playing at SMS. The dell greats are already well represented within the stadium. Lets leave something for the future to decide.
saint-ross Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 My suggestion Kingsland = Matt Le Tissier Chapel = Bobby Stokes Itchen = Ted Bates Northam = Rupert Lowe I'd **** myself laughing..... Nearly choked on my tea!
ottery st mary Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 Our new Catering Co. or Cafe/Restaurant should be named after that Old Warhorse Nineteen Canteen.
Scudamore Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 get them sponsored. Extra money for the club, and makes no difference to me what they are called. Maybe Pinnacle would be interested in sponsoring one...

bungle Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 get them sponsored. Extra money for the club, and makes no difference to me what they are called. In many ways I agree. It isn't even as if these new plastic bowl grounds have stands with any individual character, anyway. Although we should be a bit more careful than in the States, where a recent NASCAR race was called the "Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen" - bit of a mouthful! londonsaint1604 Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 I think it's better having them named after the corresponding areas of the city.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 I think it's better having them named after the corresponding areas of the city. And what about us bumpkins that come over from the Waterside every week, shouldn't we get some recognition?

Charlie Wayman Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 I hope I am not alone in LIKING the names of the stands; 'The Northam' not only has a fearful ring to it but gives you at a stroke the geographic orientation of the stadium which is otherwise difficult to work out when you are sitting inside. Itchen by the river, Chapel and Kingsland are class! What's the point of Change for Change's sake? The names of the stands will stand the test of time and still be relevant in 100 years. Naming them after old players is not only naff but inappropriate, by 2025 nobody supporting the Saints - most not yet born - will have ever heard of them. This is one idea for the can. krissyboy31 Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 Change the Itchen Stand to the Woolston Stand!!! Itchen is only a pseudo district and really part of greater Woolston!!!!

londonsaint1604 Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 And what about us bumpkins that come over from the Waterside every week, shouldn't we get some recognition? We could always name the corners. Kingsland/Chapel faces your way! Sort of. Itchen by the river, Chapel and Kingsland are class! I agree actually the current names have a good ring to them. Also it wouldn't sounds that good singing "we're the ted bates, we're the ted bates, we're the ted bates over 'ere"

Toadhall Saint Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 No. The stands are named logicaly. Chapel end facing the Chapel area of the City, the Northam facing the Northam district etc etc. It makes sense. Naming everything that moves after old players is naff. What he said. SaintRobbie Posted 20 August, 2009 Share Posted 20 August, 2009 At saint marys do you think it would be an good idear to change a few things. Like the stand names. Have Stands named after ledgends to us. Matt Le tiss and Ted bates ect. Post what you think on this. No - we should build a statue of Le Tiss, with LOYALTY on it next to the players entrance. Stands should stay the same.
